Corpus was still scared witless of his first step into the world of Alchemy and it’s blazingly mysterious arts and customs that he was initiated into just two weeks ago. Uncle Marthos called for the child to return to his lessons last evening as Corpus sat down for supper after the chime of the Watchtower rang.

At that time Corpus wasn’t as scared of his introduction to Alchemy as he was now. As he sat hovering just inches from the other side of the door that barred the drawing room his Uncle was waiting for him in. He could feel the vibrations of the alchemical energies on the other side of the door. He grew more accustomed to feeling that accursed vibration of Djed but that didn’t mean he enjoyed it.

Corpus didn’t knock on the door this time, not like he did two weeks ago. No, this time he pushed through the door as if he knew what he was getting into. Trying his damnedest to hide the fear that was growing in him like a beast of its own accord. And hiding fear that large was a task, something Corpus was probably failing horribly at.

Today though, sitting on the small stand was the same ring, this time though the indents were left empty and there sat several items near it. One was a bowl of coarse salt -- the kind Corpus used graciously on his foods during mealtimes, another was a bowl of coarse sand -- something Corpus would have imagined being seen on a beach or a lakefront, and the last item was another bowl containing an item that Corpus could only describe as coarsely crushed stone.

“Uncle, what is that third bowl?” Having had his lecture from his last practical lesson Corpus couldn’t possibly imagine what he was having to create.

“You didn’t worry about what the contains of the third bowl is. That’s for the lecture after the practical aspect of today’s lesson. Now that you are here, we can begin.” And that was when Corpus’ Uncle Marthos made a fluid and graceful attempt of bring out the dagger. All the nine-year-old boy saw was the flashback from two weeks ago of his sole-guardian and provider stabbing into his fingertip with the blade. A shiver ran down his spine as the dagger was placed on the other side of the ring away from the bowls.

“Now, begin by placing the items on their proper places around and in the ring. I will not tell you where anything goes I think you can figure that out on your own.”

Corpus nodded and with a gulp looked puzzled at the items. Stepping up closer to the items the boy had to actually be near the items and getting a better look before he made his decisions as to where they went.

It was at this close examination that he saw the items in better perspective, the salt wasn’t perfectly white, but had a slight yellowish tint. The sand was a tad darker than he first saw it as. Really though it was the third bowl of materials that baffled him. The boy’s eyes saw that whatever it was, it was basically pure-white with a slight gray to it.

What am I looking at that needs to be added or subtracted from a third item?

"It was bone, I know that now, Uncle. I know that now... But you wouldn't give me that information. For years I knew what that mystery item was." Corpus smirked wildly and looked at the ring hanging loosely on his right hand, the bony digit running through the alchemical metal band barely holding it in place.

His eyes started to cloud back over in reminscing fashion, his gaze fading inwardly into his past. So far back into his past that the Nuit's body went still, hand resting neatly on the windowsill.

There was nothing...
OOC: Such a long time to respond in this Solo. >.<

There was nothing... Nothing that the poor child could even see that would possibly connect the three items before him.

"Uncle, there is no connection beyond the coarseness of the grinding. I will not do something as foolish as what you have placed before me. Salt and sand have nothing beyond their names to correspond to one another, nothing in their makeup could possibly remove or add to the item in the middle. Unless the third is shale rock, which I highly doubt. You are trying to set me up to look foolish."

The boy's rant ended with a thawk across his face and a look of shock in place of his look of impossibility.

"Corpus, you are looking at the objects before you and all you see is color connections? Bah! You sicken me child." His uncle snarled loudly and placed the three items in the ring as followed [from Fount, Center, Filter]: Sand, Bone, Salt. "There! Now charge and finish the process!"

The boy nodded and pricked his finger. The blood welled up slowly before he pressed it against the metallic ring. Closing his eyes tightly as the bloody finger pressed tight against the ring's smooth, curved edge Corpus could feel the sickening swirling and pulling sensation start once more in his chest and stomach, it was the same feeling as before, but this time even more intense. His stomach churned, whatever he ate earlier in the day was threatening to erupt. Luckily though that didn't occur and he continued to charge and drain himself of Djed.

Finally Corpus felt the swirling tug in his chest and fingertips wane, but the tugging in the ring continued. With a final tug he managed to release himself from the ring's hungry grasp and watched as his first solo-attempt at alchemy went under way. Sparks and sputtering flashes from around the ring amazed his, but it was the change of the bone inside that mesmorised him.

"The beauty of the resulting shrivelled mound of bone fragments... I do wonder what you did with them. I never did see them again afterwards."

Corpus frowned and shook his head a little. The resulting bowls, the Nuit could recall, continued sand that held no difference and the salt was a fast dissolving mush. The slat having sucked the small amount of water from the bone's interior that was left. The addition of the extra carbon from the sand immediately mummified the bone fragments, turning them into a pile of dried up brittle chips.

Corpus could even remember the horrid exhaustion afterwards as his uncle shoved him out of the room and back into the hallway, no word about lecture or anything. Just 'Go rest.'

"Such a pity uncle, you should've went and became immortal then you would still be my teacher. Foolish man."

XP Award!

Name:Corpus Aeternum
XP Award:
  • Alchemy- 2
Lore:
  • Transmutation: Mummifying Bone
  • Remembering the Second Lesson
Notes:

The process of Alchemy doesn’t use personal Djed. It uses the Djed of the world. You prick the finger to gain a connection to the circle, as in all world magics, and with your will alone you command the djed of the items within the circle to move. It a conscious effort, conscious process, in other words the Djed doesn’t automatically begin swirling around as the blood connection is made. It takes effort and concentration to begin and maintain the circuit. I really do wish you would go more in depth with the process at hand :) I know you can do it, and you are off to a great start. What a promising Alchemy Career you will have.

Nice thread and a nice little insight to your character. I look forward to reading more.

Any questions or concerns about the rewards gained please send a PM :)

12 hour shifts have started, and Im working 6-7 days a week mandatory overtime. My replies will be slow until I can adjust to this new groove.
