[Paragon's Scrapbook] The Ancient's Legacy

Postby Kaeson Dakano on July 29th, 2012, 3:37 pm

I watched it -- it was amazing. Although, I don't really remember the Beijing opening ceremonies apart from that whole thing with the little singing girl, so I'm just going to go ahead and say the London opening ceremony was the best I've seen. Haha.

Mostly because J.K. Rowling read aloud. And it was like I was there. And I may or may not have screamed like a little girl at a Justin Bieber/One Direction concert. Maybe.

Also, I really liked the part with Rowan Atkinson. He's pretty awesome.

I did enjoy the opening ceremony. I didn't catch it until later though for work related reasons. But I have to say it wasn't my favorite.

My absolute hands down never will be topped favorite was Utah's Opening Ceremony. There was just something so incredibly magical about the production done by the same designer as The Lion King musical with all the animals and the heavily influenced native american theme.

[Paragon's Scrapbook] The Ancient's Legacy

Postby Montaine on July 29th, 2012, 5:01 pm

Okay, so I don't like sports, the Olympics has been pretty much a bother to me and little else, but I figured hey, Paragon's pretty cool, maybe I'll check it out?

An hour later and I'm annoyed that I don't have time to watch the rest right now. It was amazing, so many references to British history and culture, so many tiny little blink and you'll miss them things. I was half expecting it to be a fiasco, but I happily admit I was wrong. I particularly loved earlier on, when the four rings appeared in the sky and I was 'Hey, why only four?' and then the fifth rose from the Industrial Revolution and I genuinely laughed out loud.

Also, Kenneth Branagh quoting Shakespeare as Isambard Kingdom Brunel, most British thing ever?

And props to Boyle for including Tim Berners-Lee. I struggle to think of a more important Brit in recent times.

I haven't seen anything to do with the Olympics at all, but I heard from multiple people here that the opening ceremonies were absolutely terrible. I might have to find someplace to watch them now, because after reading this I now have heard two completely differing opinions.

Anyone know where I can watch them at?

I can't find the opening anywhere as well, though I've heard it was pretty cool. So far, the only part I've seen is the one with Rowan Atkinson... and I loved it. :P

Hm, okay so I watched the rest...

Yeah, only the first hour and ten or so is worth watching in my opinion. I know the march of nations is important and all, but it's not interesting.

There was actually a photo I saw on reddit that depicted the opening Olympics as a scene in Mordor. It made me lol pretty hard. Hopefully I can find it again.

I think the Youtube stuff has been banned. BBC Iplayer has it, but I don't think Americans can view that. Maybe NBC has it recorded from their website?

@Jules: I don't know how people can say it was terrible. I thought it captured Britain pretty well, and I found parts of it very epic, especially the change from green to an industrial world. When those forged Olympic rings began to move together I shivered a little. Also, everyone should remember we're running on a MUCH lower budget than every other opening ceremony.

@Jen: Awesome, glad you liked. Sounds like I should go watch the Utah Ceremony sometime :)

[Paragon's Scrapbook] The Ancient's Legacy

Sadly I was on my way back to Bristol from London when the ceremonies was on (yes I practically suck because I hast no tix but the city was a madhouse. Streets, trains and buses all messed up so I nearly missed the bus back to Bristol :P)

Worst part was when I got back I only got to see the march on livestream and I missed my country T.T Hope I'll have the time to rewatch it soon. If you're in the UK the bbc site is your best bet but I heard every other country has another provider to stream it for you. Whether it is free or not I have no idea.

But I have to say that I pretty much like the Chinese one when I saw it. The GB one has an entirely different personality, from what I heard tons of celebs like the new Bond and Mr. Bean so you can't really compare the two countries too much.

Anyway tomorrow is probably me watching all the fencing events (mwahahaha) and maybe badminton even if my country has no hope for it this year :( (and its the only event we actually have a shot) If I have the time I'll watch gymnastics, running and weight lifting too XD

P.S. you suck Montaine because the march is like that awesome fashion show you can only see once every 4 years XD
