oocA thousand apologies for taking over two weeks to respond. Life has been hectic to say the least : )

Asha smiled broadly at Sahashkalila’s words and turned to lead her out the door. Asha strolled to a patch of bushes a scant twenty feet from the entrance of the Injury Ward. Pushing aside some brambles and budding branches, Asha found what she was had been searching for. In the center of the brushy patch was what seemed like clover, but Asha knew better. Her mother had loved these little plants, and made sure her daughter knew them well. A clump of slender stalks rose up a few inches above the ground, each stalk crowed with three green heart-shaped leaves. Normally small white flowers would be just beginning to blossom but the prolonged cold weather had held back its growth. Asha grasped the clump of plants firmly at their base and pulled up slowly, trying to pull up as much of the root system as possible. She gave the plants a good shake to loosen dirt from the roots before turning to her veiled acquaintance.

“This is called bloodwood sorrel. They look similar to clover, and during the warmer times they bear little white flowers. Bloodwood sorrel is very common in Taldera, particularly around the bloodwoods as you might imagine. They grow like weeds if truth be told. The leaves are edible but I wouldn’t recommend eating them in huge quantities, they can be toxic in large amounts. But if you should ever lose your way and need some food, they will get you through. If you make a decoction of the entire plant you can use it as a wash for rheumatism. A long soak in the decoction ought to ease rheumatic pains. A poultice of the leaves will reduce swelling or draw out the sickness in sores and boils. I thought you might find it useful. I had imagined Jorg would have shown it to you…. but… well…. it’s hard to depend on him to show newcomers important plant life.” Asha shrugged and held the handful of plants out to Sahashkalila, offering the small plants and the knowledge of it in return for her help. Asha knew she hadn’t been terribly difficult, but it took a gifted healer to calm her fear of blood. It would not have been the first she had passed out while being administered to and Sahaskalila’s ability to keep her mind occupied and gently deal with her little cut had made an impression on Asha. It was always important to her to repay kindness with kindness, even if it was only a little plant.

It's Only a Flesh Wound (Sahashkalila)

Kalila followed her friend outside curiously, wondering what exactly Asha wanted to show her. Kalila always appreciated knowledge, especially when it was about medicinal plants. Asha didn't lead her far from the injury ward and stopped in front of some underbrush, moving it aside to show her what lay underneath. Kalila came closer to inspect the small plant, opening her small notebook and picking up her pencil as Asha pulled the plant up from the ground.

She then began to make a quick sketch of the plant, noting where it had come from and the name as well. She could not recall ever having seen this plant in Eyktol before, and quickly jotted down what Asha was saying, making a mental note to study this plant some more when she had the time. She then closed the little notebook and put it back in her pocket, reaching out to take the plant that Asha offered. "Thiss iss a wonderful gift Assha, thank you,"she said with a smile, turning the plant over in her hands to see little red veins throughout the tubers. She was right about Jorg not showing her all of the necessary things that she needed to know about this reason, which is why Kalila had taken to carrying around the little notebook. One never knew when Jorg was in a teaching mood.

"I appreciate what you have done, it will be mosst helpful to me with other patientss. Jorg doess what he can, but I alwayss appreciate more knowledge when it iss freely given,"she said with a knowing smile, understanding what Asha was getting at. "I other patientss to attend to my friend, but do not hessitate to come back to the ward. I can alwayss sspare the time to talk to a friend."

oocIt is alright! My job had been crazy as well so it is no problem. :) Perhaps we can finish this up? I would like to consider this as a social/job thread for Kali.

It's Only a Flesh Wound (Sahashkalila)

Asha smiled as Kalila took the plant. She was glad her new acquaintance appreciated the gift. It delighted her that she cared enough about the knowledge Asha had imparted to make notations. It seemed impressive to Asha that a mostly bald creature could be as receptive to knowledge as a well-furred creature like herself. Asha kept her innocently ethnocentric feelings to herself and simply continued to smile.

“You are most welcome. I appreciated your time and company Sahashkalila, you are a human worth knowing. I wish you well in your endeavors at the ward today.” Asha gave the girl a large grin before turning. She strode a few paces towards the longhouse before she briefly twisted her shoulders to wave a final farewell to her healer friend. Turning back to face her destination, she continued on. What had started out as a rough afternoon had progressed into something surprisingly pleasant, Asha realized. It wasn’t often that a bout with her phobia ended in anything remotely positive, so she appreciated it all the more.
