SERGEI
Name: Sergei Race: Human Age: 26 Birthday: Spring 12, 486
Physical Description Sergei is tall, around 6’3”, with an athletic build. He has dark hair which he lets grow out until it gets to bothering him and then he cuts it short again. Sometimes he wears a trim beard and mustache, when he gets lazy and doesn’t feel like shaving. His dark eyes usually have a very intense look and he is somber and doesn’t smile a lot.
Character Concept No man lasts long in a vicious gang of thugs, criminals and murderers by being a spineless wimp. It takes a bit of brains and a lot of immorality to survive, and Sergei has plenty of both. Since arriving in Sunberth, about ten years ago, Sergei has basically become a social predator who has charmed, manipulated and ruthlessly plowed his way through life, leaving a broad trail of broken hearts, shattered expectations and empty coffers. Completely lacking in conscience and feelings for others, he selfishly takes what he wants and does as he pleases, without the slightest sense of guilt or regret. This isn’t to say that he comes off as some freakish monster. His good looks are disarming, to the unwary. To the men he works with, he is cool, self-assured, and brazen - a huge risk taker, and quite good at what he does.
Sergei views others as little more than objects to be used for his own gratification. The weak and the vulnerable—whom he mocks, rather than pities—are favorite targets of his ruthless whims. Coupled with a stunning lack of concern for the devastating effects his actions have on others, he has successfully cheated, bilked, defrauded, conned and manipulated people without the slightest compunction. He holds a deeply ingrained belief that the world is made up of "givers and takers," predators and prey, and that he would be a fool not to exploit the weaknesses of others. Obligations and commitments mean nothing to Sergei. Any promises he makes are written on the wind. He has no commitment to anyone other than himself.
It’s very rare for Sergei to "blow his stack", but when he does, he knows exactly what he is doing. It’s as if he takes his anger out, wields it like a hammer, and then coolly puts it away again. His “rage” is ice cold and calculated. He is, in short, emotionally bankrupt and feels nothing on any deep, sincere level. This void that seems to exist in his emotional make up is somewhat filled by his compulsion to live in the fast lane or "on the edge," where the action is, always seeking the next big thrill. He has an acute inability to tolerate routine or monotony and is easily bored, and relishes opportunities to mix things up and cause a bit of a stir. He has no inhibitions about physically injuring others - violence and threats are handy tools to be used when he is angered, defied or frustrated, and he gives little thought to the pain and humiliation he may cause his victims. Like his other emotions, Sergei’s violence is callous and instrumental—used to satisfy a simple need, or to obtain something he wants—and his reaction will be one of indifference, a sense of power, pleasure, or smug satisfaction rather than regret at the damage done. Certainly nothing to lose any sleep over
Character History Born a slave in Ravok, Sergei was sold at a young age to a traveling merchant-trader. He worked for many years tending to the horses and doing any and all sorts of general labor, traveling about Sylira with his master’s caravan. As he grew to a big, muscular teenager, he was also put to work as a guard, and taught to use a sword, knives, daggers. When he was around sixteen, the caravan was attacked by a band of thieves that was well armed and killed most of the merchant’s men, and the merchant himself. Sergei was left for dead but he survived and was able to make his way to the closest city, Sunberth. He chose not to reveal to anyone that he was a slave, and ended up becoming a criminal. Eventually, he became associated with the Night Eyes, and worked for them doing many shady things, usually involving murder and violence. He became quite hardened and cold and is known for his merciless attitude.
