Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

A sunset is not always for the loner

Spring Day 57, 512

It was late. Very late. Daemon should probably not be here. He didn't actually know where he were. But if he looked down, the big waterfall var roaming beneath him. He yawned and his mouth was full of his big teeth. As a white tiger it was to easy to be relaxed. He squintered his eyes and looked at the horizont. The sun was not far from going down. It had been a long time since he actually had seen a sunset. Or actually made time to see it. He streched his fierce white and black striped body and lay down on the short grass.
Daemon felt totally relaxed, and he was really proud that he had found a lonely spot. He felt like there were people everywhere in this city, so hard for him to be alone. A sudden movement in the grass near him made him prick his ears and the change to his body was instant. He was alert and all senses were sharpened. He turned his ears towards the sound and a vulgar look came upon his brigt blue eyes when he spotted the little mouse. It hadn't even seen him yet.
Without a noise he slowly changed his position for hunting, being ready to jump at the mouse. His hole body trembled with eager and the mouse spotted him. Daemon jumped after it, wildly chasing it, but the mouse was the fastest.
Anooyed he went back to his former grassly spot and was rather grumpy. Instead of having a dinner, he had to sit here and see the sunset with a rather empty stomach.
Disappointed he let our a majestic roar.

A sunset is not always for the loner

This was one of Calyras favorite places. The top of the waterfall. She loved the sights from here, and there was always plenty to hunt. There she was lying, in the long grass, looking at the sunset and listening if anything worth a hunt was moving around those parts. Her ears flickered forth and back while she looked around. Nothing. It was a quiet sunset. She was happy to get away from the city. It was far too noisy for her taste. She rolled around in the fresh grass and yawned. The sunset was not her thing. It always made her so sleepy.
Suddenly she heard rustle in the dryer grass, a little further away. She rolled back on her feet and took a hunting position. It was a mouse. Calyra jumped at it, with a high jump. The mouse was fast. Too fast. Calyra didn't get a good catch on it, and she had to let the little, grey mouse go. She sighed and growled. "These mice always get away." She said out loud in her feline language. She backed up and stood watching the sunset. It sure was a beautiful sight.
She laid down and closed her eyes, now relaxing to just be there and now. She was just about to fall asleep, then she heard the loud roar. She looked around and was aware. Where did it come from?

Daemon was still a bit grumpy and therefor he didn't hear what was siad, but his excellent hearing did hear something. It wasn't a common tongue. It was. Feline? Excited he rose up on his feets and looked around. He couldn't see anything at first so he let out another big roar. This time a more calling roar.
He put his head high in the air and breathed heavely. He could smell something. His playfull character pushed him to investigate.

Daemon started walking towards the smell. Slowly, as he didn't wanted to scare the other. Suddenly he spotted something brown in the grass. A bigger cat. He stopped. He was behind her. It was a girl, no doubt about it. He tilted his head a bit and looked at the funny shaped ears. Was that hair at the top of the ears? Curious he put out a small growl and sat down. This was no threat, or was it? Either way, he was too lazy to do anything about it right now. Although he could feel a small breeze going up his back. At least his paws were bigger than hers.

As his bright blue eyes inspected her carefully he made his body language less threatening and more friendly. He couldn't resist himself and with a huge breath he let out a big fierce roar!

Calyra jumped high up in the air, surprised and a little scared of the sudden roar. As quick as she landed and turned around, she stared at the cub. She looked at him up and down and tilted her head sideways. She wasn't sure if she could trust the young one. "Hello?" She asked with a unsure voice. She sat down, still a little aware of the cub. Her tail was all fluffed, because of the surprise roar.

She blinked her eyes, to show the younger that she was not a dangerous feline. Still she looked at the cub interested. It was slightly smaller than her, but it was way more fluffy than she'd ever be. It had bright blue eyes. And it had big paws. And round ears. She hadn't seen anything like him before. She flickered her ears back and forth, like she had been used to. "Who are you?" She asked, carefully. She didn't want to scare the little one away. She stared at the young cub with her big, glossy grey and blue eyes.

Daemon grinned as the caracal jumped in the air. He was very amused and his eyes went wide when he saw her tail go all fluffy. That looked so funny! As a playful cub he like that sort of things. She was definately no threat to him, he could clearly see that now. But she wasn't a caracal. Was she? She seemed. A bit different. It suddenly occured to him, that she might be a Kelvic too.
Otherwise she would have reacted differently. At least that was what he thought. He had never seen a caracal before in his life, and he didn't even know that it was called a caracal.
He looked at the adult feline. It was bigger than he was. He was always the small one! But not for long. He would be beigger than her when he was an adult. He was sure of it.
As the caracal flickered its ears, Daemon became aware of the question. She talked to him. Although her hole body language said that she was a bit frigthened. He lay down on the grass and yawned, showing his intimedating bite. But then he chewing a little to show her, that he was friendly.

" Im Daemon. Who are you? Are you Kelvic? You seem different. What animal are you? I have never seen this before?" He paused and then continued.
" How old are you? Why do you have hair at the top of your ears? You look funny!" He stopped with a grin, and rolled around in his back, and looked at Calyra upsidedown. She even looked funny this way.

Calyra smiled at the cub and laid down. She was aware that the cub was no threat. She wondered how young the cub was, asking so much questions in such a little time. "My name is Calyra. I'm an caracal. And you were correct in the part that I'm an Kelvic. I come from Eyktol. It's really warm there, and that's why i got such a short fur. The fur on my ears is just normal, useless tufts. I was born two years ago. And I think i should know something about a fellow like you, too. Calyra looked at the tiger cub, puzzled. The cub couldn't be old. That she was sure of. And he sure wasn't a threat. Now she was completely and utterly sure the cub was just young and playful. "So what about you? It's really puzzling me that how old you are."

She looked at the cub that was upside down. The bright blue eyes were stunning, indeed. She remembered her mother had the same colored eyes as that. Not as blue, of course. She flickered her ears again, and sneezed. She was actually kind of happy to have someone to talk to, after she lost her real parents. And of course, for her it was really difficult to talk to people. A cold breeze from north ruffled her fur and she took a deep breath. The summer season was coming. She loved the summer. She snapped out of her thoughts and looked back at the little tiger.

A sunset is not always for the loner

Daemon rolled around on his tubby and sighed. It was hot here. He was interested in what Calyra had to say, but he kept finding himself looking at her weird body rather than paying much attention. The sun was slowly beginning to go down, but he didn't notice it at all.

"A caracal? That is also a very funny name. I like you, Calyra" He announced proudly and purred. He was so happy to meet another kelvic, he hadn't meet a lot. He was a loner where he grew up, people in the small outpost village didn't really like having pets, let alone pets with a human form. Daemon didn't know why, but he didn't care. He had left and didn't wanted to think back on his short - yet experienced past in the village.
"Where is Eyktol? It sounds like it is faaaar away from here! I would like to go there some day. I would like to go everywhere!" He was eager, and his tail began to swipe from one side to the other. He tried to sharpen his round fluffy ears, but it seemed impossible.

"Two years ago? I was born two seasons ago! I may not be very old, but I came all the way from Syliras. Its a long way, luckily I wasn't alone." He stopped for a minute, he didn't wanted to talk about his travelling companion.
" You know I'm almost 3 seasons old. But you are two years! Have you seen the world then?"
Daemon lokked right into Calyras eyes, even though it was out of character for him. But he felt safe. Suddenly a really weird noise came out of the caracal, Daemon was all gazing so of course it startled him. He twitched up in the air and landed on his buttom. With a confusing look he just sat there, with his hair going around at all location. He had even dropped some, which was laying on the ground before him.

A sunset is not always for the loner

Postby Calyra on April 17th, 2012, 2:05 pm

Calyra looked at the slow sunset. She looked at it just for a little while, and then turned her head back at the white tiger. "true. You don't hear much about caracals, because we are very few on this ground. It's rather sad." She sighed and swiped her tail left, then right. She stretched her long front legs and shook her head. She hated the feeling when the winter coat came off. So itchy.

When she heard the age of the cub, she smiled. She hadn't seen much of young Kelvics lately. But that was probably because she had stayed in Riverfall for a time. "It's a long way to Syliras from here. At least to us Kelvics. You're really lucky when you get someone to accompany you on your journey. " She paused for a second, thinking of her own journeys, when she had no companion with her. "It really is quite dangerous outside the city..." Calyra decided to not make the cub sad or anything, so she stopped talking and smiles warmly. She thought a little about her journeys to faraway lands and opened her mouth again. "Eyktol is south from here. It's extremely warm there. I think the rain is really rare there, and that's why there isn't too much grass. I'm sure i could take you to some traveling with me, but i think i wont take you so far. I'm afraid that i can't fight too well." She smiled and felt really cared about. No one had asked her this much questions since she was just some seasons old.The questions about the future. They were just so..
Calyra laughed a little and smiled again. "I'm a wandering soul, and i usually tag along travelers and traders. I'm trying to get to Denval, but I'm looking for a companion first."

Calyra laughed a little at the young ones reaction to the sneeze. She was sure they would come along just fine, and she felt secure. Just like a older sister already.

A sunset is not always for the loner

Daemon relaxed, which made him yawn. He growled and lay down on his belly. He crossed his frontlegs and looked sleepy at Calyra. She was very nice. He liked that she was more scared than he was. Or not scared. More like cautious. He had yet to learn it, but he did notice when a threat with upholding. Luckily, he didn't came across it often.
In his short life, he already felt like he had experienced so much. His thoughts wandered off for a bit, then he put his head down on his paws.

" Have you found a companion yet? Or is it a master you're looking for? Do you want to be someones pet? " He had to restrain from sounding sarcastic at the last sentence. As a rebellious young kelvic, he didn't like the idea of being lesser than others. Myaybe because he had been so all his life, and wanted to know how it felt to be someone important.

" What if that someone has more pets? Or, what if he does not want you anymore? What do you do then? " He was actually getting a bit grumpy again. He didn't wanted others to want to be slaves. He had no problem with serving and proctecting others. But it had to be his own choice. And this pretty caracal could easily be taken advantage off. And Deamon felt as if he had to protect her from herself. Not an easy task.

A sunset is not always for the loner

Calyra sighed. She closed her eyes and put her head down in the soft grass. She thought about her life so far. All since her parents died, she had been alone. So no wonder she needed someone to talk to. And she was shy, which made things worse for her. She had only lived for a couple of years, but she wanted to be a normal person already. Many challenges are for Kelvics, not just for their race, but for their nature too. Cat's are hunters, dog's are followers. She was just... A desert cat. Nothing for her anymore. "I think it would be nice to be loved. I've seen love when I'm in the city. It's almost beautiful." She looked at the cub, and smiled. When she was young, she didn't understand why she needed someone to talk to, or be with. She was just free back then.

Calyra flickered her ears back and forth, listening if she'd heard any prey moving around that part. The prey was getting more and more unsatisfying. Just like they'd know that they were hunted, and that would hide somewhere. Calyra shook her head and swiped her tail a few times, blinking her eyes. The wind was getting colder. It was night soon. But after the cold spring, it would be summer again. And she would be three years old. Suddenly she felt like a ancient Kelvic of some sort. But no, it was just thoughts.

"I usually get along with other pets too. I hope they'll accept me too. And if a Human doesn't want me anymore, I have to accept it. I might even change town if I'm not wanted here." She looked up at the sky. No stars yet. She sighed and rolled over, and relaxed. She was a little sleepy. This would be her bed tonight. Maybe even tomorrow. She had no home. No owner. No master. Nothing.
