A Helper from the Library (Kennen)

Spring Day 47, 512 Valkalah Academy, Riverfall.

Well she was here to study right? So what better place than the library? It was a lovely spring day and a perfect day to stay inside and read. Syrah gleefully entered the Valkalah Academy and nodded at the Akalak in front of the door and the Akalak next to the door entering the Library.

Now she just needed to find a book on wine--anything really, recipes, how-to, anything including wine! And if the book couldn't be rented out, well she brought some paper for that.

When she walked into the library she gasped, it was huge, thousands of books on tall shelves. She realized that she had no idea where to find a book she needed, whenever she had a question she would ask her father. And if daddy didn't know, then it wasn't worth knowing.

She looked around and thought she might ask the second Akalak man, but decided against it, he seemed rather...stern. Swiveling her head she spotted a human man! A regular person like her! He was cute too, though he looked a bit young, but who cares?

She bravley strode up the man and cleared her throat, trying to rip his attention away from the piles of books he was immersed in.

"Excuse me. Hi. I was wondering if you could help me, locate a book maybe? I am not good with libraries..." She smiled sweetly, hoping to seduce the man into helping. She didn't think the effect worked as well as she hoped, but it certainty didn't fail. It wasn't like she was ugly. Syrah was very pretty and if you didn't get to know her you would love imaging to get to know her

Kennen was awash in pleasure. Every part of him stimulated as he leaned over the books. He was supposed to be working as a helper today, learning the ins and the outs of the library. But how could he wait to start in on his project? He had access to the books here, and was meant to copy the originals. He was in love. They had originals here that dated back to before the Valterrian. Works that even the library in the university didn't posses. This would be a lifetimes work copying and documenting everything in here, and he couldn't waste any time.

But, as his pen scribbled on the open book next to him, he heard something. It seemed distant, so he pushed it from his thoughts. His pen continued to move rapidly as he read and wrote, copying the words from one book into the blank. But, as he got to the next sentence he realised he was no longer writing the correct words. Glancing over to the blank book he read in horror, 'Hi. I was wondering if you could help me." That wasn't what the book had said. That wasn't it at all. He had ruined his first copy already.

Looking up he would stare at the distraction, or as another might call it, the girl. She was pretty enough but she was getting in the way of him and his love. But, it wouldn't do to let that show so he smiled. "Umm, Which book do you need to find ma'am? The cataloging system is actually pretty simple once you get the hang of it."

The man didn't look up right away, actually he seemed to ignore her presence. Was she not speaking loud enough? when he did look up a sort of annoyed look took over his face. Well then, Syrah thought, way to be friendly.

Syrha didn't care about the cataloging system. One, she probably wouldn't get the hang of it, so it wouldn't be easy like the boy said, and two, she didn't want to look at the catalog, she wanted his help. When he had looked up she realized he was much better looking than she thought, and she thought he was very nice when she first saw him.

He had short brown hair and deep brown eyes. His face was pleasing and he seemed to have sort of a build, even though it was not that noticeable. He was defiantly attractive and it irked her that he didn't gawk at her immediately. Most men did and took an interest until she gave the a cold look or they witnessed her personality firsthand. The boy seemed smart too as he huddled over the books, not a strong, stupid brute like some men.

Syrah laughed a small silver laugh and she looked at the boy, "Well I don't think I would do very well looking at the catalog or whatever you call it. I would like your help, if that isn't too much trouble." She gave a look that made it seemed that she really, really, wanted his help and would be hurt if he didn't help. "I am looking for a book on wine? Any helpful book like that, if there are some here. I sure do hope there is." She smiled sweetly.

She loved to toy with the boy, to see if he would give in to her flirtatiousness. She didn't really except to get involved with him, just see how he would react. It was like a game. Of course the man didn't know that.

The woman before him was beautiful, in an outward way. It was obvious by the way she moved that she knew she was beautiful as well. Perhaps he should have been more polite, thats what other guys would do in his situation and he was supposed to be learning how to socialize. "I'm sorry ma'am, i should have been politer. And, it's no trouble at all"

He would say that simply, before tilting his head as he listens to her. She didn't want to look at the catalogue. Wait, did she think he meant it was an actual catalouge? She obviously wasn't used to libraries. Perhaps she needed more help here than he had originally thought.

"Well, wine is a very broad subject. What about it would you like to know? Just different vintages? The ways to make those vintages? The difference between white and red? All those subjects are covered here."

She smiled at the man, he was being nicer, paying more attention to her. That was what she was going for.

"Oh, no, your fine, I know you were busy. I'm sorry for interrupting." She apologized kindly.

The truth was that she wanted to smack the man for not being polite sooner. Syrah had a temper and she would have loved to put him in his place, but she was trying to be nice, not just to this man, but to everyone, to be more like her mother.

"Well I think I would like to look at the vintages? Yes, I would love to add to my collection. I am a vinter you see, wine is my passion as I assume books are yours?" She asked, quite curious as to why he was so deep within them when she arrived.

She could imagine, though, writing down each type of wine and its recipes then adding them to her already very full book of wines. To gather a huge collection made from hundreds of different grapes and thousands of different flavors. She almost told the man to hurry she got so excited.

She was being far to kind. He would have to do his best to recripicate this, and help her to the best of his abilities. "It's no problem, it's my job to be interrupted." He would say with a light chuckle and smile.

"Ah, you have a passion. I assumed as much, though that it was towards a trade instead of the opposite sex is something i had not anticipated. Though it pleases me to know that you care as much about your wine, as i do my books." He would say with as polite a tone as he can, standing up slowly he would look at the shelfs and start off without waiting to see if she follows.

"Information on wine would be down this section. And, then crafting it would be on this shelf.." He would seem to be speaking more to himself as he lists off how to find it, and follows his own directions till they eventually stand in front of a couple book shelves.

"Ah this is all the books we have on the topic you are searching for."

Syrah took his statement about passion as a compliment and happily followed him down the row of bookcases. A little known secret about Syrah was that she adored being complimented. She tried to hide it and maintain her shell, but inside she would glow.

When they reached the wine section she gazed at the books in awe. There were so many, and all of them about wine! Her father would die, she just knew it.
"Thank you, this is going to be great!" She said enthusiastically, "Oh, I didn't catch you name, I'm Syrah, like the grape." She grinned.

Syrah loved her name, it was a grape used in wine and it fit her perfectly. She loved her father, but this was one of the few things she admired about him, naming her Syrah.

She seemed really happy to see all the books, and that brought a smile to his face. Her name was Syrah, so she said. It was a type of grape? What significance did that have? But, she seemed to take a pleasure in that fact so he would simply smile and nod, "A pleasure Syrah, I'm called Kennen."

He would point up at a couple books after introducing himself, "I think this book here will help you with vinting itself, but this one over here has much more unusual references in it to help you experiment with." Now that he was talking about books, his voice came to life. An almost melodic tone to it as he moved down the bookcase, giving recommendations on those he recognized. "And this one here has lists in it of most different famous brews, and the information on how to make them from the authors understanding."

He would look the three books over he had pointed out before motioning to the first one again. "This one we have copies of so i'm sure you'll be aloud to take one. The other two however, you'd have to commission to get a copy made."

The man, Kennen he said, seemed to brighten up when he talked of the books, just like Syrah had when she mentioned the wine. Too bad about the books though. She would take the first one but she really wanted to take the third one as well. The third one seemed like exactly what she was looking for.

She carefully reached up and grabbed the first book Vinting for Beginners. Well darn, she thought, I am certainly no beginner. This won't help me at all. She quickly flipped through the pages and saw that it would not in fact help her at all. She already knew the information it provided.

So she picked up the third one an opened it. Seeing immediately some wine recipes she did not own.

Yes this is definitely what I need, she mused. She turned back to Kennen and said, "I would like a copy made of this one," she said gesturing to the book in her hands. It was not a large book, but copying any book was a big job she guessed. "I hope thats not too much trouble. It would be really useful to me."

She looked back down at the book and smiled. She reached over and took the second book, opening it to look for any recipes. There were some and she decided she would copy them onto her piece of paper before she went home.

The woman, Syrah, seemed disapointed by the first book. Well, thats why he had pointed out the other books. She spent some time looking through it, but it was obvious by the way she flipped through the pages rapidly that it was trivial knowledge to her. Or perhaps she had already possessed such.

She started looking through the third book and the expression on her face made kennen smile. He had picked out a proper book for her, but it meant more work for her. Instead of transcribing books on subjects of his interest he would more than likely have to copy this one. Well, he had volunteered his services so it's what he got for wanting a job. And yes, there we go, she stated her desires known.

"No, no trouble. It is my job after all. How about you go and sit down, look through the two books you like and write down any information that catchs your eye and once you leave i'll get started on the copies." His voice was polite and distant as he said it, a neutral expression on his face.
