He watched her for a moment, as she sort of stood there puzzled. she obviously was not expecting to be told to attack so early, not when they had just begun. But it was a common learning style here, to learn by doing, with hands on experience.
Bruises and blood, were often the sign of a lesson well learned, and he felt this was true. Not that he was going to really hurt her, no that would be rude to hurt a girl. But he could certainly teach her in a more physical fashion.
She sort of clumsily came forward finally, not exactly sure of what to do. Then all at once she lunged at him, trying frantically to attack him and smash him in the chest with the wooden dagger.
He of course had expected such a obvious movement, which was common to what someone would think was an idea, before actually fighting. But so often in real combat, those flashy fully committed moves... Got you killed, or disarmed, and left you wide open to counterattack...
Now he himself had done the same thing many a time, and so it brought a smile to his face, as he reacted to this move that was so expected.
He did a sort of combination movement, moving back and away diagonally from her, so as to get out of the range of the wild slash she had tried. Then while she had her arm fully extended, and fully committed, he would slash at her dagger with his lakan, attempting to knock it right out of her hand.
If he was successful in disarming her, he would move in closer, putting the tip of the wooden lakan that would be sharp on a real lakan, to her throat, once more smiling at her.
"Two things. One, try and keep a firmer grip on your weapon. Not to firm so as to make it harder to move it, but enough so you don't so easily lose it."
"And two, only fully commit to a blow, if your opponent cannot defend, and it is a finishing blow. I am sure it looked cool, but it left you wide open. In a real fight, you could easily have just had your throat slit open, and a few cuts across you. Which would not be so good."
"Don't forget about defense, in your excitement for offense. Though in all honesty, it seems like it was not so long ago, when I did the same thing... And when I did it, my teacher nearly let me crack my skull open to make sure I would recall it." |
