Hands closed around his face and her forehead pressed against his. She was whispering to him softly. Somehow her lisp felt more soothing than if it had been a regular human's voice. When she kissed his forehead a wave a calm seemed to wash over him and his shaking stopped completely. He could breathe more easily and he no longer felt tense. When she told him that she would begin, he braced himself, though not in the frantic, panicked way he had done before. Still, he held his breath, kept his eyes closed, and waited.

Nothing happened. He could not feel anything happening, at least. Was that a good thing or a bad thing? Hesitantly, he cracked one eye open to look at what she was doing and instantly regretted it. She was already halfway up his forearm, making pokes at his flesh as she went along. He squeezed his eyes shut again. It was a bad thing. Definitely a bad thing. There was another few seconds of silent nothingness and then, just before she got to his elbow, a sudden, surprising prick. He jumped and even let out a small yelp. She had hit him in the exact spot where the feeling in his arm returned. He opened his eyes and looked at her.

He felt his heart begin to sink as she spoke. If she could not fix him then who could? She was the only person he knew with any medical skill at all. But a the mention of Jorg he perked up. That was a Jamouran name and Shadowfang loved Jamourans. They were wise, knowledgeable, and skilled at what they do. His only true friend for years back in Xy was a Jamouran and from that, he was convinced that Jamourans knew everything. Jorg was his last chance. If he could not fix him, then no one would be able to.

[The Injury Ward] A Helping Hand (Sahashkalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on June 6th, 2012, 2:32 am

Kalila put his arm down gently and stood up, ruffling his hair slightly. "I am going to sspeak to Jorg and ssee what he can tell me. He will know what to do,"she said softly with a small smile before she went off to speak with Jorg, her thoughts troubled. The injury wasn't natural, so conventional means of healing would not have been practical or would have even made a difference to the state of his arm. Jorg seemed to be able to do things that she couldn't, his ways were strange and sometimes unnatural, but she knew she could depend on him....when he wasn't going through one of his phases though. She fervently hoped that he wasn't this time.

She found him on the other end of the ward, attending to a patient with a nasty bruise on his ribs. Approaching him hesitantly she cleared her throat, looking up as he turned slowly to look down at her. His eyes seemed sharp and focused, and she sighed in relief, happy that he was back at the moment. She had to make it quick though, because she knew that he could fade away at a moments notice. "Jorg, I have a ssevere ssituation on my handsss....I do not know what to do with thiss patient. It iss beyond me and I need your help, would you look at him pleasse?"she asked rather briskly, hoping that he would agree and follow her quickly before he faded.

Jorg turned to face her fully and studied her for a moment, the faint lines of a smile crossing his face. You are normally not one who asks for help Kalila....but if it is urgent, then I will come with you. Lead on."

Kalila flashed a quick smile to him and brought him over to the bed where Shadowfang sat, giving the Zith a light, reassuring squeeze on the shoulder and Jorg came to inspect the injury. "He doesss not have any feeling below hiss elbow, the wounds are of unnatural causses. The sskin isss jussst sssimply....gone, I do not know how elsse to desscribe it,"she said with a frown as she watched Jorg pick up Shadowfang's arm and inspect it intently, the wrinkles on his face crinkling as he frowned.

"This was made from magic, was it not? You have done something you shouldn't have young one,"he said softly, laying the Zith's arm in his lap. His hand lit up with a soft glow as he moved up his arm, the little pinpricks disappearing along with the scratches that had been made, but the holes sitll remained. "I cannot replace what had been taken away from you young one, you have made a grave error and are now paying the price. I am sorry but there is nothing that I can do for you,"he said after a long moment, getting up gravely.

Kalila had watched the entire process with a certain kind of hope, knowing that Jorg could fix anything. Yet here he was saying that nothing could be done, just as her gut had told her. She sat down on the bed next to Shadowfang, looking at Jorg sadly. "There mussst be sssomething that can be done...."she trailed off, knowing that that was it.

There is nothing Kalila, it is beyond either of us. This lad is paying for his error, I cannot mend what is lost. I am sorry,"Jorg said before heading back to his other patient, his voice filled with sadness.

Kalila sat there in silence for a few moments, her head turned away from Shadowfang. She had failed him. She had promised everything was going to be alright, and had lied. She felt tears prick at her eyes and she wiped them away, wishing that she had somehow been able to do more. "I....I am sssorry Ssshadow I....I have failed you and I....I am very sssorry,"she said, her voice hitching as she tried to hide her emotion.

[The Injury Ward] A Helping Hand (Sahashkalila)

Postby Shadowfang on June 7th, 2012, 10:46 pm

He showed no indication that he had heard the old Jamouran's words. His magic had gotten him out of scrapes and even saved his life time and time again. As dangerous as it was, he was glad to have it, even though it had hurt him. He felt his excitement grow when the soft glow emanated from Jorg's hands and the pinpricks began disappearing. But... nothing else disappeared. The pockmarks and scars in his arm remained exactly as they were and the feeling did not come back. Nothing could be done.

He let his arm rest on his thigh and just stared at it blankly. He could no longer hear what Kalila and Jorg were saying and just stared, not really comprehending what was going on. He only heard one other thing that Jorg said. "Nothing." Suddenly, he realized that Jorg had left and Kalila was talking to him, even though he still could not quite understand anything that was said. He remained silent and fell over, resting his head on Kalila. Tears began to form at the corners of his eyes and soak into his fur. He did not know exactly how to describe it but he just felt... bad... helpless.

"It will come back." He was trying to reassure her but trying to reassure himself a the same time. True, feeling in his arm came and went, but it had never been this severe and it had never been gone this long. In truth, he was worried, and he did not like for her to feel sad for him. "It will come back." He heaved a short sigh - or was it a sob? - and closed his eyes. He wrapped one arm around Kalila's waist and hugged her. For him, contact with another being was greater comfort than words could ever be. He felt so pathetic and helpless and tired; mostly tired now. Maybe if he went to sleep, everything would be better when he woke up. There, leaning against the gentle healer who had tried so hard to help him, he let sleep take hold.

[The Injury Ward] A Helping Hand (Sahashkalila)

Postby Sahashkalila on June 7th, 2012, 11:27 pm

Kalila placed a hand on his thigh as he fell against her, tears forming inner own eyes and beginning to fall as her heart went out to him. She felt awful, more than awful really. Deep down she knew that there was really nothing she could do, but she wished that there had been something. If she had studied harder, of she had pushed herself to find a way she might could have helped him. She glanced at him and saw that he was shedding a few tears of his own, and she reach over to wipe them away as he chanted to himself.

She felt an arm snake around her waist and she was being pulled towards him, and she wrapped her arms around him and held him close as he let out his sorrow. "It isss ok, it isss ok,"she said softly, cradling him and running her fingers through his hair. She stayed that way for a few moments before she heard his breathing start to deepen and felt his body relax some more against her. She figured that shock and exhaustion had finally caught up with him, and she looked to see that his eyes had closed.

As gently as she could, she began to ease her body back against the pillows of the bed, holding him against her as she cradled him to her chest. She continued to run a hand through his hair while the other made soothing circles on his back, hoping that he had at least found a little bit of peace at the moment. "You will be alright Sshadow, I know it,"she said softly as she looked down at him, a surge of emotion forming for the creature she held in her arms. She then let her own eyes close, letting the soothing sounds of his breathing lull her into an easy nap.
