Norae is a very peaceful serene person who travels the seas escorting people from one port to another and acting as a traveling bard as her primary profession. Norae takes care of herself and doesn't seem to need a lot out of life. She asks bigger questions and searches for answers, but doesn't let anger or despair often influence her. She is cautious by nature but a very safe traveler, having good instincts on the weather and when to find shelter based on the tides. Norae has a lengthy past stretching all the way back to the Valterrian, but she does not let that cloud her future. She loves easily and befriends folks well enough. And though she does carry news, Norae dislikes gossip and thus is very tight lipped about her secrets - her age being one of those. More often than naught when people recognize her race she lets them believe that she hasn't been around for a very long time unless they ask directly. And though Norae could be considered ancient, she doesn't feel thusly. Each day brings right new promise and her sense of time seems to be completely nonexistant.

The Ethaefal sat quietly, staring up at the sun with no fear in her eyes and no hatred either. So often her kind displayed pain, grief, and even rage as they either stared at the Sun or the Moon. But such things had dulled slightly for Norae. She figured, all in all, she had bigger problems to deal with than to hold onto something she couldn't change - something like a loss. Slowly, she continued speaking, a sort of confessional to the Sun.

"I've walked the world for 512 years. It sounds absurd, I know, but something happened all those years ago that tore the world asunder, caused it to bleed real and true pain, and I was there to witness it. Why did you make me see these things? Feel these things? Know these things first hand? You can't tell me all that happened just for the love of a mortal by a God? Even now it is hard to speak of the Valterrian as the humans now call it. I know you know the truth of it all, Syna, and I understand why you hold your secrets close. We all do that. But I have a need to understand. I won't give up until I do. Why was I among the first to fall? Why did I witness it all first hand and survive when so many others did not? There was so much pain, so much fear, so much despair and all I could do was sing to them, play to them, and offer them comfort that was meaningless in a world that had no rhyme nor reason left to it. They forget so easily, Syna. They forget and learn nothing of the past but how to blindly stumble forward into the future."
She said, taking a brief breath and trying to form the words she wanted to say. Norae was a patient creature, divine in the sunlight and reflecting that in her soft words to a Goddess she still stubbornly held loyalty and love for.

"I felt it coming... the storm when winter changed to spring. Not when it happened, but afterwards like a changing tide ready to wash particularly large waves up on the shore. I've walked in djed infested lands before back in the times before we knew how dangerous the djed was and how it could change people so drastically. Its marked me in ways I still do not understand, changing my eyes, my hair, my horns. I lived, and I'd like to think it was through your Grace I did so. But to do what? To gather orphans around me and teach them music so they could channel their fear and sleep finally instead of only curl up in terror? Some of my child songs still linger, a hold over from the cave dwelling days. Is that why I am here? To give warning of the future? To keep the people that survived the first round of changes from forgetting how they did so? Is there more coming, Syna? Or was this just an aftershock, a small rumbling after the main event? I wish I knew, Syna... I wish I knew."
Norae said, then slowly picked up her bagpipes.

As she did so often, she tilted them towards the sky, filled them with air, and began to play a low mournful tune dedicated to the Sun Goddess and all her shining glory. Her fingers trailed across the pipe, pulling out notes, pouring her soul into the pipping so that her Goddess could see how much But it was a sad tale, of her faithful spilling away from her, going out into the world, abandoned. She honored the Goddess still, even after all these years. Her love hadn't changed. Only her circumstances had been altered.

She drifted back as she played, thinking of the gnosis mark burned on her shoulder and of meeting the old man who had literally put the pipes into her hands.

It was still year zero after the world had ended and the skies still burned. People hadn't gone underground yet, too stupid to know that's where survival could be best facilitated. They lived in the ruins of civilization, picking through the debris, and eking a living off the remains of the instead of ensuring their own future. Norae was in a capital city, Lisnar she thought, though the name didn't matter much anymore. Ruins, smoldering and dank, though some shops still existed intact though no one manned their store fronts. There were no more need for fancy dresses, hat makers of fine furred fedoras, and all the like. Anything that could be eaten had been long gone. Anything that could be worn or used for shelter was likewise missing. And yet Norae still wandered through the city, flashes of memory rising up in her mind. She sought her identity, her reason for being, and in those times even her name. So she wandered, in a seemingly empty half-destroyed city, wondering if they'd all died or gone somewhere together.

At first she almost walked passed it, tucked in a ruined alley that opened to a once beautiful courtyard with a fountain. The fountain was cracked, buckled, and water pooled on the stones around it, held by nothing and doing little enough irrigating as it was. The shop was off the courtyard, its glass panels broken, and several of the window display instruments gone most likely for firewood, the only evidence of them having even been there was the contrast between the faded velvet drape cloths and the brilliant velvet shaped beneath where an instrument had once shaded it from the sun.

Seeing the broken harp sign swinging in the wind, Norae slipped into the shop and looked around with wonder. Instruments lay scattered throughout the place, some broken and some well intact. She knew what they were and was somewhat familiar with a few of them as she ran her hands along their whole and broken lengths. A sadness filled her thinking the shop a reflection of the current world... some denizens whole, some broken, some utterly beyond repair.

"Greetings, Sunchild." A man's voice filled the store suddenly. Norae paused, startled, not expecting anyone to be here. She was afraid because bad things did and could happen, but she wasn't frozen by fear. There was a warm resonance to the voice, a welcome, that somehow comforted her as she looked up and saw an old man sitting behind the shop's counter. He looked amused to see her not at all upset she was in essence trespassing in his place, which confused her.

"Everyone's gone somewhere. Are they okay?"
She asked softly, confused, wondering why this man wasn't afraid of her or angry at her tresspass.

"Yes, they've gone below ground. Some of them, the ones that survived, moved where it was safe. The Storms come too regularly now. They change too much, even yourself, Sunchild. Others are gone from here for now, like you yourself have quit Syna's realm. They couldn't handle so much change so fast. You should join them. It is not safe up here, you know." He said knowingly.

"I want to be with them."
She said abruptly. "But I am not of them. I feel so much for them and want to comfort them, but I am strange to them and being away from Her would be hard I think." Norae responded, thoughtful but truthful.

"It is true one such as yourself must come above where they will not have to for years. But nothing, sunchild, that is worth doing is easy besides perhaps love. And you love, so act in that way for them and it will not be as hard as you think. I can feel the music inside you. Share that with them. Calm them, teach them, for your kind know much even if you are just newly to this place. I see you have nothing but a light pack and a gifted voice. Pick something else, something from the ruins of this shop, and use it when your voice falters... for it will below, with so much joy that needs spreading."
He said, and beckoned the girl to start to search.

She did, picking through the ruins of the shop, looking at stringed instruments and other things, made for both wind and tension. Her hands stroked both good and wrecked instruments, watching the old man, watching his eyes, and finally letting his gaze guide her to the bagpipes. She picked them up, not knowing how to use them, and brought them over to him.

He nodded approvingly. "Yes... those will do. Those will do quite well." Then together they sat and he showed her the basic fingerings of the pipes and later, once she had them worked out, they played basic songs together well into the dark where her sun filled form changed to her human seeming. And once they'd mastered the baby steps, he left her then, with a hug and a set of directions to where the caves below Lisnar were that housed the people. And where his hands wrapped around her he left the sign of Audius on her shoulder so that once she mastered the pipes as well as she'd already learned to control her voice, she could use it to help the people below keep calm and uplifted even in those darkest days.

Norae is in a lot of ways a remnant from another time. Having fallen in year zero in the heart of the world being torn asunder she knew what did exist and what came after. Her housing reflects this. Equivalent in all ways to a Svefra Casinor, Norae's Catamaran is of old fashioned wooden design that predates the Valterrian. While not as maneuverable as a Casinor, Norae's The Oasis can out sail one speed wise due to the double hull and the lighter lower drag in the water that catamaran's enjoy. The Oasis also has a deck mounted harpoon for defense and a good supply of the bolts that it takes, some tethered to the ship some not.
