Name: Aolther (A-ol-ther) of the Singinghounds
Race: Drykas
Birthday & Age :490 AV (22 years old)
Gender: Male
Physical Description
Aolther’s long, proud earthen brown hair swims in the wind. Stout of chest and heavy in shoulder the young man sits still upon a dark bay. A cuirie of boiled leather is worn over a gambeson which covers from neck to thigh. Aolther is tall and stark and long of limb. Rolling plains of tall grass and sedges bob and bend with ever westerly breath, rich and golden. The sun stands high and bright and alone in a blue, cloudless sky. The Drykas’ cloak of dark green beats in the gust, clapping rhythmic and hard like giant hands across a canvas drum. Aolther could be considered comely. His jaw is hard and masculine, sea eyes of greyish blue and beard of cropped copper. The horseman’s sword belt is dyed maroon leather, tooled beautifully in Dryka’s knots and horse motifs. All other garb is rather plain needing not mention. Fastened to his prized belt is tucked a simple knife and longsword straight of guard, broad of base with a medium fuller and a noticeably defined taper. A cloth of yellow is sewn around the man’s upper arm, heralding the topaz clan.
Character Concept
Fierce in love and wrath Aolther is the third son of Hemelmyn, a respected rider and Drykas warrior. Hemelmyn is second son to Penwald the greatly aging and grim pavilion Ankal. In youth Hemmelmyn was blessed in physical prowess but cursed in marriage. A father of four grown children, Hemelmyn has wed five times and lost three wives, two to the birthing bed. Osart, Penwald’s first born son is heir to Ankalship and he himself has two sons, both married with children.
As the wizened and once strong Penwald days draw nigh, Osart seems ill fitted to become the hearth leader. It is said Osart’s wives often shares a cold blanket for dice and drink are his mistress. Osart’s sons follow suit as debtors and braggarts. The Penwald family pavilion migrates with three other close family groups, their families pavilions traditionally holding a leadership role. The Burningwind family pavilion has recently gained a new Ankal, the very loved and able Jorn.
Aolther is a young man whom possesses both martial might and keen wit. His relationship with his father and siblings is strong. The Drykas is often in company with his elder brother Grenlad, a sinewy and able horseback bowman and naturalist. Harbold, Penwald’s eldest is a warm and hearty mustached wrestler and loving father, champion of arms and drink. Aolther’s younger sister Ailee is a very comely and assertive woman approaching courting age.
The family is known amongst the pavilions as The Singinghounds. For generations sport hounds have lived and hunted in good number with the family. While most Drykas own dogs, Aolther's family's hounds are distinctive in their almost blue spotting upon brown and white bodies. The hounds also have a deep tell tale baying from which they gain their names.
Hemmelmyn and his kin are troubled with the prospect of Osart leadership and the possible dominance of the Burningwind. Freedom, family and duty are beset by pride and vanity. The horse may kick or kiss the earth, just as the wind may play and entice the tall grass to dance, or command it to bow.
