Balthazaar Kraigen ![]() (NOTE: More pictures to come soon…hopefully @.@) Physical Description Name: Balthazaar Kraigen Race: Mixed Blood (Dhani/Human) Age: 25 (although he looks younger) Birthday: 20th of Spring 487 AV Height: 5’ 10” Weight: 180 lbs Balthazaar (build wise) is average all around; average height, average weight and generally everything else is equally proportional to this. He has light blonde hair which he prefers either kept at medium length, shaggy and somewhat unkempt or he shaves it off. He has generally attractive (if not somewhat boyish) features, with a scar located on the left side of his face (his left). He does however have two distinct features that set him apart from simply human and show bearings of the Dhani blood within him. The first of which being his eyes. At first glance they seem normal: light green eyes with a tint of yellow. However, on closer inspection it becomes quite clear that they are much more serpentine closer up than they appear at a distance. To top it off, his eyes also seem to tell a different story than the rest of the features of his face (and even his body) do. As an example, one might be having a conversation with Balthazaar and observe that everything about his body language suggests that he is happy and having a good time except for his eyes. In fact, it is almost as if his eyes are peering through you, judging you, or even viewing you as a tasty snack. The other distinctive feature of his body is his skin, which at a distance and in low light settings appears perfectly normal: Lightly tan, if not a little dry. This being said, when you observe his skin close up (and especially under a powerful light source) a very faint scale-like pattern can be seen. Those who actually touch his skin in conjunction with seeing this strange pattern will receive a sensation that further augments their vision. There is one other thing that separates Balthazaar from any normal human, which is the fact that he ages much slower than the average person. This can also attributed to the Dhani blood flowing within him, although it is drastically different from their slow aging process. Whereas the Dhani take many years to reach maturity, Balthazaar ages only 5 years slower than any given human. What this means is that at the age of 25, he looks and has the same body of someone who has just reached late teens/early twenties. Clothing wise, Balthazaar wears very simple attire. Nothing too flashy or outlandish, as Balthazaar prefers to stay as inconspicuous as possible. The only piece of clothing that comes close to seeming out of place on his body is the black cloak with gold lining that his father gave him. The only reason that this seems out of place at all is because Balthazaar wears it everywhere, no matter the climate or the temperature. Even on the hottest day, in the hottest environment, he would be wearing this cloak. This is partly due to the Dhani blood within him that makes him colder than the average person and partly because of the sentimental value. Character Concept Balthazaar is someone who lives with conflicting personalities. This is not to be confused with him having multiple personalities where he switches at random times to two distinctly different people. Rather Balthazaar has two sides to his personality, one much stronger than the other. On the surface and as a whole, Balthazaar is a quiet, shy and rather kind individual who prefers to spend a large amount of his time fiddling with herbs or studying. On the flip side, due to the Dhani blood running through him, Balthazaar has to contend/deal with a part of him that is far more angry, devious, and cunning. The worst part being that Balthazaar has very limited control of when this side of his personality rears its ugly head. For example, there will be times where he will say or do things that he would normally never say or do, without realizing what is happening. Other times, he will get the urge but have the ability to resist or fight against it. Then there are the times when the darker side of his personality seems to take over completely. This usually only happens during extremely emotional or stressful times in Balthazaar’s life. Character History Balthazaar’s mother came to The Spires seeking knowledge long ago. However, even though she was a mere human she was accepted by the people and made permanent residency there. It was until many years later that Balthazaar’s father came into the picture. Posing as a simple botanist, the Dhani Rattler was instantly drawn to her and in a very short time the two had found themselves interwoven together. However, their relationship didn’t last. After a few short weeks the Dhani left without saying a single goodbye. Heartbroken and angry, Balthazaar’s mother worked herself to the bone trying her best to forget the love she had lost. Little did she know, that this short fling would have unintended consequences. Nine months later, Balthazaar was born. For the first 10 years of his life Balthazaar grew up without a father. Trying desperately, Balthazaar took a job at young age and worked to help support their small family. In between his work and the chores he had to do at home, Balthazaar found time to study as much as he could. On his 11th birthday, Balthazaar received a special visitor at their home. Unable to recognize him at all, he proceeded to call his mother to the door who nearly fainted at the site of the individual. After nearly 12 years of being away, Balthazaar’s father had returned. However, the reunion was not a happy one. Balthazaar’s mother wanted nothing to do with the man and demanded that he leave at once, slamming the door in his face before he could say a word. The man was persistent though, nearly breaking the door down with his body, he demanded that he and Balthazaar’s mother go for a walk as they had: “much to discuss.” His mother was gone for two hours before she returned. When she did, she was white as a ghost and immediately went lie down, leaving Balthazaar and his father to have a chat. In the very brief conversation that ensued, the mysterious stranger revealed himself as his father and explained that he was planning on spending a lot of time with him from now on. Thus began the relationship between Balthazaar and his father. For the next 5 years, Balthazaar’s father spent as much time as he possibly could with the boy. Being a knowledgeable botanist and poison specialist, he taught Balthazaar as much as he could about the Flora around the region. Especially which plants were bad to eat, which ones had medicinal properties and which ones could be made into somewhat lethal concoctions. He also taught Balthazaar how to use a bow and hunt with it, the basics of how to survive in the wilderness and even what little he knew about making one’s own arrows. In those five years, Balthazaar became very close to his father without even realizing what he was or what it meant about himself. Then once again, out of nowhere, Balthazaar’s father disappeared without saying anything. At first Balthazaar was furious with his father and refused to forgive him. But as the years passed his anger dissipated and he realized that he wanted nothing more than to follow in his father’s footsteps as a successful botanist. It was nine years total until Balthazaar heard from his father again. By this point, his mother had fallen ill and he was devoting as much time to studying herbs in the hopes of creating something to ease his mother’s suffering. It was late at night when Balthazaar heard a knock on the door. Having fallen asleep on his desk again, he took some time to orient himself before answering the door. When finally opened it, his father burst in and instantly began explaining how Balthazaar and his mother had to leave. He apologized for being gone for so many years and told him that it had all been done in order to protect Balthazaar and his mother, but there was no more protection he could provide and the only solution was for them to go someplace else in order be safe. Confused and upset, Balthazaar told his father that there was no way that he was taking his mother anywhere, especially not in her condition. “Then you’ll just have to go yourself” his father said in shortened breaths, as he rushed through the rooms and began packing up some of Balthazaar’s things. “Absolutely not! I am not leaving my mother here by herself.” Balthazaar said angrily, blocking his father from collecting anymore of his materials. Seeing the resolve in his son’s eyes, he took a seat and began to explain the full situation to him. He started with who he really was, what Balthazaar was, and how the mixing of blood was frowned upon. He told him that he would have to leave in order to keep his nest from suspecting so they could never hurt his family. He then went on to tell Balthazaar that the situation has changed and now everyone was at risk, including himself. Awestruck by the massive amount of information he had just been told, Balthazaar sat limply as his father got up and then continued to pack. Once he had finished, he returned to Balthazaar, picked him up and then proceeded to hug him before saying: “I’m sorry it had to come to this.” He then proceeded to take off the cloak he was ever so fond of and wrap it around Balthazaar. “As much as I wish I could say we’ll see each other again, it just isn’t so. I’ll do my best to get your mother out of here, but no matter what, this is going to be goodbye forever.” His father said, as he loaded Balthazaar up with his various possessions. “There is a group of travelers heading up towards Avanthal, I’ve arranged for you to go with them. They are waiting just a little ways up the path. Stay in Avanthal for as long as you can and after some time has passed feel free to make your way in the world. Whatever you do, do not tell anyone about your lineage. Most importantly, just stay safe.” With those parting words, his father gave him one last hug and then pushed him towards the door. A part of him wanted to turn around and defy his father’s orders, but his body was acting of its own accord. Unable to fight against it, he simply accepted his fate and made his way towards the travelers and his new life in Avanthal. Possessions Starting Package :
