Basic Information

Age: 18
Race: Konti
Birthday: Day 38 of Summer, 493 AV
Gender: Female

Physical Description

Though delicate in appearance and small in stature, weighing roughly 110 pounds and barely reaching 5’3, Va’ea actually feels as though she encompasses more space than her slight form takes up. This could be attributed to the fact that the girl’s pale blond hair is quite stubborn, having a mind of its own and sticking up any which way it pleases. Though, unlike her Mother, Va’ea doesn’t mind in the least since it adds about three more inches to her diminutive stature. Pale in the way of most Konti, Va’ea also sports a decorative design of scales upon her body, with a small cluster forming a pale, violet crown above the girl’s brow. However, on the brightest of days, Va’ea’s scales are nearly incandescent, glowing with the same light as the girl’s violet eye. Avalis’ gnosis mark is as equally beautiful, resting just on the underside of the Konti’s left wrist and shimmering that same incandescent violet. The stylized lily seems to bloom most beautifully under the bright summer sun, perhaps in contest with the twinning pattern of Va’ea’s scales.

Character Concept

Personality:

Va’ea is a curious child, and as such she’s always looking for a new adventure. Though this can easily be found in books Va’ea prefers to take a more physical approach, spending much of her time in the sea in a never ending search for knowledge and excitement. She also enjoys horseback riding and tree climbing, and due to this the girl more often than not sports a rather unkempt appearance. Though Va’ea does not mind going on her adventures alone she finds equal enjoyment in persuading others to follow along, eager for social interaction and the chance to spin new tales together.

Ethics:

Though Va’ea is inherently good, and gravitates towards people of a similar nature, due to the girl’s curiosity she can just as easily delve into the less than innocent side of life. However, this curiosity of the darker aspects of nature is generally fulfilled by browsing a book or two, or by listening to someone spinning wild tales. It is a rare event indeed when Va’ea finds herself in an ethically immoral situation, though like many children, Va’ea can be quite mischievous at times.

Likes:

For all of the physical activities Va’ea enjoys doing—fishing, horseback riding, tree climbing—the girl also enjoys the calm tranquility of painting, and upon rare occasion, reading. Va’ea’s fondness for physical activities encompasses training with the three-pronged suvai, though the girl is still very much a novice.

Dislikes:

Va’ea strongly dislikes people who lie or cheat or try to deceive minus the exception of great storytelling of course. Va’ea also dislikes violence and thoughts of war though just as equally she dislikes sitting too long in one place, or being cooped up indoors, or being away from the sea for too long.

Character History

Born and raised in Mura, Va’ea has had a carefree childhood, loved and nurtured by not only her Mother but the other women of Konti. Indeed, Va’ea’s childhood would be typical of any Konti if not for the fact that Va’ea has always been a wild child. Not content to sit around patiently learning lore and other education typical of childhood study, Va’ea would much rather go exploring, her young mind eager for adventure. Swimming to the deepest depths of the sea or climbing to the top of the tallest tree is of great interest to Va’ea, her avid violet eyes seeking out new sights.

This fascination has taught Va’ea to have a great love for nature, be it for plants, animals, or the bewitching beauty of the elements. It was with these feelings of love swelling in her heart that Va’ea picked up her first paintbrush, wanting more than anything for the sights before her to come to life on canvas. Thus, through her growing skill in painting, it was that Avalis’ gift begin to manifest itself. After much practice with her paintbrushes Va’ea begin to notice that occasionally while painting, Avalis’ gnosis would seem to tingle, the young Konti overtaken by an urge to paint with her left hand, even though the girl’s dominant hand is her right.

One day, after feeling that now familiar tingle Va’ea found herself overcome with curiosity. She would paint with her left hand today. Quickly the Konti switched the paintbrush to her left hand before continuing her painting. Yet…Va’ea was unable to continuing her painting. No matter how hard the girl tried she would simple freeze up before her paintbrush would touch the canvas. Upset by this unexpected turn of events, Va’ea decided to abandon her picture for more physical pursuits, the girl enjoying a lengthy excursion through a recently discovered underwater cave.

Va’ea swam for quite some time, not returning back to the surface until she became physically exhausted. Perhaps it was due to the fact that her latest adventure had considerably tired the small girl that Va’ea simply ran on autopilot, her legs leading her home. Indeed, Va’ea was in such a dazed state that it took her some time before she realized that she was painting—right handed. Fascinated, Va’ea stared wide-eyed at the picture, almost unable to breathe until her hand stopped moving.

Though Va’ea had been painting for quite some time now the girl was barely competent, yet the picture she was now gazing at was of such a quality that it would take years, and plenty of them, for the young girl to reproduce such aesthetics. But, perhaps more shocking than that, was the fact that the painting was a portrait. Va’ea had never drawn anyone before, the girl more fascination by nature than the pale, willowy forms of Konti that she saw on a day to day bases. Yet…the portrait was not even of a Konti, but of a woman with sun-kissed skin and dark hair.

Perplexed, Va’ea showed her Mother the portrait, and after a brief explanation her Mother simply nodded, reminding her that all of Avalis’ children have a unique gift and this was more than likely hers. Va’ea’s Mother was correct, because no amount of right-handed painting would produce a portrait of such beauty again, for without that small tingling of her gnosis mark all of the pictures were undoubtly Va’ea’s—created by a novice.

It was not until nearly the next season that the true nature of Va’ea’s gift made itself clear. Sent on an errand by her Mother Va’ea found herself haggling over goods in the marketplace, when seemingly out of nowhere the woman in the portrait was standing right in front of Va’ea! With her violet eyes growing wide, Va’ea let out a sharp gasp of surprise, loud enough to draw the woman’s attention.

“I have been searching for you,” the woman said in a calm voice though there was a small bit of surprise lingering on her face.

“F—for me?” Va’ea’s eyes were impossibly wider now, and it had taken the girl a moment to speak since she was still quite shocked.

“Are you not Vala’s grandchild?” Even more surprised now, Va’ea nods mutely. The woman offered Va’ea a reassuring smile before reaching into her cloak and pulling out an aged tome. “I was instructed to give this to you.”

Still in shock Va’ea silently retrieved the book from the woman, not snapping out of her stupor until the tall lady gives a curt nod, turning on her heels and heading back in the direction that she had came. “Wait!” Va’ea said, a small hand reaching out to take a hold of the woman’s dark cloak. “I have something for you as well,” Va’ea says by way of explanation.

Her marketplace errand forgotten Va’ea sets a brisk pace as she headed back home, her fingers still twined in the woman’s cloak as she lead the way. When she arrived home Va’ea quickly rushes into her room, gently placing the book down before picking up the portrait of the beautiful woman that she had created nearly a season ago.

Heading back outside Va’ea hastily makes her way back to the woman’s side before holding the painting up. “This is for you.”

The woman stared at the picture, silent and perhaps in as much shock as Va’ea was upon seeing the physical manifestation of her painting. After another moment of silence the woman retrieved the painting before offering the Konti a polite nod, once more turning on her heels to head back to the docks.

“Wait!” Va’ea said quickly, once more stopping the woman short. “How…how did you know that I was Vala’s granddaughter?”

The woman glanced over her shoulder at Va’ea, the portrait held gently, yet securely in her hands. “I was told that Vala and her granddaughter would share the same violet eyes.”

“But there are other Konti with violet eyes.”

“Correct. However, the other Konti with violet eyes did not recognize me as you have. Too, this portrait you have painted of me holds the undeniable truth that we were fated to meet, if only briefly.”

Va’ea did not speak any further, and just as suddenly as the woman had appeared she was gone.

It was from that day forward that Va’ea began to understand Avalis’ gift, though never again did Va’ea’s gnosis mark tingle. Instead, the Konti would see a quick vision, like a flash of light, of the continence of someone she had yet to meet. Sometimes these visions were strikingly clear though mostly they were blurry, the girl’s gift wild and untrained. But no matter what the quality of the vision, they always rang true, for each person she would see, sooner or later, Va’ea would find herself face to face with a stranger she felt like she already knew.
