Stalking is in the job desciption[Solo]

Gathering intel sounds less creepy than stalking... But common for a spy...

Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Stalking... It sounded like something one did to an animal, when hunting... He supposed it was sort of like that... Going after the one thing... The need to not be noticed. All for the eventual goal of getting them, though more literally when actually hunting for killing and food.

In this case, Rykanis was stalking, or spying on, a woman. She was the wife of a high standing akalak, who suspected her of cheating. And so he had brought the matter to the council. Telling of her leaving the house, going off mysteriously, and having a different excuse for were she had gone. And she seemed to disappear whenever he was at worked. He had checked in on her once as a surprise, and she had been gone.

Of course, this was little evidence, so instead of having to gather the full council on it, to question the woman, they had tasked Rykanis to follow her, and find out the truth of the matter.

That was why Rykanis found himself hiding early in the morning, before even the sun rose, as the said akalak left for his job. The akalak did not even notice as he walked past were Rykanis was hiding. He had found a good dark spot, were he was hard to see, but he could see out through a crack.

Now he had to wait for the woman to leave, whenever that might be... He had long since switched over to his other side, since he was more patient when it came to long waits like this.

He sat... For a chime... Two... Three... Nearly half a bell passed, before the woman in question finally came out... Looking around shiftily, making sure she was not seen by neighbors, as she went. She was clearly up to something, but Rykanis had no idea what.

He waited until she rounded a corner, and then slowly followed along behind, going after her.

But considering she was just a normal human citizen, she was pretty good at avoiding detection. He followed her, hunting her, stalking her, trying to keep out of distance.

But she had a few tricks. On her way to wherever she was going, she stopped to get a bite to eat. She went shopping for some new clothes real quick. She circled a street a few times.

It was really only a matter of time till she noticed that Rykanis was the same person that had been following her for so long. And then he would be made, and unable to continue... Besides the fact that she was good at losing and detecting a track, he had gathered no intel on her.

Finally, as she stopped to get a small loaf of bread to snack on, he had to fall back. If he kept close, he risked being detected to much.

He tried to keep her in sight, while being farther away.

But he lost her. She had rounded a corner, and was out of his sight line. By the time he caught up, she was gone. And she could have left in two directions. He chose going left, but even as he sped up, she was no were to be seen. She had lost him.

Resolutely, he headed home for the day. He would have to try and follow her again tomorrow.

59 Spring 512

Another day, another try. He had learned a bit yesterday, on the way she tried to get rid of tails... Or maybe she really was that random, stopped a lot, and took a round about route.

That thought had not even occurred to him before... He had just assumed, that since he spied, and knew the tricks to getting rid of a person tracking you, others might now similar skills... Maybe he was a bit paranoid... Well, he was definitely paranoid, though in his line of work it was a given...

But know he had another thing to conisder, she might not be expecting someone to tracking him. She might, and might in fact be trying to throw him off, but she also might not... That would have to be factored into how he did his work... Uncertainty... It always complicated things.

Regardless, he was up early that day, and at there house when the man left, sitting and hiding for a look at her leaving the house...

This time he had to wait a bit longer. It was a bell before she left, and he was starting to get cramped, in the position he was in for such a long time. Stake outs required a lot of patience, so once more his other side was in control. He was also better when it came to sneaking, and slowly following and not being seen...

She seemed to take a similar route today as she had the day before. Stopping at several places to browse, and getting a quick meal. But he was a bit better today at hiding were he would not be seen, since he had been able to spot out places the day before while following her.

Eventually he got again to were she was going around the corner... This time he knew, and hurried to catch up. Rounding the corner, she was out of sight... So this time he took the right way, instead of the left... And just managed to see her, as she disappeared into a building...

He followed, and closed in on the house... For it was a house, not a business... Perhaps this was the home of whomever she was seeing in secret? He might have actually stumbled upon it, just by following her. Two days of tracking, apparently well spent.

He crept up to one of the windows, careful to not be seen from inside, to look and see...

As he came to the window, which he know realized was open, he saw the scene before him, and was a bit surprised...

There certainly was no man. No men in the room at all. Instead it was a bunch of woman... Dancing?.. What the petch had he stumbled on?

The sound of laughter came out, as one person slipped, and was helped back to her feet. At the front of the room there was what he guessed the instructor, who was being copied by at least 4, maybe 5 woman... All trying to copy her dance moves... Apparently this woman was giving dance lessons, and using her home for it... And the woman he was following, was one of the people taking her lesson.

He just then noticed one woman sitting off in the corner, playing some kind of stringed instrument, the lilting sound coming out of the open window... "Dance to the music. Don't force it... You have to feel it! Move within the rhythm... "

Petch, the entire thing had been for nothing. This woman was not cheating, she was taking dance lessons. Well that was a bust. He was just starting to lower his head, and was going to head off to make his report, when he heard a clearing of the throat sound.

"Hem Hem! This is a private lesson. No peaking pervert!"

He looked up to see the instructor looking him right in the eyes, just a foot away from him. Petch she was fast and silent, he had not even heard her approach. He supposed dancing did help in some things.

As he stumbled at his words, and looked at the woman, he could not think of anything to say... Better to just let them think he was a pervert sneaking a look. He turned and ran, to the giggle of woman behind him, at the fact that he had been caught and chased off. Well that could have gone better.

Character: Rykanis Dakshata
Experience: Observation +4, Intelligence +2
Lore: Following a Mark. Loosing a Mark. Anticipating a Mark’s Actions. It’s not always what you think. Paranoia can be productive.

Additional Note: I would really like to see more detail in how you are going about things. You do a lot of ‘Rykanis is hiding.” But you don’t describe how you are hiding. By being more descriptive about what you are doing and what your thought processes are when you are doing so, you’ll earn fantastic XP every time. I do like the realism of how you failed to fully follower her all day the first attempt. That was a nice inclusion. I thought it was fantastic how it was dance lessons she was sneaking out for not to step out on her significant other.
