Kamrynn Sleightyr
Syliran Knight
Male Human/Vanthan (Mixed)
Age 19, 20th of Spring 491
9th Wing, Grey Company, 3rd Regiment, Silver Quadron.
In a nutshell:
He's a Knight in shining armor... with a whole mess of shortcomings. Trusting to a fault and painfully naive -what Kamrynn lacks in street smarts and experience, he makes up for with zeal and dumb luck. He strives with every fiber of his being to protect those around him and thwart the efforts of evil, but is quick to bite off more than he can chew.
Kam has always maintained an optimistic outlook on life, but since leaving the sheltered life of a Page and Squire, he's realizing quickly how terrible the real world is. Coming to grips with the fact that even his best efforts are doomed to have little impact on the evil in Mizahar is a realization that is slowly killing him.
Physical Description
Kamrynn is human -half Vanthan to be precise, with dark hair and light brown skin; he stands around 5'8" and weighs about 155 pounds. He has a smooth rounded face, and is incapable of growing even a sparse beared.
Being half Vanthan, his eyes only rarely shift colors, and in fact, are nearly always brown. His mother claimed that it was probably mostly due to him being born so far from their northern homeland and never seeing the northern lights his people so cherished. His eyes will still flicker though, in moments of intense feelings.
Personality
Kamrynn can be summed up in three words: naive, honest and chivalrous. It's easy to pull a fast one over Kamrynn, due to his trusting nature. Kamrynn has no racist bias, and in fact, aside from the obviously non human races (Jemoura for example) he isn't likely to even recognize that they aren't human.
He's compelled by a need to help others, to protect the innocent and the weak, and dreams of becoming a powerful Syliran knight who will bring order and safety back to the world. He can't watch idly when evil is being done or someone is suffering, and would stand against insurmountable odds to that end.
Unfortunately, his eagerness to help and his naive outlook on the world make him easily manipulated. He is trusting to a fault, especially when the fairer sex is involved. He has a strict code of ethics and is respectful to the gods. Kamrynn would lose a fight before attacking a man while his back is turned.
Culture
Kamrynn was raised in Syliras, and considers himself such, a fact his Vanthan mother lamented. He bears no gnosis of Morwen, as many Vanthan gain upon their coming of age, and in fact considers himself more appreciative of the twin gods of Lost Causes, Kelwyn.
Kamrynn is largely unfamiliar with Vanthan customs, but he speaks the language passingly well and appreciates both their food and art. It is a secret wish of his to one day visit the northern lands, learn about the Vantha and to see the northern lights.
Character History:
(Abridged for convenience!)
Kamrynn isn't open about his past; he grew up in Stormhold castle, training to become a knight like his father, who fell in battle when he was young. His mother fell ill when he was 17, but despite his efforts, he could do naught to save her.
With no other family in his life, his world became wholly consumed with his childhood friend and only connection to his past, Bii Veraia. His feelings for Bii grew, and eventually he asked her to go on a walk with him outside the walls of Stormhold at night, with the intention of confessing his feelings. He promised that nothing bad would befall her as long as he was by her side.
Alas, fate conspires against lovers, and the two were attacked by assailants unknown. Kamrynn was grievously wounded in the attack as he tried desperately to defend his sweet heart, but the young man stood little chance against the number of his attackers.
When they were found by the guard the next morning, Kamrynn barely clung to life, but Bii was lost. With his second failure to save a loved one, Kamrynn swore to redouble his training, so that he could ensure no innocent would ever suffer again and he would never lack the strength to protect.
Post Creation History
Kamrynn was Knighted shortly after his 18th birthday. His quest given to him by the WyndOak was to find the man who killed his father, and extract revenge.
In this task he failed, he successfully found the man, but he was unable to kill him. Kamrynn found his father's killer, who was sitting in his home making dinner. Kenth Veeral his name, and he had killed Kamrynn's father years ago in a skirmish -a war over food and resources.
Both Kamrynn's father and Kenth were struggling to put food on the tables of those waiting at home, and for this, Kamrynn could not find the man at fault. Though the man willingly accepted death, Kamrynn could not deliver, and he returned to the WyndOak a failure.
Ah, but that was the precise action the WyndOak desired of young Kamrynn: compassion. He was knighted the next day.
