Desthemond Basic Information Race: Symenestra Birthday & Age : 26? Spring? Gender: Male Languages Symenos: Fluent Common: Basic Appearance The best way to describe Desthemond's general appearance is Black and White. His skin is the pale, almost porcelain color characteristic of the Symenestran race. His hair is pitch black with no hint of color, and does not generally have much of a shine to it even direct sunlight. He doesn't give much care for it and it usually ends up in a simple shaggy, if not unruly, style. The eyes of the Symenestra are also found on him, being entirely dark but with a slight uncommon twinkle within them. His lips are fairly darkly tinted and frame a bright white smile of sharp teeth. His overall build is thin and not exactly muscular or manly, and standing at 6'3'' has the typical long arms of his race. Character Concept Many would describe Desthemond as "wrong." Contrary to the stereotypical nature of his race, he is very happy. There is never, in fact, a time when he is not smiling. Whether this smile is genuine or not is impossible to tell because he is generally extremely quiet, speaking only when necessary. He keeps his thoughts and feelings to himself, shrouding himself in a sort of eccentric mystery. This by no means gives him the characteristic of being shy, however. He is very open and outgoing, always curious and interested in what others around him are doing and treating others in a cheery, and sometimes childlike manner. Desthemond does of course have his weaknesses. He does not like to be touched by others and is very claustrophobic, specifically in large crowds (this also being contributed to by his fragile structure) to the point that he will do absolutely anything to avoid them. He also has a very strong passion for food, something he struggles with constantly because of his Symenestran digestion limitations. Many times he deals with not being able to eat delicious foods by simply keeping them for their smell. In a way it would seem Desthemond almost rejects his Symenestran heritage and identity. In addition to his cheery, social nature and longing for food, he is extremely pacifistic and always avoiding violence of any sort. His hand wrappings actually end with a sort of glove he created, which hide his long sharp nails. If it weren't for his constantly flashing of his sharp teeth, he could almost be mistaken for a very pale member of another race. It takes a lot for Desthemond to resort to violence, but it isn't impossible. His phobia of touching and crowds, if pushed to far, can cause him to go into a sort of hysterical fit. Character History Not much is known of Desthemond's past. Even to himself. This is the reason for his absence of a last name, as the only reason for his knowledge of his first name is a ribbon with it woven into the fabric. The general theory for this is that he was in a traumatic event that either caused him to lose all of his memory, or caused it to be repressed beneath his subconscious. His general attitude towards this is careless on the surface, but inside he is desperate to find any trace of his history. For a few seasons Desthemond had lived with a family of Symenestra. He had no memory of how he reached their home in Kalinor, only that he did. They looked down on him for his unusual nature and lack of general knowledge, but tolerated and took pity on him. He ended up in a sense "being raised" with their children, being re-taught basic lessons on working with fabric and plants. Despite his being around 10 years their senior Desthemond spend all of his time with those children, playing and laughing and running. He became another son to those parents. And he would have probably stayed forever. It was just a matter of time. The family had been suspicious of him for a long time. Sometimes they openly questioned whether he was Symenestra and not some mutant, half-breed, or some sort of imposter. They finally decided on a way to either prove his loyalty to his race, or break and expose him. Desthemond was to be sent on a harvest. When the father of the family told him he watched with utmost attention for any sort of reaction. Desthemond gave none. He smiled. He bowed. "Yes, sir." And he walked out. There was no question, no second thoughts, no goodbyes. Desthemond took his staff and ribbon, and ran away. Literally. He ran out of Kalinor as fast as he could and didn't stop. He spent the next few days going through forests and mountains, keeping off the ground and away from civilization climbing swinging and jumping through trees and on rock. When he finally stopped he had reached a coast. He spent the night on the beach that night, staring up at the stars, the smile never having left him. "Where to now?" He asked them. These days Desthemond is usual found wandering the city and picking up odd-jobs where he can. He wraps both his forearms and hands and his calves and feet in a thin grey, silky cloth, thick enough to keep things from touching him, but thin enough that it does not inhibit his Symenestran ability to "adhere" to surfaces.
