Character History - Pre-Creation Hadreck's beginning is not what many would call a typical or pleasant birth, for himself or his ill-fated mother. Hadreck's life is not what many would call simple or easy. Hadreck's life is not what any would call honorable or even living, but because of the path fate gave him, the Akalak had no choice, no will to fight.
Born in the Summer of AV 445, the Akalak child, Hadreck, was brought into the world of Mizahar and misery from his mother. She was a strong woman, human, and young, making it beyond a miracle that she even survived the birth, let alone several years of hardship to come. Yet, to understand who Hadreck is today, you'd have to know first, his mother (and even a sliver of the unmentioned father). She, before the impregnation of Hadreck, was a young Drykas woman who found herself constantly in bad situations, only to escape them for worse fates. On the Sea of Grass she dared the vast plains in attempt to prove to her family she could hunt just as well as any of her brothers, though when she was nearly mauled to death by Glassbeaks, it felt a miracle that she had been saved by another group of hunters, Akalak. They rescued the Drykas woman, but had no intention of ever freeing her. Nakivak, it was her fate now.
Needless to say, she recovered, she was claimed, and the Akalak that took her was one of two possible fathers to Hadreck. Being a mercenary by trade, hired by a merchant with a few other Akalak from riverfall, Hadreck's mother was brought along everywhere, he so desperately wanted a son born to him. This was without a doubt the worst idea the Akalak could have had, as she was the only female, young, strong, spry, and only too tempting after so long of looking at men and fish. She was raped by one of the Akalak others, the darker half they say gained advantage for just a few moments too long.
Rape followed by death lingered on the ship like a rancid disease, and everyone around felt the illnesses and sickness of it. After such an outbreak of violence on the ship, the Akalak (including Hadreck's mother of course) were abandoned where they docked, in Ravok, before sailing away never to be seen again. In Ravok, life turned into hell.
But, Hadreck was now in the works. Somewhere between the rape and murder and Hadreck's birth, Hadreck's father (the one assumed to be his true father) was taken by force and enslaved, along with the pregnant Drykas woman. It wasn't until Hadreck was born that life truly got difficult for everyone. Hadreck's father was nowhere to be found, probably murdered at the hand of the racist Ravokians, maybe killed when attempting to escape, who knows? Hadreck was born, and raised, in captivity like some animal.
For the next several decades, Hadreck would find himself separated from his mother, working about every possible job available, from sex slave (note, he wasn't even a man by Akalak standards at that age), to blacksmith's apprentice, to horse groomer, body guard for a wealthy merchant's family, a physical laborer, for a brief while he was a thug forced to extort money in Sunberth for his master, and the list goes on. With every passing year, Hadreck was given another scar, on his back, on his neck, on his pride, on his mind, regardless of where he got it, he was quickly being driven into a state of sorrow that few would ever understand. Misery and hatred were all he had, yet even the darker half of Hadreck was worn down, beaten, and submissive most of the time. From the ages of ten to fifty, there were less than a dozen truly violent outbreaks from the Dark Brother inside, though each time there was severe punishment for it.
At the age of forty, Hadreck found himself staring into the darkness of his locked room, somewhere in Ravok one again. It was there when he felt so down on himself and his life, he was toying with the thoughts of suicide. Never before had he considered this, because he knew that his mother, the strongest woman he'd ever known, never gave up, no matter how terrible her life became. She was likely dead now though, and Hadreck felt that it was only a blessing. He couldn't spend another forty years like this.
But he wouldn't have to... not exactly anyway.
It was that very sleepless night when his dark thoughts were soothed, calmed, and cast away by a simple brush of finger against his lips. In that room stood a woman, hooded and robed in silvery white, whose has were soft and kind. "I offer you an escape from your life. I have seen your work, I have seen your tears. Allow me to help you." Hadreck could not speak in that moment, but he felt himself nod vigorously, only too desperate to begone from this horrible lifestyle. And she gave him the best gift he had ever received since his mother gave him birth.
But, he was not free. Some say Nikali was not a kind goddess because she only made the worst of lives tolerable. Yet, Hadreck found her words to be true, her promise to fulfilled. He was no longer a slave like before, but found pleasure in pleasing his owners. It was, in all truth, a relief. Life was still hard, rough, back-breaking and full of beatings for failures, but never since had he considered taking his life, never since had he thought of escape, and never since had he done so well that even his owners, were thankful to have him.
Yet, his life of misery was far from over, it was the very family he was with, after a move once more to Sunberth, where his job was to guard the young woman, daughter to the merchant that had used Hadreck for so long..........
