Summer 20, 512...
On the Beach...

The Beach was something of his own personal get away. Anytime he wanted privacy or to escape from the world, he would come to beach and spend his time daydreaming or fishing. In this case, the fishing was slow. He had posted up his pole pinned in the sand and held in place by a number of rocks. The coast here was calm thanks to the crescent shape and like a fresh water bank, it sort of dropped off directly into the water as opposed to a gradual shallow decline. Thus while fish didn't normally swim too far into the coast, far enough to be caught from land at least, it made this little spot an ideal fishing area. It was only by coincidence that Seluj came here, as he wasn't himself conscious of the geographical advantage of the area he was at.

Fishing was less of a conscious effort with strategy and precise equipment, rather he just took what he could get, baited it, tossed it in the water and waited. If fate would have it he make a catch, he would make his best effort to pull it in. On a good day it would yield something about a fish an hour, and usually he could go into town and cut a deal with someone that could cook it to prepare the fish for him, or spend all the time in the world trying to brew up a fire and enjoy burnt fish meat. Either way, he was proud that he could almost feed himself regularly the past few days... but fishing gave him plenty of time to do other things, and one that was on his mind was the event that occurred a couple days before. He had used flux only a few times and his basic knowledge had a single purpose: to pull off otherwise difficult dance moves. Seduced or perhaps distracted by the idea of using flux for the ideal of becoming a warrior possible. This ended horrible into what was basically a flood of Lactic Acid.

Attempting to use flux to degrees in which his body wasn't prepared for or that he was prepared to control resulted in his first encounter with what people would call 'overgiving'. Learning this lesson the hard way, he would curiously begin to experiment by slowly and cautiously testing his own limits. Granted, this was all just something to do while he waited for something to catch the line. Knocking out two birds with one stone right?

His motivation was straight forward and he pondered long and hard over his past mistake. It turns out that his age old philosophy that 'pain is the best teacher' was far from wrong. His earlier experience with overgiving was so stressful that he would do almost anything to avoid experiencing it again. But he realized that last time he was also rather reckless. He had tried to take a giant bound instead of taking it slow an pacing himself. So that was exactly what he was going to do, he was going to attempt to use flux to within his person without even moving, just to get a hang of it, or at least become more accustom to the feeling of it all. He wasn't one to stay still usually, but some classic meditation would probably do him some good in this situation, and no better place or time to do some meditation then while fishing. This was the only time that he was actually physically still so it made perfect sense to him when the idea sparked in his head.

Flux itself was like a muscle in it's own right, though not necessarily a physical one. The more you worked it out, the more in-tune it because. What he needed to do is commit the actions of Flux to his muscle memory just like he would a dance move or step. It was easier said then done of course, as commonly it took overlearning to accomplish such a feat. That meant that he would have to not only learn and experiment, be re-learn repeatedly the material and practice repeatedly. Thus sitting down once and meditating on it wouldn't be nearly enough; but doing this every day for the next year? Now that might make a difference! Compared to other forms of magic flux had it's ups and downs. Unlike other personal magics where one is casting out what equates to bits and pieces of their own personal essence, Flux simply manipulated it within their own vessel, so that it was never really lost.

However the consequences of using flux to increase ones physical ability was unique as well. The human body didn't become somehow super human when using Flux. Rather, like a weapon, the body would be the medium from which the ability extended. However, without proper maintenance, or negligent misuse, a weapon can break. It was the same way with Flux. The Muscles, Bones, Joints, and Ligaments would be put under extreme stress if flux was misused, and while they healed if left to their own devises in a normal setting, when it came to magic use, ligaments and tendons could be broken and torn beyond what the body could heal. Of course this could even happen to an individual not practicing magic, but was far more likely.

Of course this wasn't something he had practical knowledge of. All Seluj knew currently is that it hurt like hell! And so, with his fishing pole propped up ready next to him and lure in the water he would set and give this "meditation" thing a try...
