First the miniature ship had to be finished. A dip in the brown paint and she did a quick fill-in of the outline of the body she'd done earlier. The ship was profiled against the sunrise, so it needed to look darker, more silhouetted against the light. A swish in the water, then a dab of black, and she was able mix into the brown and give it a more shadowed look. Using the very tip of the brush's bristles she very carefully spread it up into the parts of the masts that were to be visible.
Next came the sails. After cleaning her current brush in the water a bit more thoroughly, she switched it out for one just a small, but more flat. Plenty of white paint, and she swept up inside each of the outlines. There were there sails for the two main masts, larger ones at the bottom, each one smaller smaller as they went up. Two more smaller ones at the front, and a triangular one in back. Each stroke for these went down in a curve, small strokes with the tip of the brush to get the very edges. She was fairly generous with the amount of paint each sail got, making sure none of it was put on too thin, as these needed to be shadowed as well. Once the shapes were there she could add in a dab of black again. It had to be mixed thoroughly, and each ended up a deep grey, dark like the body had been but also with enough white in it that it gave the appearance that the sails were just a little see-through.
Leaning back a little she looked at the ship as a whole. It wasn't supposed to be very detailed, needing to contrast with the detail of the larger picture it was to be "hanging in." Due to this, the ship itself was done, save for a flag waving at the top of the second larger mast. Wart bit her lip. She decided to let Tock decide on what color/mini design it would hold, being as this was, after all, her wall. It might have seemed to others an insignificant detail compared to the whole piece, but it was details like that that seemed to really make things like this that much more special. After all it was a flag. It was only fitting that it somehow reflect the owner.
Another wash of her brush and she switched it for a larger, rounder one. This she dipped into the blue and dabbed to the left of and under the ship. A wash and she added slightly larger dabs of white next to it. These she mixed together, sweeping and spreading it to the sides, curving the brush strokes to create waves. The water needed to be light in color. Again, were this the more detailed part of the painting, she would take the time to shade the waves and add the golden touches of sunlight on the tips. For now, it just needed to simple. To accentuate the brush strokes, however, she did add just a touch of white to the waves, making sure not to blend it into the rest of the water.
A quick step back and she nodded, satisfied so far. Wart gestured to Tock. "Kay if you wanna do the sky o'er here, I can start on the right side of the frame o'er here. S' more like that gold-yellow-blue kin'a sunrise, not the fiery orange sunset sorta look, y'know?." As she moved over to give her room, her mind thought back to the sight she'd admired that morning. After a second thought she added "Oh ya, an' that flag there, that's all yours."
