Wart listened to Tock give out directions and nodded, a small smile at the authority she commanded. Huh maybe we'll get this done after all. "A'right." Setting herself up in front of the clean spot she'd pointed to, Wart popped the lids off of each of the little jars of paint on her belt. She then twisted it so that one slightly larger jar, filled with clean water, was on her left hip. In her right hand she held each of her different sized brushes, in her left whichever brush she was painting with. Picking out a smaller, thin brush, she started.

First the miniature ship had to be finished. A dip in the brown paint and she did a quick fill-in of the outline of the body she'd done earlier. The ship was profiled against the sunrise, so it needed to look darker, more silhouetted against the light. A swish in the water, then a dab of black, and she was able mix into the brown and give it a more shadowed look. Using the very tip of the brush's bristles she very carefully spread it up into the parts of the masts that were to be visible.

Next came the sails. After cleaning her current brush in the water a bit more thoroughly, she switched it out for one just a small, but more flat. Plenty of white paint, and she swept up inside each of the outlines. There were there sails for the two main masts, larger ones at the bottom, each one smaller smaller as they went up. Two more smaller ones at the front, and a triangular one in back. Each stroke for these went down in a curve, small strokes with the tip of the brush to get the very edges. She was fairly generous with the amount of paint each sail got, making sure none of it was put on too thin, as these needed to be shadowed as well. Once the shapes were there she could add in a dab of black again. It had to be mixed thoroughly, and each ended up a deep grey, dark like the body had been but also with enough white in it that it gave the appearance that the sails were just a little see-through.

Leaning back a little she looked at the ship as a whole. It wasn't supposed to be very detailed, needing to contrast with the detail of the larger picture it was to be "hanging in." Due to this, the ship itself was done, save for a flag waving at the top of the second larger mast. Wart bit her lip. She decided to let Tock decide on what color/mini design it would hold, being as this was, after all, her wall. It might have seemed to others an insignificant detail compared to the whole piece, but it was details like that that seemed to really make things like this that much more special. After all it was a flag. It was only fitting that it somehow reflect the owner.

Another wash of her brush and she switched it for a larger, rounder one. This she dipped into the blue and dabbed to the left of and under the ship. A wash and she added slightly larger dabs of white next to it. These she mixed together, sweeping and spreading it to the sides, curving the brush strokes to create waves. The water needed to be light in color. Again, were this the more detailed part of the painting, she would take the time to shade the waves and add the golden touches of sunlight on the tips. For now, it just needed to simple. To accentuate the brush strokes, however, she did add just a touch of white to the waves, making sure not to blend it into the rest of the water.

A quick step back and she nodded, satisfied so far. Wart gestured to Tock. "Kay if you wanna do the sky o'er here, I can start on the right side of the frame o'er here. S' more like that gold-yellow-blue kin'a sunrise, not the fiery orange sunset sorta look, y'know?." As she moved over to give her room, her mind thought back to the sight she'd admired that morning. After a second thought she added "Oh ya, an' that flag there, that's all yours."

OOC :
Here's a positively awful sketch of the basic look for the "mini-ship painting." For clarification. :P

Tock cast a scowl at the three lazy bludgers when they sat down to eat. She grumbled under her breath, then told them, "Oy, dodgers, 'at side o' the wall done better been cleaned 'fore we gets 'ere, aye?" At least Kaeson had brought some water back. Though he only seemed to be sharing his food with the two blondes. She cast an extra glare his way, shaking her head in disgust.

Then she followed after Wart, letting the artist lead the design while she backed her up. She started detailing the flag with a fine-tipped brush, since it was such a tiny space to work in. She didn't give a second thought to what the flag would look like... Zeltiva was her home, so she painted the same symbol on it that graced the Zeltivan ships down in the harbor.

She spent quite a bit of time on the flag alone, making sure it stood out in better detail than the rest of the 'painting within the painting'. The flag was a symbol that should be kept in focus. She stood close to the wall, squinting to keep her poor eyesight in focus, tracing out each line with a fine tipped brush that was almost like drawing with a quill. She traced the brush with delicate care to outline the entire sigil, and colored in the flags with short, quick strokes of a thin, flat brush.

When the flag was complete, she had to work on mixing colors together to get the idea of the sunrise Wart wanted. Though she wasn't so good at that part. She double checked the mixture with Wart several times until she got the right golden hue, then brushed it in broad strokes across the painting's horizon. Closer to the sun she laid the paint on thicker, sweeping each stroke away from the sun to give the blend of color a more natural appearance of radiating from that point. As she got further away she switched to a lighter shade, letting it overlap the darker gold at first to blend the colors for a gradual fade. Then the further away she got, the lighter of a shade she used, trying to make the fading effect as natural as she could with her limited skills.

Around the furthest edges of the sky she painted on a light blue to show the morning sky. Though she wasn't sure how to blend that with the yellow without winding up with an out of place green. So she brushed the blue right up to the edges for now, leaving it to Wart to decide if she wanted to try a more skilled transition than Tock could handle.

The Konti continued to scrub the wall. There wasn't much going on but the cleaning so Iris had nothing to say to anyone else. She just minded her own business and did her own thing.

Making friends this early on wasn't a bad idea. When someone traveled to another place that's what they wanted. A few friends to start off. Luckily Iris had found what she thought was a kind set of people. One of the people(Tock) spoke differently but that was the beauty of meeting new people. Not everyone was the same.

The Konti was interested, and she didn't know if she'd be offended by asking Tock about her speech. But she went for it anyways and disregarded the feelings of the woman. "So, Tock, where do you come from? You have a unique way of speaking. May I ask what language you speak?"

Kaeson snorted, "Oy, dodgers, 'at side o' the wall done better been cleaned 'fore we gets 'ere, aye?" he muttered underneath his breath, angrily biting into his fish.

Grabbing a wet cloth, Kaeson lazily began to scrub a small portion of the wall. He did this pointedly, occasionally glancing at Tock and Wart. Cleaning wasn't Kaeson's ideal way of spending a summer afternoon, and even more so spent in the the Zeltivan heat. Dipping his cloth in the bucket of water, Kaeson leisurely made his way back to the dirty wall -- Iris and Nai'shee were both seemingly fine scrubbing the day away. Kaeson was not.

"Oy, dodgers," Kaeson said, mimicking Tock, "Why don't you let us have a go with painting?" He asked, gesturing to him and the two blondes. "You two can eat," he added as an afterthought, pointing at two smoked fish and some dried apples.

The girl simply ignored her friend's comment. She was hungry. She will finish eating in few minutes anyways, judging by how unhealthily fast she ate. She found it funny how Kaeson was angry at them. She didn't really hold any side, since the whole matter was unimportant, but she enjoyed watching him nervous. He always acted like that around Tock. Perhaps, her philosophy of 'dodgers' would freak out anyone who had anything smarter to do than helping out every time Tock's in sight. Nai'shee didn't, tho, or at least she wasn't willing to do it at the moment, since it mostly involved library.

As soon as she put the last piece in her mouth she took the cloth, continuing to scrub the wall. It was a boring job, but it occupied her enough not to feel bored. She also took some time to think about meaning of the life, concluding that she really has to find a better job. Maybe she could assist Tock? If she remembers well, the woman offered her that job anyways, and she learned the basics.

As she opened her mouth to speak, Kaeson asked if they could try drawing while two artists rested.

"I don't know", she replied before they could. "I don't want to ruin it", she said, glancing at the architecturally correct boat with carefully painted flag of Zeltivan sailors and the beginningsI guess Tock timeskipped. of water and sunset above.

That wasn't for her, she realized. She won't be some carver or architect or builder, much less animator. She is going to become a sailor, no matter what. And upon reaching that goal she won't confuse herself in such a job, watching her life pass by.

"But maybe you could show us how to paint sometime, on piece of parchment or something", she added.

Wart took out a black piece of chalk from her back pocket. It was thin and hard, and would come out very light. At this point she decided she'd better map out the basic layout of the more detailed part of the painting before just going for it. This was the part that she really wanted perfect. As rash and abrupt as her personality was, her artwork was not something she took such chances with. In between starting this she would check up with Tock, helping her out with shading and coloring specifics.

She started with the frame of the painting, using careful time and precision to keep the width and length of every side consistent. Next the window. It would be to the left of this, a round porthole of sorts. She used her entire arm in making one long sweeping circle, then using some more sweeps to make it more exact and circular. After this she repeated the process, drawing the inside of the window's frame. Some small circles for bolts, and she stepped back to make sure it was right. Her eyes shifted from the painting to the window, her hand in her hair, debating whether the horizons should line up or not. Just then Kaeson, spoke up.

Wart turned and looked at him blankly, her thoughts still on her work. Any other time she might have scoffed at his offer, maybe expressed the insult within his use of "have a go" when speaking of such an intricate work, and probably flat out went off on him for thinking he could take on such a thing when it was so obvious to her that he couldn't be trusted with such a thing. As it was she hardly heard what he had even said, but only saw his gesture to the food. With a nod Wart walked over, picked up a fish, and brought it back with her. She ate it without a thought, probably looking a bit like Nai'shee had.

Now facing the wall again she nodded to herself. She'd have to include a fish in the moldings somewhere. The frame? The wall? She wasn't planning to include the bottom of it, so that may or may not work, perhaps the table leg... Then she remembered the... babies? following Tock. Still not quite able to pull her attention away enough to know what everyone was actually doing or even saying and a mouth still full of a ripped off bite of fish she turned and asked "Hey, uh, Tock, you know 'nything bout carvin' wood?"

OOCKaeson has informed me that he's away for a bit due to irl issues. He suggested skipping him for now in our threads. So until he gets back, we should move on without him this round, and it'll go: Iris, Nai, Wart, Tock. Then when he gets back, he can jump in out of order wherever he wants to.

"Oy, Bludger!" Tock snapped at Kaeson, shaking a paint brush at him. "Dun give me no lip! Nobody done told ya what as ya can't paint nothin'! Jus' go grab yer brushes, an' git 'er done!" She walked over and grabbed a piece of fish, eating with one hand while continuing to paint with the other. She didn't usually take breaks. She could do two things at once.

"Bloody whiney fool man what can't think fer 'imself," she muttered under her breath as she got back to work. As if SHE were the boss of him! If he took some initiative and started working on his own, instead of standing there staring at all the pretty girls, then she wouldn't have HAD to order him around!

She then turned to Iris and snapped, "I's from right 'ere!" she pointed at the house. "'Is's my bloody 'ouse, aye? An' I's bloody speakin' common, whazzer, gots sommat stuck in yer ears?" She hated it when people got on her about the way she talked.

Nai's request soothed her somewhat. Unlike Kaeson, who got snippy with her and acted like she wasn't letting him paint (like she took the brush out of his hand or something!), Nai politely asked to be taught. Tock gave her a nod and a grin and said, "Aye, Conch. I's teach ya whatever ya want, aye? I ain't what the greatest painter, but I's always glad fer ta teach ya some stuff."

She stepped back for a moment while Wart was outlining everything and concentrating on her work. She was rather cute when she was focused on a project. It was a fleeting thought, quickly forgotten. No reason to think anything would ever come of it.

Her attention was instead drawn to the painter's request for woodcarving. Tock's face broke into a wide grin. "Oy, Conch, I done been carvin' wood what since I were 'is big," she said, holding her hand out below her waist. "I's a prof'ssional. Whatcha need? I's git 'er done!"

Iris finished cleaning her side of the wall. It was something different, but in her short(would be long by human standards) life she hasn't really done much work like this. Dropping the rag Iris faced Tock again.

"Stop kidding around Tock, I have an accent too. It's not all that bad. Seriously, what land did you come from? Your way with words is unique I wouldn't mind studying the language."

The healer had no clue that Tock really wasn't playing. But that's only because Iris hasn't ever had an encounter with anyone who spoke like Tock. So that lead her to believe Tock was from a far away land that Iris had never heard of.

Iris needed something else to do, she stood there listening to Tock give orders. It was nice how she had command over so many people. Iris wanted to know what type of community she had to come from to be able to take such charge with everything.

"What's your homeland community like, Tock?"

The Konti's heavy accent made some of her common words hard to understand. She thought she knew exactly how Tock felt about the situation.

Nai quickly got back on cleaning the wall, trying to reach the part she should already be on. With Iris' help it didn't take much. Thinking about it, she never saw paining on a wall, except in shrines and similar stuff. Maybe somewhere at University, but it was mostly decorated in marvelous carvings. She hope this won't lure out some scum assuming Tock paid for the painting and had money. Not that she thought the woman couldn't defend, tho.

When she spoke up at Kaeson again Nai bit her lip. She really gave him some though time on this. He was acting a bit... untockily, but he wasn't really making crucial mistakes. She tried to give him supportive shrug. She wasn't really feeling like speaking up for him, which she would usually do, since Tock was right in most of the matters, she was just overdoing it. And explaining meaning of word 'overdoing' to Tock would be a real task. She should maybe pick out the whole date to spend doing it.

Listening to Iris' questions Nai was more and more frightened. Tock didn't tell her she was from Sunberth, but she already noticed she didn't like to talk about her origin one bit. Much less her accent. She tried to tell Iris to stop with gestures, but Konti probably didn't look that way, as she continued to ask things. Nai'shee sighed. Well, she was somewhat curious too. She knew Tock wasn't born in Zeltiva, although she already fitted in like a piece of a puzzle.

"Thanks, Tock", she replied shortly at the next comment about painting, wondering if she'll have time at all.

Wart turned and smiled at Tock's response. As rude and prideful as she came off, she readily accepted and appreciated the dedication of the art forms of others. Especially when it came to a particular subject she herself had little experience on.

"A'right, well see - shyke…" Quickly she moved to the side and drew a light, rough sketch of the table that would be in the corner of the "cabin." The width was straight but the width of it set at a diagonal angle. The thickness was a few inches, only a simple leg visible in the top right corner. When she finished she moved back to Tock's side and gestured towards it, finishing her request. It was probably obvious to anyone that she had no knowledge of tables or working with wood, as the whole layout was incredibly basic.

"So see here'sa' table o'er here, and then s' a whole wood wall an' wood frame for the painting. 'F you're a captain you're gonna want some carvin's, make it look good, fish, waves, y' know but where would you carve it 'n how?"

ooc :
I apoligize for another poorly skilled sketch, and maybe no one needs/wants to see it but I'm ridiculously visually oriented (and probably bad at explaining images from my head) so...
