If it's possible to get negative status points in Zeltiva, I think Wart's going to end up with quite a few.

XD Tock you're amazing.
Although I was thinking more along the lines of terrorizing innocent civilians, but I suppose its only fair that poor needle deserves some point reduction too...

I didn't understand a thing you guys said when you switched to spanish. I'm not even sure I was able to understand it even in english! Haha! That's what I get for taking Japanese instead of Spanish as my second language.

Gale I know exactly what you mean.
I live in a dominantly Hispanic town, and everywhere I go I run into people having conversations in rapid Spanish around me.
I know enough to make bare minimum basic conversation, but that's about it. I usually just end up standing there awkwardly hoping they don't talk crap about me or something XD

I know JUST enough to know when someone is talking crap about me.

Once I worked a summer at McDONALD'S (Why does Autocorrect put that in all caps?). The whole kitchen staff was Spanish, except they knew English words for "hamburger" or "six piece nuggets," etc.

I'm very shy, and don't talk much in public. So I was quiet, working alongside them without joining in the conversations. But I understood every word they said. And they tended to trash talk the whole English speaking part of the crew. And no one knew when they were doing it, except me.

One day, I had enough. When one of them said something smart-assed, I replied with, "Cayate, bruta! Yo comprende sus palabras..."

Tee hee ^.^

Bahahaha that is beast! (I love the capital McDonalds it makes it sound so exciting)

Someone in one of my computer classes was really pro in Spanish (well at least as far as I could tell) but she didn't quite look like she would be (she's more light Native American than Hispanic in complexion). She went into a Subway for a job interview and they had her sit at these chairs, and these two guys sitting there tell her in Spanish that she couldn't sit there and then start laughing and making fun of her. Hehe she let them go on for a while and then went ooofff on them (I wish I knew what she said but I have no idea) and they just sat there silent the rest of the time. Knowing how many of the people here speak broken "spanglish" they probably didn't even know a lot of what she said either.

I've always wanted to learn either Korean or Mandarin Chinese so I could go into one of the local manicure places and understand what they're saying... I swear they're talking about me half the time...

What you described has happened to me on more than one occasion Wart.

I get mistaken for being half-asian or straight up not latina at all because I don't "look" latina, although latinos in general are not homogenized and are instead a mixture of every race. So claiming they all look a certain way is a big pet peeve of mine. Which is why I get angry when fellow hispanics (not puertoricans, they all know I'm puertorican), assume I don't know spanish and then start talking sh*t in spanish as if I don't understand.

And then I introduce myself with my entirely stupidly long spanish name, proclaim where I come from and thank them for putting a good name for hispanics everywhere. :P

Sorry, went on a tangent there, I shall give you back your scrap. <3

Lol, people should always be careful what they say about each other in another language. My boss at the restaurant I work in is Greek. All the management is greek (It's a chain that is all owned by extended family). They talk about people in Greek right in front of you ALL the time.

But after working for them for 6 years, I've managed to pick up some words, like "him" and "her", and most of the curses, and enough little things to get the context of what they're bitching about.

Hehe Naama that just made my day ^.^
And hey I enjoy tangents they're fun :P

It's actually kind of funny, I fall victim to pretty much the opposite situation. My last name is Spanish in origin and my extended family makes up a good size portion of the city's population, so people expect me to be fluent in Spanish and in Hispanic culture. What's great is that, unlike my other siblings, I got my overall appearance from my mother's side, which is entirely European, so that's always a surprise for them. And then I'm a sad nervous beginner in the language of course so that's even better. And to top it all off, I can't tolerate spicy foods whatsoever. -.-

I agree with you Tock, "With great power language fluency comes great responsibility."
