Summer 513, Day 3...
Near Midnight...
World's End Grotto was one of the more popular places in all of Zeltiva, and Seluj tended to keep away from it for the fact that many travelers stayed here. For whatever reason he wasn't a big fan of 'tourists' or outsiders from Zeltiva, but that was most likely a result of him living here his entire life. The idea that the world might actually be bigger and more complicated then his relatively peaceful home was something that was better off just avoided by the man that was by all definitions a free spirit. Without a formal home or cottage, he made any place his residence. He made a living as a performer and danced and entertained to bring joy to others and gold to his pockets. And so it was only natural that when the World's End Grotto was playing host to a party to bring in the summer, that he himself would want to be there! The free drinks alone were enough to interest him, as even though he himself wasn't much of a drinker, he knew well that the dizzy mind of a drunk men is much easier to influence and much more loose with his coin. Stirring up some excitement would be easy, as all those here would be already festive and ready for a good time.
Though he assumed the party was also to help those forget the past seasons tragic storms, the annual event would be a time were people from all creeds and classes would come together in the same place as 'Zeltiva'. It was exciting to Seluj just to see people of other races, as the vast majority of Zeltivans were human. Everything from sailors at the docks, sprayed with the scent of sea salt from a hard days work and sweat to the upper class academics that spend their noses in books reading at the university would be here, mingling as a single entity. It was a rare occasion indeed. The festivities would last for as long as their were still wake and able men to carry them out, or for as long as there was still booze that could be provided for free! It was no doubt that many people would wake in the morning with a headache full of regret and empty pockets, and while Seluj enjoyed a good jig, he also enjoyed the sentiment that came with emptying those pockets FOR the men and women at the party. It was a win-win situation!
By the time he had arrived it was midnight. A crowd of individuals had filled the courtyard and were mingling and laughing and well, being merry as it were. The voices of men traveled from one side to the other as few were shy of being too loud or making too much noise. Torches were posted evenly about and lanterns were cast above with care so that the area itself was moderately well lit, and to top it all off, the moon shown with a light that added an odd twilight to the atmosphere. With the several flickering lights of fire, shadows cast in every which direction on the floor and danced among themselves and each other. If it weren't a party it would be something of a spooky affair, Seluj thought. He looked about the courtyard to those playing instruments on one side, providing a backdrop of noise and distractions for the ears for those who weren't engaged in conversation, yet no one seemed to be dancing yet...
That was his target!
He made his way into the crowd and slowly, casually scoped things out. There was an art to this you know! Bringing hardened men and conservative women to set aside their inhibition and for a few moments dance around as if they were in their youth was a difficult task indeed! But if anyone was right for the job, it was Seluj!
Perhaps he would have a drink after all...
