West Street is an echo of a bygone era of posterity and prosperity where the day to day survival that occupies the mind of the average man gives way instead to an obsession with class, respectability, and above all cash. A road of shops and salesmen, where the mercers have mercenaries and the boot makers have bodyguards and the only sort of clientele that are welcome are those with pockets lined with mizas. Most famous for its thriving cloth trade, West Street is filled with the sorts of establishments that cater only to those with few worries in life that rank higher than how they are viewed by others. Down one stretch a row of tailors compete fiercely for business, selling silk and velvet at prices exorbitant enough to feed a family in the poorer parts of the city for a great deal of time. One particular cobbler lays claim to the questionable boast of designing the shoes for every member on the Board of Regents. If you know the right people, or want to meet them, West Street is where to go.
The street is not, however, located in the western half of the city, its name instead being a blithe reference to its utter abhorrence of the sorts likely to cavort in East Street, a road that is in fact to the north of West Street but due to its notoriety for cheap and cheerful sleaze, along with the frequency of gambling establishments and unrepentant brothels, signifies everything about which the patrons of West Street purport to despise in respectable company. The street’s original name is, now, lost to time but despite its somewhat confusing nomenclature it is arguably the best place in the city to find worthy attire for the discerning gentleman or lady. In order to reach the street itself one need only look south of the Market Road, safely upwind of the pungent scents and smells of the fish market, though one can never completely escape the aroma of the sea in the city of Zeltiva. West Street reaches from the area of the Market Road dedicated to the sale of vegetable goods round to rejoin the road further up in the city.
Amongst its more iconic establishments are The Boot Boutique, the tailors Gadderjack, Gadderjack and Bon and The Elegant Lady’s Hosiery.
