Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Ayanna saw how he examined her, and her eyes were locked on his face as he did. Anxious to see if he'd flinch, scowl or show any sign of disgust.
Her smile spread through her whole face, just the slightest flash of teeth showed through though. She was aware that people didn't like her fangs. But still a little of her white teeth flashed. She was very pleased, few people could look at her for the first time and not look shocked.

Her small nose scrunched at the mention that there were few places where everyone was rude and boring. There had been places where most people had been rude though, so it meant she couldn't tell if any of them were interesting. She smiled again when he asked if he was nice and interesting. And was that a playful tone she heard? She smiled and tapped a black claw against her rosebud lips and acted like she was considering the question.
"Hm, I don't know... You seem nice. And maybe you are a little interesting..." she spoke with the same playful tone and for the first time she noticed the man could be taken by some as handsome. Once you got over the fact that he was a giant. Like seriously, could he accidentally step on a child? Or a small dog? She looked down him, at his full form. The man had a good amount of muscle on his body, a warrior probably. Her eyes trailed over his muscled arms and she gulped, knowing he would have no problem with killing her bare handed. Her hands clenched slightly and she forced herself to calm down, he hadn't shown any signs of being aggressive. She had no reason to think he would hurt her...

Aya suddenly found herself wishing Kirmir was with her. Her eyes flicked around, furtively searching for the Kelvic she knew wasn't there. He was back at the Inn, sleeping. She had insisted he let her go out alone today because she wanted to explore. He had agreed. She looked at teh man and her body relaxed, he didn't look mean or angry. he probably wasn't going to attack her.

Kir's pessimism is getting to me. Good gods I need to calm down. And be nice! this man has been kind to me, I shouldn't repay that with suspicion!! she admonished herself and gave the man a nice smile, as if to prove to herself she was going to be nice. And she forced herself to look at him as a person not a threat, as a person he was quite handsome. With those muscles, his eyes and that hair...

Hm perhaps Riverfall wasn't half bad if it was full of good looking men...

"Thats a good outlook to have in this world. If you ever go traveling you won't have too hard of a time..." She observed from his statement. And it was true, if you were willing to accept others and to not be easily frightened by everything you wouldn't make a half bad traveler.

"No I didn't say. I wouldn't mind to learn how to use a knife perhaps, or to learn about Akalak culture. Could you show me around? I'm afraid I've gotten lost today and I'm not sure where anything is." The last part she said with obvious relief. She had a sense of direction, you needed one to travel the lands, but this city was a bit confusing. She had been heading north and then suddenly she was facing west. These streets never went straight to where she wanted them to go, they had all these twists and turns and dead ends.

[Knirin Gardens] Lurking in Trees [Rykanis Dakshata]

Postby Rykanis Dakshata on July 3rd, 2012, 4:28 am

Rykanis simply smiled as she playfully spoke back, pretending like she was pondering her words. He did not mind joking around, and teasing a bit. Deep down he was being cautious, and knew to be careful, but he knew showing it was no way of learning anything.

Attracting flies with honey and all that.

And she thought he would do well as a traveler... Well, maybe some day he would head out of the city, leave and investigate new places. Meet new people. But not yet. He planned to wait till he had a decent bit of money saved up, and was a lot better skilled. He was cautious, due to his other side, and he wanted to be able to take on anything that might cause him trouble, should he run into it.

Wanting to know how to wield a knife, and about his culture... Well, he certainly knew a lot more about the former. He supposed there were places to learn the latter, such as the academy. Though it was hard to say what kind of reception she would receive there.

"I could certainly show you around. I know the streets pretty well. And if you want to learn how to fight, well there are few places better than the Sasaran. I frequent both of them, the one for unarmed, and armed combat. I am sure you could get some practice in there. As for learning of Akalaks, and our culture, there is the academy. Though it is a bit more difficult to learn there, than it is to train in the Sasaran's."

Rykanis looked at her, a bit surprised that she wanted to learn to use a blade... Really, considering how fragile he had heard Symenestra were, he was surprised.

"If you want, I could take you to learn to use a blade. I myself am skilled with my lakan, which is not to far different from a dagger. Though it might not be the best place for you, as Akalaks tend to spar a bit rough."

As he mentioned his lakan, Rykanis patted the one in its sheath, attached to his belt. He never left home without it. He would feel odd really if it was not near.

[Knirin Gardens] Lurking in Trees [Rykanis Dakshata]

Postby Ayanna on July 6th, 2012, 1:40 am

Ayanna gave him another smile in return for his, finding herself liking this man. Something that was fairly new for the woman. He seemed to ponder the things she wanted, she knew it was odd for her to want to know how to wield a knife, seeing as if a fight ever got to close quarters she should already assume herself dead. But still, an extra precaution wouldn't be a bad idea. Although she should really practice her own weapons and become more competent in them first before she took up another weapon. Better to be great at one weapon than satisfactory at an assortment of them.

Where did she hear that saying? Was it her brother? No, it was her mother who told her that. Her mother who specialized in the Lash. She supposed she should follow that advice, she could hit a target, but not the bullseye, and moving targets weren't the easiest thing to hit.

Aya smiled when he said he'd show her around, a guide! Finally! Perhaps she could see if he could show her how to wield a blade, or just for her to get some Lash practice in. Seeing as it was the only weapon she had on her. Perhaps she could ask the man to take her back to the inn and she could grab her long bow as well.

She pondered the academy, most schools didn't like her kind even if they had interesting information. They also seemed to like it better if you planned to stay long enough to take a full class rather than to just ask all your questions then be on your way.

"I would like that very much, but is there also a place I could practice archery, and would these practice grounds work for most middle ranged weapons as well for practice? And perhaps you could simply show me how to use the blade, rather than sparring with me?" she inquired. She looked down at the knife he called a 'Lakan'. She hoped she would be able to sharpen her own skills and perhaps learn some dagger work, maybe she could even translate it into claw work. After all claws were not that much different, there were just more of them. Ayanna pondered this as she climbed down the tree with the ease of her race. She stood on the ground, a good two feet shorter than the taller Akalak. And again she found herself wondering if he could accidentally step on her.

She also felt the oddest urge to climb this man, he was so tall her matched several saplings in height, but with the with of an older tree. Perhaps she should become better friends with him and sue him for transportation. At the thought of her riding on the man's shoulder she let out a small giggle. It was a funny image without a doubt.

She smiled and shook her head, pulling her hood back on so others would not stare at her and motioned for him to take the lead, seeing as she had no idea where anything was.

[Knirin Gardens] Lurking in Trees [Rykanis Dakshata]

Postby Rykanis Dakshata on July 6th, 2012, 2:11 pm

Archery? To be honest, Rykanis did not know much of that. Archery was not as big of a thing in Riverfall, since it tended to favor close combat, whether armed or unarmed. There really was not any designated ranged training place.

"To be honest, there isn't really a training area for ranged weapons and combat. I suppose we could go out of the city a bit, to train, away from people, but really, there is nothing set up. I assume some people do use bows and such, for hunting, but we would need to get out of town so we don't risk hitting anyone, or anything of worth."

As for her next words, to simply show her how to use a weapon? Rykanis laughed out loud at that. You could not learn to use a weapon, without using it!
That was like telling someone to learn to ride a horse, simply by watching someone else do it. Sure you would pick up some things, but without doing it, you would learn little.

"No, I cannot. How can you expect to learn to use a blade, if you do not actually use it? Just showing you would teach nothing. You must hold it in your hand, feel its weight, learn how to wield it, actually cross blades with another. If you cannot even do that in the safety of training, how do you expect to do so, in a real combat situation, were someone is trying to break or kill you."

As she came down, and motioned for him to take the lead, well he was not really certain were to go. He would have to wait for her answer.

"I will lead the way, as soon as I know were we are going! Since there seems to be issues, with both of the things you have asked. So were is it that you want to go? Though if we do go out of the city, to work on the bow, I would not mind trying it out a bit. A quick lesson with bows might be useful."

Additional Note: Ayanna, no more CENTERED posts. I will not grade any more after this one. Yuck! But, that being said I loved how you stayed true to your Sym roots by resting in a tree. I thought that was a nice touch. Rykanis you were nice and polite, but I would have throttled her in thread. Snarky strangers don't deserve to be offered bladework!
