    Imagedescription

Throughout the day, Leonis is a creature with gilded, iridescent skin in gradient shades of sunrise; carnation hues, golden tones, oranges and ambers. He stands tall, at a base height of six foot two, further extended by the sweeping glassy horns that make up nearly eight inches. His body is immaculate, devoid of any scars and blemishes and his physique mirrors one that has been toned and hardened over the long years.

When the sun sets, Leonis becomes a man visibly ambiguous. His mixed ancestry tones his hair a dark, nearly ebon black, with striking green eyes peppered by shades of blue. He's a tanned individual, with a myriad of scars visible along his legs, abdomen and back, and sports a splash of windmarks running down the entire length of his left arm and shoulder blade.

    concept

At one time, Leonis was an unnamed, divine creature full of melancholy thoughts of the celestial realm he lost. He scorned others and was a man of little words, spending his days alone, citrine gaze raised skyward, with nothing but the comfort of his Lady's warm rays to ease his mind until Leth began his routine reign.

For many years this ethaefal remained like this; alone. A wanderer who lacked the capability to correctly socialize with these people who remained a mystery to him. This was another age and another time, this was a world in which he did not belong, but a world full of curiosities nonetheless. He began to travel, beyond the realm of forests and mountains, into the cities that held the people he had, until then, avoided.

ImageIt was in the city of Syliras during the year of 442AV that the ethaefal came upon an old man seated outside his home with an array of beautiful maps laid about his feet. His curiosity could not be contained, and he fawned over the swirls of colors and strokes of ink that marked these words he'd never learned to read. The man introduced himself as Aratoth, an experienced cartographer. Through him, the ethaefal learned to read, to draw and to work. He learned the value of respect and social courtesies. He learned to view the world as a canvas unfurling itself in his midst; to look upon it as a work of art to record for the sake of guiding those who wish to explore it further.

Over time, Aratoth came to regard this young ethaefal as a son, and named him Leonis, after his own child, long since deceased. It was fifteen years before Aratoth finally passed, leaving Leonis alone once again. But he was a different man now. A man changed. He'd become altruistic, with a curiosity that could never be sated. He lived for his Goddess, and for Aratoth, whom taught him the joy of friendship and family, the love of cartography and the desire to do good in this world that was so often plagued by misfortune.

Although not wholly benevolent, Leonis is an incredibly patient man, and is notably difficult to anger. If at all possible, he will avoid conflict, choosing instead a choice of peaceful negotiation. Some might call him reserved with his emotions, but he would rather call himself serene in all situations.

    gnosis story

    Secret :
The winds howled. They tore through the towering stalks of grass and slammed into massive boulders scattered throughout the plains. It was a cold air, frigid and harsh, with a strength that seemed to pierce his garb right down to his flesh. Syna's gaze was swallowed by darkening clouds whose rains drenched the world and left it in a grim world of gray.

It was his own fault some would say. A boy had been lost to the land a short while before the storm had come upon them, and those that had been designated to search for him were barred from venturing out. They resigned the boy to his fate, but to Leonis, it was an assured death sentence.

He didn't know why he split from the pavilions nor the shelter. Nor did he understand what exactly was in store for him once he stepped out into Zulrav's realm. But his conscience would not allow him the luxury to stay in safety. He had to try, even when the threat of death lingered on the horizon.

The cries of the mother yet haunted him as he spurred his steed onward. The rain soaked him to the bone, sticking his hair to his face and his clothes to his skin. He was not devoid of fear. It clawed into his heart as he urged his horse onwards, into the swirling gray clouds that weeped their downpour and cracked their thunder over the landscape. Another sonorous boom split the air. All around him the world was shrouded in indistinct shapes, blotches of black and gray and swaying blades of grass crushed beneath their gallop.

"ANNIS!" He called, but the winds swallowed his words. He glanced behind him, only to find the migrating city lost to the dense wall of grey.

This was my choice... My responsibility. "ANNIS!" He shouted again, pushing through the soaking grass barring his path. Half an hour had passed, and his body was wracked with cold, but still, he ventured on.

It was beside a cluster of boulders that his horse stumbled upon the slick mud and collapsed with a neighing racket. The impact forced a cry from the ethaefal's lips as the pain swallowed his left arm. The agony raged, the rain continued to fall, and the thunder stroked the sky. Almost immediately following, two figures emerged from behind the rocks, black against the backdrop, until they pulled him into the small shelter provided.

Leonis blinked back rain, or was it tears? His vision sought to bring the two strangers into light, but it was only one word he had to utter to know the answer.

    "Annis?"
    "Y-yes... Yes that's me."
The relief that surged through him seemed to stem the tide of pain in his arm. It wasn't in vain... "My name is Leonis... I had to find you... Your mother, she's..."
"I kn-know. This girl she... she found me, she's l-lost too."

His eyes wandered to the second figure, a young woman by the look of her face. Plain was she, with mousy hair and soft brown eyes, but whose creamy skin was streaked with mud and rain.

"What is your name?" He asked.
    "It does not matter now."

Leonis nodded, acknowledging her privacy. "Are you two hurt?"

The boy shook his head, "J-just cold. I-I didn't mean to stay out so long, I was helping to-- to look for herbs for mother. I'm s-sorry."

The ethaefal offered Annis a reassuring smile, "No child, it's alright. You'll be fine."He winced as a clap of thunder boomed overhead, sending the horse closer into their shelter, neighing wildly. Leonis attempted to calm the creature down, then rummaged through the sack he'd brought with him, procuring a damp blanket and stale bread for both the boy and young woman. "Eat, regain your strength. Stay together for warmth, we'll wait it out until the rain and winds become milder, then we'll move."

He glanced skyward, blinking back drops of rainfall. Let the grace of my Lady guide us.

Two bells they remained beneath the shelter of the boulders, until the downpour became a soft pattering and the winds ceased their howling. Leonis lifted the weakened Annis and the girl onto the back of his steed, and began the trek back the way he came, leading the horse on by foot. All was quiet save the relentless rainfall, then a shout erupted from behind him.

"Leonis!" He glanced behind him, to an Annis who had fallen from the horse, trembling uncontrollably on the ground. He felt his heart creak to a halt.
"Annis--" He rushed toward him, scooping him up in his arms, wiping away the mud splattered on his pallid face. "Annis, you can't give up. You'll be fine. Listen to me, boy." He forced the child's gaze into his own, "You can't give up. Think of your mother, of your father, your siblings." He gestured for the girl to hand down the blanket, and wrapped him within it as tightly as he could. "Look at me, Annis. Look at me, and fight for them. You can't give up. I promise you, child, you will see them again. Just-- just fight."
The boy offered him a weak nod, and climbed onto the ethaefal's back as the girl rode on upon the horse. Ten chimes in however, and the stallion began to whinny urgently.

    "Leonis, look.."

The ethaefal felt his heart sink as he spotted the distinct silhouettes of a predator renowned in this part of the world. "Glassbeaks..." The horse was agitated, stomping the muddy ground and backed further and further away. The eth observed the shadows creeping closer amongst the pale stalks, four of which he could count.

This cannot be the end. The girl had slipped off the horse, standing beside the boy as they looked on. Leonis stood ahead, throwing rocks at the beasts in the hopes that it would discourage them, but to no avail. The stallion had long since fled, followed by two of the glassbeaks. The rest were on a course straight toward them.

It was here the fear gripped him, but a defiance as well. A fire that surged through his veins. "You cannot have them!" He roared into the wind. And as he turned to grasp the two children into his arms, to shield them from their fate, the beasts were upon them.

Suddenly, his vision was swallowed by light. A blinding white flash emitted behind him, and for a moment, he noticed the girl had vanished. Annis clung to his chest, eyes wide in bewilderment, as they both looked on to a scene of fleeing beasts and the young woman whose glow ignited in him a profound sense of hope.

    "A divine lady..." He murmured.

The goddess turned, acknowledging both the ethaefal and the boy with a warm smile. "Why yes, my name is Priskil, a pleasure." The pocket of space around them seemed warmed by her presence, and the boy had ceased his trembling.

"Thank you for escorting me from that boulder, the night was long, but it was not without fruition. You've got spunk, young Leonis, but can you keep it going?"

Overwhelmed was hardly the adequate word to describe how he felt standing before the Goddess of Hope. He offered her a respectful bow of his head, and a smile, "I like to think I can."

"And what inspired you to such selflessness, such dedication to do good?"
Here he had to pause, because in truth, he had not himself even pondered on his subconscious change. "I was not the same... when I first fell from the realm of the divine. I was perhaps... an apathetic man, some might say I was even cruel. I had no faith in myself or in others, because I felt I had been punished. It's suffice to say, I'm making up for my past transgressions, my lady. I learned from a man who had faith in me. I had never experienced that before... I...." He paused, wondering with bewilderment how he spoke so easily of something he held so secret, even to himself. "I'm sorry, tangents... They might as well be commonplace.

"I understand." Was all she said, with a smile that warmed his spirit. Something tingled in his palm, but it was not the pain of an injured arm. It was a warm glow that ignited then receded, and a mark of a soft, glowing vortex was left in its wake.

"What an exciting experience this has been, Leonis and Annis. I have faith in what you will accomplish in the future, so whatever you do, don't give up." It only took a second for the goddess to vanish, but beyond the fog that lay ahead, Endrykas emerged.
