35th of Summer, 512 AV.
Wil quickly made his way through the halls of the University, his cloak swishing around him, his steely blue eyes set straight. He walked like that of a man on a mission, and indeed he was such a thing. He had been headed to mentally spar with Professor Stonemiller, a battle he was sure he would lose, but a battle he was hoping he could at least learn from. He had some pent-up frustrations he had wanted to let lose on the man, but then when he had arrived, a notice had been on the door. Stonemiller was away it appeared, and there was a Professor Aelius in his place. Wil had never heard of the man. But, with even more frustration welling up in him in light of the fact that his ideal mental sparring partner was gone... he decided he might as well make this trip worth something, and head to talk to the new professor. Was the professor new, or was he someone who had been here all along? He wasn't sure. He didn't keep up with names.
The young man wasn't that impressive to look at. He was a small thing, just having turned eighteen. He didn't carry himself with any particular air, nor did he seem to have any particular expression on his face. His eyes were a pretty shade of blue, and the cloak that he wore like a robe made him look a bit older than he actually was... but all in all, he was fairly forgettable. If anything, the only thing that set him apart from the rest of the students were the way that his eyes glittered. Intelligence, thought, planning, something of a sort was going on behind them.
Finally, he reached the office that he had been directed to after bugging a few of the other professors. With a quick glance around, he gave the door a small rap of his knuckles, his calm and quiet voice speaking out. "Professor? This is Wil Altro. I am a distant relative of Stonemiller, and was wishing to speak to him."

The Professor had his mouth full when there came a knock on the door. He very nearly swallowed the mixture of foods that he was masticating and transmuting by sheer force of will into food for the dead, soulmist. The surprise sped up the transformation and he quickly spat the glowing stuff out into a little cup.
"Just a minute!"
He caught snippits of what was said outside his door as he looked left, then right, and then ducked under his desk to hide the soulmist. There was no particular reason he did so, but just the fairly normal desire of a magus to keep the extent of his skills a secret. Smacking his head on the underside of the desk, her cursed as quietly as he could manage. Stonemiller's relative?
But he didn't want some random ghost to feed without getting to watch, so he muttered an incantation and waved his hand over the cup, Shield energy forming a rough dome over it and below it. Now he just had to be careful he didn't kick it over. It was such a small shield that he was able to work quickly, albeit with sloppy results. They would be, however, serviceable and that would have to be enough.
He hit his head again, which brought the prickle of tears to his eyes, but he blinked them away, set his hands flat on the desk, and cleared his throat.
"Ah, enter." |
