Summer, 512 AV, Day 46
Gaius entered the large, well stocked shop of Inner Fire Glass and let the door close behind him. He nodded to the man who constantly attended the front shop before moving carefully towards the back of the store, into the hot shop where the magic happened and the work was done.
Gaius knew better than to waste time on questions or foolish small talk and instead went right to work, gathering his wits and his tools. It was to be a simple day of sculpting beads, balls, and maybe the occasional small, simple figurine, if he could. But, most importantly, it was about honing his skills and recalling all the little details of the craft that he had forgotten since leaving Wind Reach.
Gaius set to work quickly, carefully pulling on a heavy apron and set of gloves before heading to the ovens to begin work. The heat was a blazing, almost physical presence and Gaius struggled to keep his composure as he approached the ovens. Slowly, and with great care, he made his way to the oven and found a crucible filled with molten glass, lightly tinged with a deep blue, the color of the sky on a clear summer night.
Gaius breathed slow and steady, keeping his movements regulated as he moved the ladle, scooping out a molten slug of glass to the marver. It was a slow, deliberate process to place it on the cold stone of the table, but soon, Gaius had a small amount of the glass before him and he began to work it, carefully molding it between his hands as memories of his time in the heat of the Wind Reach hot shops came back to him.
Gaius worked steadily for several hours, laboring over his work, molding it into the careful shape of a variety of beads and marbles, giving each new piece a life and breath of its own, hoping to make each piece radiate with its own energy and allure. Finally, Gaius began the intensive process of sculpting a small, simple figurine from the blue tinged glass.
The work was long and intensive and Gaius bent to his work with a passion and a fury that most people put towards battle or love making. Slowly, a small, simple form took shape, a man, or a boy perhaps, running, frozen in that perfect motion of time, one foot behind while the other pushed forward. The blue tinge of the glass ran through the form like a living wind rushing through it. At least, Gaius hoped it would look that way to anyone else browsing through the shop.
Finally, Gaius was finished and he gazed over the simple but intensively worked pieces with no small amount of satisfaction. Then, he began to clean up after himself, returning tools to the proper place and gathering up his work, placing it on a small area, designated for items awaiting Leena's approval. With all that done, Giaus headed off through the hot shop to find Leena and get her opinion on his work. With any luck, he would appease her for the day and buy himself time to improve and remember enough to impress her.
