Basic Information Name: Holland Race: Inarta Age: 19 Years Birthday: 49th Day of Summer, 493 AV Character Concept: Always having to live up to expectations of both her Mother and Father, Holland is a very quiet person. When alone she tends to be more relaxed than when she is out on the field. Always working and trying to be better than her Father to please her Mother she doesn't get much time to talk. Commonly, you won't find her at any other places than the Archery Ranges or in the Forest. Holland loves a challenge, but inside her insecurities get the best of her. When she is told that she will never be good enough it only causes her to work harder. Although her Mother always reminds her that she is the reason her Father is dead. It is quite a burden to carry, but she tries to look on the brighter sides of things. One thing her Father taught her was that there was always a light in every darkness. Despite the fact of his arguments, and tantrums she loved him either way. Everyday she would go into a corner and talk to her bow. The only thing she has left of her Father since her Mother keeps everything else under lock and key. Saying she is bad luck. Holland always chooses to think he is happy up there on the other side, and that he is proud of her. Character History: When Holland was born, her family had many high hopes for her. Both her Mother and Father were well known in the archery sector and the herbalist sector of Wind Reach. In her eyes, her parents were 'perfect' and she could never reach up to those standards. Holland had big shoes to fill, but no matter how hard she tried it was never good enough. The First Hunt At the age of seven, her father took her out on her 'first hunt'. Along the way she learned how to scavenge for food, the best places to hide, how to camouflage, etc. Coming to the end of the night her father found them a resting place to sleep for the night. Holland didn't fancy archery as much as her father did since this is what he wanted, not her. Everything was always set for her, her personal goals, her life, everything! It was always hard to live a normal life when you're always expected to be something extraordinary. Her parents wanted a perfect child, but deep down inside she knew that there was no such thing as perfection. It was only a mere term to make people feel better than others, or another way to set the bar higher. If her parents encouraged her in the right way, she wouldn't be in this state. Holland wanted a normal life, with normal parents, and to do what she wanted. But on the other hand see had to realize her duties to the community and her family. Soon, Holland had drifted off to sleep only to be awakened by shrieks in the forest. She just assumed it was another hunter and she had nothing to be afraid of. Another shriek appeared on another side of the forest. Shaking underneath a tree, she began to climb far up where no one could see her. Finally when she reached the top, there she saw it... An eagle perched on the highest branch peering out into the lands. A small smile emerged as she attempted to bring her hand closer so she could touch it. Although the eagle not knowing her intentions attempted to snap at her. Holland pulled back quickly before trying again to see if he/she would perch on her finger. The eagle cocked it's head at her before stepping onto her nimble fingers. Holland allowed a small laugh to escape her lips before petting the huge eagle. She didn't know much of the history of the Wind Eagles, just that they were of much importance. Her mother claimed to tell her that story another night, but she assumed that wouldn't be any time soon. After a while of spending time in the tree, talking to the eagle as if it were a person, she set the creature free. The most breath taking sight, to see an eagle take flight into the unknown. She knew that she would be back hunting, in search of much more. The Obssession Both her Mother and Father had chosen to stick with her since they were so wound up about her being 'perfect'. Holland knew there was no such thing as being perfect since no one could be that way. Everyone was equal, and had their own likes/dislikes; ways of being perfect. It all started with her Father's decision, that he would never leave his daughter's side until he knew she was ready. Her Mother on the other hand refused to allow that claiming that her daughter was ready. This lead to a series of arguments over whether Holland should stay or leave. It was of abnormality that her Father chose to stick onto his daughter since most families allowed their children to be on there own until ready to become independent. Holland's Father craved for perfection, to have his daughter to be his light. To follow in his footsteps and do that in the next child to come. Holland didn't mind keeping a relationship with her parents but she wanted freedom of her own. Her Father wouldn't rest until he got what he wanted therefore he worked his daughter until she was dried out. You would only find her in the Archery Ranges or in the Forest attempting to please her Father. Many kids pointed and laughed at her for remaining with her parents since it was abnormal. Her Father claimed that it was for the best and she should stop complaining. Because he didn't care what she thought, he wanted his daughter to be exactly like him. Which wasn't even possible when Holland had her own dreams to follow. Independence was a long stretch away and she didn't know when she would be free. The Incident Holland had just turned sixteen, by then she had learned a lot more about hunting and had aspired to be an Archer. Her mother was furious with her decision, but respected that at least she took after one of her parents. She believed that herbalism was another thing that she could part take in, but Archery had one her heart. At the age of twelve she received her first bow from her father, her name engraved in the bow. Holland never used any other bow other than her own, neither should anyone touch what is hers. She had a particular feel for the bow since it was her own, and there was sentimental meaning to it. Until one day she broke something. Her Father and herself were training in the woods, trying to improve her aim. Normally, she would get the bulls-eye here and there but her Father wanted perfection. Something that Holland could never give to her parents, causing them to just ride her like a horse until she's dry. Holland's Father was unimpressed and continued to yell at her to get it right until her frustration lead to another issue. Deciding to challenge his daughter, he set the arrows on fire and made her try it. Deep down inside Holland knew that she would fail and that is what her Father was looking for. Failure, just to laugh at her and tell her she wasn't good enough. With all the courage she gathered she only did what she could, her best. Failing in the end, and causing a raging fire. Her Father instructed for her to evacuate the area and allow him to handle this by himself. Due to his arrogance, he eventually did put out the fire but the lack of oxygen lead him to his death. Her Mother could never get over what happened, and blamed Holland for the horrible act. Claiming that it was her fault she failed and that she would never be good enough. This crushed her, already striving toward's being an Avora. Her Mother claimed that she would never be one, and that she'd end up on the streets. That was if she didn't disobey her mother. Over the years she spent many times trying to comfort her Mother in the night. Having to listen to her many sobs, and bangs on the rocky walls. Holland wanted to impress her Mother, be the one she always wanted. Practically perfect, or just claimed that she was. 3 Years Later Holland had spent many times away from her Mother and in the woods. She would practice hunting trying to be the best, hoping her Father would approve. That was if he was looking down from heaven with a humble smile on his face. Many times you would find her in the Archery Room practising on her targets, barely anywhere else. Her Mother would force her to work so hard to earn up to her father's rank, which was highly respected. Always, she was reminded of how important it was to have caste. Rather than being a Dek, she strived to be an Avora. For now this would settle her Mother's rant and hopefully stop them. Unfortunately, nothing was ever good enough for her Mother. Holland was the reason her Father died.
