Kaliara Observation Deck In 445 AV a young Iceglaze builder named Obaryi married Kaliara Skyglow and made the uncommon, but not unheard of, decision to live with his wife’s Hold. Obaryi wanted to impress his new bride and her Hold by creating a masterpiece of his own that they would all find useful. Obaryi knew that Kaliara loved to paint Morwen's Lights and draw inspiration from it so he determined to build a structure that would allow her to get a closer view of the night sky and drew up the blueprints for a massive observation deck. It took Obaryi ten years to complete the hundred foot tall observation deck that he named after his beloved wife, Kaliara and was made available for public use in 456 AV. He built the deck behind the Hold where it would not obstruct the Hold’s view of the sky but still be near enough for convenience. The deck is constructed of wood and contains a long, winding set of stairs in the interior that leads up to the deck. The deck is edged with a four foot fence that keeps viewers safe in the event of foolishness or strong winds. The deck is also regularly scraped free of ice to ensure maximum safety. A group of Iceglaze members inspect the structure seasonally for weaknesses or vulnerabilities and attend to them immediately. In the djed storms of Spring, 512 AV the observation deck suffered damage from the winds and was closed to patrons. Iceglaze Hold repaired the damage in early Summer, 512 AV and reopened it to the public. Although Skyglow Hold takes special pride in the observation deck it is used by all residents and visitors of Avanthal. During the day many residents, particularly the younger ones, like to climb the steps to get a panoramic view of Avanthal and socialize. It’s a popular tourist point and almost all guests of the city visit it at some point during their stay especially since Skyglow Vantha are rather insistent on it. At night the observation deck is utilized by artists and recreationalists alike. Many families and young couples love to bring blankets and warm drinks up to the deck and cozy up to soak in the beauty of Morwen's Lights. It is a common courtesy to whisper conversation or maintain silence while night viewing so it doesn’t distract the enjoyment or peace of others. |
