To contemplate the past... (Sliver)

Rahisa... could you ever find it in your heart to forgive me? Kroth had found this place a little while ago. A large wooded area on the outskirts of Avanthal, a place where he could find peace and tranquility. A place where he could contemplate the past. Kroth had put himself to work the moment he had arrived in Avanthal. He figured that if he put his mind to work then he would have little or no time to think or remember...

For some reason these particular woods had escaped the worst of the Djed storm. Compared to the utter destruction of the city itself this place almost seemed like a haven. The towering pine trees continued to stand like silent sentinels above the half melted snow below. The woods themselves still thrived with vegetation, wildlife and game for the hunters and Kelvic’s of Avanthal he had taken note.

As the Jamoura was taking his usual stroll through the wood he stumbled upon a bush of snowberries. Realizing how hungry he suddenly was Kroth plucked a dark red berry from the bush, gave it a quick sniff and plopped it into his mouth. It tasted nothing like the berries of the Spires yet they were berries none the less so he couldn’t complain. He continued to eat until the bush itself was almost stripped bare when all of a sudden he heard a ripping sound from a nearby bush.

Curious, Kroth paused for a moment and concentrated as his coal black fur began to turn a whitish-green to blend in with its surroundings. Quietly he moved behind the bush trying as best as he could to hide the massive bulk of his body that was now ‘camouflaged’ as he peered over. What he saw intrigued him.

A small, carnivorous creature was finishing up the remainders of its meal, the bones of the unfortunate critter gleaming against the morning sun. Looks like I wasn’t the only one that was hungry... Luckily it hadn’t spotted Kroth yet, he knew that his camouflage would not last long and that was if his scent didn’t give it away first.

To contemplate the past... (Sliver)

Postby Sliver on July 16th, 2012, 11:25 am

It was just a day after being accepted into the Icewatch. Every time the Kelvic considered this it sent a new tingle down her spine. A place where she belonged. No more traveling, no more hunting for purpose, maybe she would even be able to find a bondmate among the ranks of the Vantha: at last. After being shown her quarters she had expected that she would get to work in the city immediately, but that apparently was not to be. She remembered the duo she had first met, substantially more hospitable the second time around, explaining to her that she would be embarking upon a journey to the Spires, and that she might as well enjoy the day she had before it began. What better way to celebrate than hunting some game?

You would never think the stocky bulk of a wolverine could just run down a rabbit, but they were surprisingly agile creatures. She was as bound to lose her game as much as any hunter, but she caught them more often than not, and that was enough for the Kelvic.

So now Sliver sat, savoring every last bit of her rabbit, tough jaw muscles snapping open the bones of her kill to suck out the marrow, letting her guard down more than normal for the sake of the occasion. She had just finished her second rabbit and was cleaning her paws when she caught the scent, strange, musky, and entirely unfamiliar.

Her blocky head jumped up from her meal, head pointed up into the air as if to enhance whatever signal her nostrils were receiving. She snorted a couple times, and glanced around. She could see nothing, but whatever it was smelled near. Even so her apprehension level did not seem high enough, she was in a rambunctious mood, and half wanted to fight whatever might come her way. So dark eyes peered around her, ears pricked in anticipation of whatever would occur next.

To contemplate the past... (Sliver)

Kroth knew the instant he had been discovered when the predator turned to red alert, on all fours, its snout pointing in the Jamoura’s general direction. It glanced around warily at its surroundings, clearly unable to comprehend where the Jamoura was located. At least the camouflage is working... back in the Spires it would have taken no more than a simple thought to merge his coat with the green, earthy-brown scenery. Here in Avanthal he really had to concentrate to blend in with the unfamiliar, snow white and pale green wastelands.

Kroth frowned in disappointment, the smaller creature had caught his scent. There would be no further observations on the intriguing mammal. Seeing little more point to his camouflage the Jamoura exhaled slowly whilst his fur returned to its former coal black origins. He pushed his body slowly from the slushy snow as not to scare the miniature predator. Emerging from the bush he was not only surprised to see the creature stand its ground but it also looked as if it wanted to fight.

A Kelvic? Was the first thought that came to mind. It was unusual for such a small predator to stand and defend itself, especially after the prized meal had already been devoured. “Are you... perhaps a Kelvic?” He asked curiously in the common tongue, his voice a great deep, resonating rumble. Kroth had found that most Kelvic in Avanthal understood the common tongue better than the native ‘Vani’ which had always struck him as odd.

To contemplate the past... (Sliver)

The Kelvic grunted as she rose. In her relaxed state she had almost forgotten about the injuries she had gained the previous day, while the bruise on her leg was only a minor inconvenience, her breaths were shorter and more laborious due to her cracked rib, something which had caused her to ambush her prey rather than chase it down all the way: Mayhaps a fight was not the best course of action in this case.

She eyed the giant gorilla warily, but her guard relaxed slightly as soon as he spoke, her gaze more curious than hostile. His identification of her true nature was swift, but Sliver herself had encountered few other wolverine's in her journeys across Mizahar, so it was also not a difficult conclusion to ultimately stumble upon.

If she was to communicate, it would be far easier to just: There.

A naked female sat cross legged in front of the Jamoura, she was pale and scarred, with tribal tattoos running across most of her body. Dark eyes glanced up and down the giant's frame, and one hand ran absentmindedly through a golden brown mohawk.

I am as you say. What are you?

She had heard of great beasts that roamed the Spires, but she had never encountered any primates larger than a Capuchin in her travels, much less one that could communicate. She read an intelligence that far exceeded her own in the beast's gaze, something that only mildly concerned her.

Sliver :
Experience:
  • Observation +1

Lores:
  • Rabbits Are Extremely Agile Creatures
  • Jamoura: Large Primates of the Spires

Notes:
I think I've said this for record time in my notes to you already, but oh well. It's unfortunate that this thread died out so soon. The two of you are not even introduced to one another yet! And again, there was not much to award. It's too bad to see things end like this. The interaction between the two beasts, one holding a significantly deeper treasure chest of wisdom than the other, would have had the potential of becoming a good read.

I sent you a PM regarding some points with your character sheet. As soon as you take care of them, PM me for your grade.
