Rahisa... could you ever find it in your heart to forgive me? Kroth had found this place a little while ago. A large wooded area on the outskirts of Avanthal, a place where he could find peace and tranquility. A place where he could contemplate the past. Kroth had put himself to work the moment he had arrived in Avanthal. He figured that if he put his mind to work then he would have little or no time to think or remember...
For some reason these particular woods had escaped the worst of the Djed storm. Compared to the utter destruction of the city itself this place almost seemed like a haven. The towering pine trees continued to stand like silent sentinels above the half melted snow below. The woods themselves still thrived with vegetation, wildlife and game for the hunters and Kelvic’s of Avanthal he had taken note.
As the Jamoura was taking his usual stroll through the wood he stumbled upon a bush of snowberries. Realizing how hungry he suddenly was Kroth plucked a dark red berry from the bush, gave it a quick sniff and plopped it into his mouth. It tasted nothing like the berries of the Spires yet they were berries none the less so he couldn’t complain. He continued to eat until the bush itself was almost stripped bare when all of a sudden he heard a ripping sound from a nearby bush.
Curious, Kroth paused for a moment and concentrated as his coal black fur began to turn a whitish-green to blend in with its surroundings. Quietly he moved behind the bush trying as best as he could to hide the massive bulk of his body that was now ‘camouflaged’ as he peered over. What he saw intrigued him.
A small, carnivorous creature was finishing up the remainders of its meal, the bones of the unfortunate critter gleaming against the morning sun. Looks like I wasn’t the only one that was hungry... Luckily it hadn’t spotted Kroth yet, he knew that his camouflage would not last long and that was if his scent didn’t give it away first.
