Name Nascha. Chosen by Nascha herself when she was very young. It means ‘Owl’ and she picked it because she admired the solitary, yet efficient traits of the raptor. |
Physical Information Race: Chaktawe Birthday & Age: 20th Day of Winter in 491 AV (19) Gender: Female |
Physical Description Nascha stands at approximately 5 ft 9”, weighing 135 pounds, which most don’t expect, given her thin frame. This extra weight is, as with all Chaktawe, due to the extra organ she has which stores water. She prefers to keep her hair long and not tied up so that she may quickly hide her face if needs be, in order to remain unnoticed. She does, however, keep feathers in the hair at her left temple, though more to show pride in herself (for actually obtaining the feathers) than to display a solidarity with her people. |
Character Concept Personality – In her mind, Nascha has disappointed everyone in her life. As a result, she suffers from a distinct lack of confidence in herself, which she skillfully hides with an icy personality that doesn’t appeal to most people, and certainly doesn’t allow them to get too close. One could know her for years without actually learning anything about her. Nascha still hates the idea of disappointing anyone, and will almost always go to great lengths to get a job done perfectly. She will also look at a situation carefully before jumping in, wary of making an ultimately disastrous error. This not only makes her the ideal employee for almost anything, but a good ally to have as well, assuming that anyone manages to earn her interest. Ethics – While bitter about her past with her tribe, Nascha still upholds many of the traditions that were instilled in her during her youth. While her regard for humans is somewhat lacking, she has a soft spot for animals, particularly birds, and rejects the very thought of harming them. She goes so far as to avoid eating meat if she can help it. Nascha is iffy about hurting the weak, but is not completely averse to it if they stand in the way of getting the job done. It’s all about efficiency: finishing what she started with the least impact possible. Likes – Nascha enjoys swimming, usually seeking out the largest body of water near her next destination and trying to stay as close as possible to it. When immersed in water, particularly a river, she is automatically more relaxed and less reserved than usual. This is most likely due to the influence of the Makutsi, the River Goddess who watches over her people. She also enjoys helping birds that have either been injured or lost their way. While unable to communicate with them, Nascha has learned their body language and anatomy enough to assist them with most problems, such as broken wings or a lost family. She can often be seen travelling with at least one bundle of feathers nestled in to a wicker cage hanging off her pack, or otherwise sleeping against her neck in the shade of the hood of her cloak. Dislikes – As was previously mentioned, Nascha is an animal lover, avoiding eating meat if she can, and outright refusing to eat birds. She steers clear of hugs and other ways of conveying affection, often feeling uncomfortable in situations that have too much fondness. Often, during these times, she stands somewhat awkwardly, attempting to ward off any emotional touching with an icy-smooth expression bordering on ‘just try it and see what happens.’ This tactic is often effective. Nascha also, inexplicably, dislikes flowers. |
Character History Pre-Creation – Nascha grew up in the Kalanue tribe, watching the people around her chasing and haggling to cling on to existence. From an early age, Nascha learnt how to haggle and became surprisingly adept at getting exactly what she wanted, though she later came to learn it was more due to her somewhat prickly demeanor than any actual skill. This gift was also a curse, as it turned out. Being of the Abayla bloodline, it was expected of her to learn the stories of her people. However, she was told at the young age of around ten that she had no music in her voice and was therefore not worthy to learn the tales of her people. Although the tribe was still outwardly kind to her, Nascha was treated very differently. She quickly became aware of the small twinge she felt with every pitying look, disappointed sigh or mutter of her not being worth her water. Very soon, Nascha learned that she would not be able to bear failing her tribe, or anyone else, ever again. She spent more time away from her tribe, preferring to be out alone, chasing goats for them or watching the birds in the surrounding area. She loved birds the most, and would often spend hours observing one nest from a safe distance where she would not frighten the birds away. When the time for the searching arrived, Nascha was not scared; she already spent much of her time away from the tribe. Her only concern was that the gods would not speak to her, that she would have no prophecy or guardian, and her tribe would once again be let down by her shortcomings. Unfortunately, her doubts had been correct. Although she prayed all day in her tent of solitude, immersed in devotion, no god spoke to her and no guardian came to guide her. Feeling abandoned and worthless, Nascha decided she couldn't stay with her tribe, for fear of facing their disappointment for the rest of her life. As a result, she left behind her mother, a healer who taught her daughters the basics of poisons; her father, a good negotiator; and her sister. For the past few years she has been wandering Mizahar, fending for herself and the birds she keeps in her care. |
