Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Location: Kendoka Sasaran

Liandra couldn't meet the gaze of Mizra, as he stared down at her, the large man an intimidating figure. She'd entered the Kendoka Sasaran looking to learn how to use the trident strapped to her back well enough that Riverfall wouldn't kick her out. When she entered the building, she saw a bunch of Akalaks fighting with one another, some with weapons of wood, and others with weapons of steel. Despite the large grin on the man's face, Liandra couldn't help but feel as if she were captured by Myrians once more. The man finally spoke, "So I'm guessing you came here to learn how to use that giant fork on your back? You have the scars of a novice, has no one ever trained you?" Liandra shook her head, and said meekly, "I just want to learn enough to be of use to the city. I don't want to be kicked out."

"What's your name, and what have you fought against to get those scars?"

"Um... a Nuzem... a Chained One... a few sharks... Oh! Um, some little white flying weasel things... and a couple of ghosts. I've never fought a person before though."

"And you're still alive? There must be something special about you girl, that's for sure. Go find yourself a wooden trident over there on the racks, and put yours in its place. Then find yourself a partner. Before I can teach you, I need to see what you know, and don't know."

Liandra nodded, and made her way over to the many numerous racks, trying to find her thrice tined weapon. There were a lot of swords, daggers, and spears, but no tridents. She continued to finger through them, noting the different types of woods being used. After several chimes of searching, she found one, a dark hardwood and she pulled it out of the rack, noticing that it was heavier than her own. It was smoother though, well worn from the constant use of hands. She put her own trident in its place, and stepped away, trying to get a feel for the new weight. She turned, and began looking around for a sparring partner, her stomach doing flips, nervous about fighting a real person.

Dex had been pretty interested in learning how to fight after a few questionable occurrences with Rykanis. His viewpoint on fighting was ... he had no idea really, except that he should learn. And he should learn obviously as Rykanis pointed out, because he should be able to defend whoever he eventually bonded.

And when he had practiced once with Rykanis, he found this neat stick that turned into two pokey things. So, since it was so much fun, he found himself back in the arena to practice.

When he'd found the neat stick, with the toma dagger marking on it, he than moved to find a partner. A partner, a partner, a partner. Oooh, there was someone. An oddly colored, shaped, facially looking person, with a giant wooden fork.

"Hi! Do you wanna practice with our dull woody things?"

Ishara had a bad feeling about this. Serriff had taken a lot of patience with her in helping her learn some useful hand-to-hand combat techniques, and it had not been easy. Her size offered her few advantages to ger obvious disadvantages. And her experience? Laughable.

With a resigned sigh, she ducked past a few other students loitering at the entrance, and bumped her way through a cluster of dusty pupils who had clearly just come from the training yard. The large Akalak men seemed to be everywhere, and though Ishara did her best to dart out of their way, she could not help but feel that she was a nussiance, here. After all, what would a tiny thing like her hope to get out of--

A hand clamped down on her shoulder.

"Are you lost?"

Ishara jumped reflexively, shying to one side and glancing up--way up--to the Akalak man frowning speculativelt down at her. "Oh, no...I'm looking for the training yard. I have--well, I mean to have some lessons."

The Akalak man frowned deeper, and Ishara was uncertain as to whether or not that was a good sign. He pointed her in the right direction, though...and before long she was on the edge of a sandy pit, blinking in the bright sunlight. There was a rack of wooden weapons nearby, and so far two students gathered...Ishara blinked. She recognized them both.

"I did not expect to find familiar faces here," she called out, sparing them a brief smile as she looked the weapons rack over. A short wooden sword seemed to fit her, and she tugged it from the rack, hefting it's weight. It was heavier than it looked, but this was something she would no doubt have to grow used to. She thought of Serriff's daggers, and how well he wielded them. Could this be what she needed?
"What creature is this which dances beneath my eye?
A desert-bred mortal who's beastial sinew and heart
Lay forged in the firey breath of Yahal's sigh!
Watch, as the soul surfs upon the wind and slowly breaks apart..."

I’sona did not like their rules. Or she hadn’t paid attention. She was too fascinated by the tiny similarities of their cities and the coloring of their peoples. She didn’t want to fight, she barely fought as it was, the Charoda couldn’t even remember when she actually had fought something other than long strings of seaweed. But to stay here she would have to learn, there was no other option. She couldn’t leave the city, at least not yet so she had to abide by the rules.

She licked her dry lips, shifting her weight from leg to leg in front of the doors, catching glimpses of students and hearing soft thuds from within. This was one thing she didn’t want to know more about. Her leg slid backwards, maybe she could leave. She should leave right now.

“Are you here for the lessons as well?” If she had thought she was tiny before this man dwarfed her. His shadow swallowed hers and her neck craned back to gaze up at him.

“Yes.”

“Speak up.” Eyes growing wider as she took in the weapon at his side her voice rose an octave, every person here carried one but it had just only sunk in that they could be dangerous people.

“Yes!” standing up to her tip-toes she nodded in an unsure manner, “I am hereing to learn the weapons.”

I’sona thrust out her arms, showing the glass weapon she had been curling around. It weighed much more out of water than in and no one else seemed to have any clear weapons. Staring unblinkingly she waited for the huge man to turn her away but he didn’t and she found his smile made him seem much nicer than his frown.

“You won’t be using that yet. Go get a wooden one and find someone to practice with.”

I’sona didn’t wait for the man to frown again and hurried inside the room, looking for the wooden weapon the man had spoke of. Finding a stick that closest resembled her weapon she gently set hers in the now refilled spot. There were other students gathering their weapons as well, including another Charoda and it no longer seemed like a completely bad idea. Trying to raise her voice she slid closer to the trio.

“We will all be practicing the weapons?” Her face scrunched at the idea but she thrust forward her new stick weapon in some form of greeting.
