    Name: Antoninus Arrius
    Nickname: Anton, Ant
    Race: Human
    Age: 16
    Birthplace: Alvadas
    Gender: Male
    Height: 5'4"
    Weight: 120lbs
Physical Description

Anton is an absolute runt of a kid, short even by the standards of the average 10 year old boy. Describing him as athletic may be pushing it, but he does possess the build of a skinny, slightly underfed child who spends the bulk of his time running around and playing the many physical playground games that childhood has to offer. While genetics hasn't been very kind to his initial growth rates, they've more than compensated with his looks, for Anton is an adorably beautiful child, all nice soft features and pale skin and sweet little dimples. He has a long face, with the faintest hint of freckle specks around his nose, striking dark brown eyes and similarly coloured hair that that falls just past his jawline, but not quite reaching his shoulders. The length of his hair, coupled with his semi-androgynous looks, makes it common for one to, at least at first glance, mistake him for a pretty little girl.

Character Concept

Soft-spoken, neat, and unfailingly polite, Anton is the kind of child a parent wouldn't mind raising, at least when compared to the unquenchable creatures of movement and noise that most children start out as. With a smile always plastered on his face, he's a boy that radiates quiet, soothing cheer, and is always willing to lend a hand, however limited his help may prove to be. He's a seemingly bright kid, smart for his age, and possesses an insatiable curiosity, but is hesitant to ask too many questions for fear of annoying his elders. There's a sense of maturity to him, not enough to propel his presence out of his age group, but sufficient enough that he has a better grasp of the world than those within the pre-teen club, and this is reflected in several ways: His extraordinary lack of anything resembling an ego, for one thing, and a dislike of confrontations and altercations, to the point where he is more than willing to allow others to trample over him if it means avoiding a conflict that would hurt or implicate other people. All in all, he has the tendency to place the immediate needs of others before his own, and any inconvenience on his part is but trifling for the happiness of others.

But not all is as it seems. Something is rather off about Anton and there are numerous little hints scattered about. His smiles are sometimes strained ones, and his laughter, at times, comes out too easily and too quickly, even in the face of the most brittle, humour-challenged jokes. And there are other subtle clues that surface every once in awhile: the slightest flicker of annoyance in his eyes here, a brief half-scowl and a derisive snort there, an impatient tapping of the fingers now and then. These details all add up to that one simple conclusion: Anton isn't quite the perfect, open-minded, pure-hearted young saint that he presents to the world.

It's no persona or facade, not a full one, at least; Anton is, for the most part, a compassionate child with a strong streak of empathy, but not without his flaws and prejudices. It's more of a half-mask, really, a conscious effort to play up what he deems as the positive aspects of his personality, while drowning out as much of the negative as possible. It is an attempt at equilibrium, at coping with what he does, at a controlled balance between the different parts of his life. It is, ultimately, an exercise in humanity, a need to create a very clear divide between his professional life and his personal one. His profession? More hints abound. It's in the way he walks too quietly, the way his worklife slips through and he begins carrying himself with confidence and authority, with the sense of a man thrice his height. It's in the way panic floods his eyes at even the most slightest of sudden sounds, and it's also, last but not least, in the way his stare seems to gravitate towards and linger on known mages.

Anton is the youngest member of Alvadas's pet monsters: The Silencers.

On official duty, Anton's demeanour is drastically different, a darker echo of what he truly is. Each detail is twisted or nuanced, each tiny bit of humanity that makes up the boy is either toned-down or pushed aside in favour of the mission at hand. There's a grim sternness to his features, a cold professionalism that makes him seem much taller and much, much older than his 10 living years. His trade is in lethality, in hurt and violence, and while he hasn't killed enough to have truly gotten used to it, it is no longer a completely alien thing to him.

Anton is a prodigy of a sorts: A freakishly fast learner, smarter than most his age and a fair portion of adults, open to a number of abstract concepts and ideas that one would only come to care for later in life. The major focus of his gifts, however, lie primarily in his natural, almost instinctive grasp on magic and academia, though a silencer's lifestyle doesn't expose him much to the latter. Anton has known little more than magic and Ionu for most of his life, and is curious about what lies beyond that veil, beyond sorcery and his God.

Anton's role as a silencer is very important to him, not just as a source of income, but also spiritually. Each time he kills yet another withered shell of a wizard, each time he encounters yet another overgiven, tongue-speaking insane mage over the course of his work, it serves as a dark would-be reflection, a reminder of what could happen to him if he ever let his magic run wild. For Anton, in many ways, is just a disaster waiting to happen. He's in love with his magic, and many of the fledging disciplines in his arsenal are self-taught, without the knowledge or, more importantly, consent of the Silencers. To him, magic is a necessity of his life, a gift that allows him to compete on equal ground with the adults. He seeks to expand, to grow, to gain more and more and more power for the sake of power, and while the young fledging mage and disciplined silencer in him stresses caution and moderation in his continued development, the child in him is a reckless one, with arrogance fuelled by his obvious intelligence, which in turn fuels the belief that he can do anything and everything if he sets his mind to it, consequences be damned.

Despite his misgivings over their rather lethal methods, Anton earnestly believes in the Silencer cause. He is proud to be considered among their ranks, and he is proud of the fact that they protect the city on a daily basis. What he isn't proud of, on the other hand, is the way the life of a silencer changes some of it's members; wrapping them in zeal and hate and barely contained violence. It's yet another reminder, another lesson from the mistakes of others, and it drives his determination to lead a normal life outside work, to not let the many pressures of the job, of the mission, overtake and overwhelm. He wants, more than anything else, to grab at whatever pieces of childhood that life can still offer him.

Character History

As far back as he could remember, Anton has only ever known the very top of the Womiyu, the place where the Silencers trained and slept and took roost. He started out as a ward of the temple, one of those unwanted kids that they tended to pick up now and then. From the start, his exceptional aptitude for combat magic became all too apparent, and his gifts were seen fit to be developed to serve as a silencer of Alvadas. He was taught to respect Ionu, to respect the gift that was the city of Alvadas. He was then taught the means by which he would defend those he would respect: Through magic. Over his first few years, he developed his craft with the help of his instructors. He learned at an exponential rate, growing by leaps and bounds, easily surpassing the peer group of children he was training with by a significant margin.

And that was when he began to get juggled around from class to class, passing over into the more advanced batches of older and older children, shifting through them as his skill continued to rise and rise and rise. He felt so out of it though, being passed on to groups of increasing older peers, although he tried to keep up all the same. The days were dull then, but purposeful, shifting forth between lessons and lectures and trips to the library. Anton, in fact, could think of nothing more this little, repeating cycle.

And then...

His name came up as a potential newly-made Silencer

It was an unprecedented thing, really. A child, a mere child, put up for nomination. The debate was one between skill and experience, between forcing a child to kill and basic morality. But there were things a child could do that adults couldn't, places they couldn't go to, so to speak. There was even talk of the possibility of infiltrating the gibbets. Anton's skill, at this point, was only exceptional by the standards of children, but it was sufficient for the purposes of the lowest silencer.

And so, he became a silencer

But Anton's position is by no means a stable one. He's on probation of a sorts, a long trial run to see whether a child, albeit a talented one, can live up to the likes of a Silencer's life. At times, he even requires supervision, sending another more experienced silencer to watch over him as he makes his kills. He's going steadily so far, but it's still a long time before the he gains anything resembling full independence.
