The road to hell is build by parents with good intentions

Postby Coren on September 4th, 2012, 11:42 am

When coren felt alea's grip falter he rolled of her and stood up, staring down at the young girl gasping for air with disdain and anger in his eyes. He waited for alea to make a move, really hoping that the fight was finally over, he was sick and tired of her for the moment.. and he shouldn't be wasting time either way, if his parents really where serious about kicking him out of the hold he had a ton of things to do before the end of the day.
Kicked out of the hold, as that sentence ran through his mind a spark went through his mind and his jaw tightened, how bloody unfair could they be? He stuffed the thought and anger into the back of his head, now wasn't the time to deal with things like that.

When alea didn't seem to attack he turned around and walked away going towards the warrens to see if he could get a residence there, it shouldn't be that hard if there weren't any... Coren's train of thought was cut of as he heard the dreaded familiar voice of the child again. Why did that girl always continue to follow him?

Coren gave a quick look at the girl that was now only a few meters away from him.
“Yes it is alea.” He said in an angry tone. “I am not in the mood to deal with any of your antics at the moment. So why don't you be a good girl and leave me alone?”

The road to hell is build by parents with good intentions

Postby Alea Davenport on September 5th, 2012, 12:57 am

Alea stood still for a moment. It was starting to sink in that something about this time was different from when they'd fought before. Well, maybe the fighting was over, but she could still find ways to annoy him until he paid attention to her, which, she vaguely recalled, was what had started their habit of fighting every time they met anyway.

She relaxed her aggressive posture and stood rooted to the spot, waiting quietly until he turned around and began walking away again. Once his back was turned, she skipped up to him and said cheerfully, "Your parents were pretty angry, huh?" She fell into step beside him as she thought back over the recent events, and frowned as she realized that something didn't quite add up. "What were they so angry about anyway? I mean, reading books is boring as petch"--a word she'd learned from Coren--"but they don't really seem like something to get that excited over." She walked with a bounce in her step, deliberately oblivious to his mood.

Coren knew how the annoying brat a lot better then he wanted too. So he knew that just a single reprimand wouldn't dissuade her from annoying for the rest of the day, probably just the opposite only encouraging the annoying creature to bug him some more. And not even a full chime later his prediction was realized when alea began to badger him once more.

When she mentioned the books but not his use of magic he couldn't help but wonder if she was even stupider then he had thought, or that even the existence of magic fell under her ignorance.
“They weren't angry about the books.” He dismissed the idea of her being that ignorant, she was just trying to rile him up or was just to stupid to realize what had happened. Every parent would drill the dangers of magic into their children.
“But about the fact I'm a mage.” It was out in the open anyway, maybe bluntly telling he was a mage would get rid of her.

Alea frowned and said skeptically, "A mage? Like... magic?" Having never actually encountered a djed wielder, except maybe once, briefly, she wasn't entirely convinced that magic wasn't just a fancy word for things that had more rational explanations if you looked hard enough. The one time she'd been almost convinced, there had been some pretty strong visual evidence. "If you were using 'magic', then why weren't your hands glowing?" she asked smugly. She had almost insisted that they should have been glowing blue, but she allowed for the possibility that magic might have different colors.

She frowned even more as something else occurred to her. "And what about your mark from Morwen? Isn't that magic? And wouldn't your parents have that too? Why is that okay but glowing-blue-hands magic isn't?" She had forgotten to make her voice petulant and whiny and childish, her curiosity overpowering her desire to make Coren miserable, for the moment at least.

Coren rolled his eyes at her response. Seems like she was both a moron and ignorant. Really, it couldn't be magic because his hands weren't glowing? How come his parents kicked him out of the home but her parents hadn't killed her for the sheer stupidity she was constantly showing to the world around him.

“Because only morons or ignorant people assume that every discipline of magic has a glow.” Coren deadpanned his tone of voice clearly showing what category she belonged in, both. Wondering why he was doing the effort of explaining this to the obviously lost case, she didn't even know the difference between normal magic and a gnosis mark.
“I'll make it simple enough so that even you can understand. You can roughly divide magic in two categories. Magic that needs to be granted from a god or goddes. The mark of morwen that you spoke of is an example of that. Most people see that as a blessing unless its from an unsavory god.” Coren continued in the deadpan tone, hoping that she had enough brains to pick what he was saying up.
“The other category is the magic you don't need to be granted, but where you need to put in effort to learn it for yourself. Most people who learn that magic are distrusted though since there isn't a god telling them what to do or to punish them when they misuse it.” Coren completely left out the fact that that kind of magic drove the mage a bit weird. He didn't need everybody to know that.
He gave alea an annoyed look. “I hope you got that, because I'm not going to repeat it again.”

Alea bristled at the insult. "Well excuse me for never having heard of magic before! It's not my fault no one told me about it!" Never mind that she had a bad habit of nodding off during her education in Denval. She tended to only pay attention when something had immediate relevance to her life. After he explained about the difference between god magic and other magic, she only had more questions. "Okay, so, then, which magic has the glowing hands? Because I know I've seen those before. And wait a chime, how did they even know you'd done magic? What did you do?"

OOCCould try to make this longer if you want, but would require time I don't have at the moment. Let me know if you want more to work with :P

Coren rolled his eyes. “Everybody gets told about it, your problem is just that you never listen when anybody tries to tell you something. Don't go around blaming others for your shortcomings.” Coren did know what he was saying might be quite harsh, but honestly. He didn't care much at this moment.

AT her question about which magic had the glowing hand stuff coren just shrugged. How was he supposed to know that, just because he was a mage didn't mean he knew everything about it. “Can't really pin glowing hands on a single discipline, give more information about what it did if you really want to know. As for how they noticed I was using magic.. well, it was obvious if you where looking towards us from the outside. I rippedpart of my soul out of my body and was using that to interact with the world instead. Which was why I managed to hit you on the back of your head while I was in front of you.”

The road to hell is build by parents with good intentions

Postby Alea Davenport on October 7th, 2012, 2:09 am

Alea would have hotly defended her claim that she was never told about magic, but it occurred to her that it was true that she tended not to remember things that didn't seem important at the time, and so it was technically possible that she just hadn't paid attention back then. Still, if she'd ever seen magic before, she was pretty sure she would have noticed.

She blinked at his explanation of what he'd done. "Wait... so that was YOU who hit me from behind! Or... not you, but your magic hand." She grinned. "Cheap trick, not that it did you much good." To demonstrate her sentiments, she punched him in the arm, not quite as hard as she could, but with more-than-casual force.

Another thought made her frown again. "But that still doesn't explain why it's such a big deal. Why are they so angry that you're doing magic stuff? It's not like you actually hurt me." She managed to brush some newly forming bruises, and added, "Well, not more than you might have without magic. And I'm still pretty sure I could hurt you worse."

Coren just nodded at her exclamation that he was the one that hit her from behind. “Don't ever call magic a cheap trick. Its quite insulting to both the art and the mage who you are talking about.” He admonished her. “But yes that was me.” Coren winced when alea punched him in the arm, why in morwens name did she do that? Did she think voilence was a normal form of comunication or something.
He ignored her boasting that came after her admittance she didn't know why magic was hated.
“The problem is that I can do more then just pulling people around, alea.” Coren said. “I can do things normal people can't stand up against and I can do damage that while now still minor can't be healed by time nor healers. Most mages can either do that or other things that scares the crap out of the ones who can't use magic. Like creating life from nothing, manipulating ones soul or controlling the elements and many more.” Coren said in a patient tone. “Neither are we bound to a code and at the mercy of a god to keep those abilities. The lack of a leas of some sort of a leas or reassurance we won't get out of controll usually makes them even more uncomfortable around us. That and the fact that most mages usually get a bit weird in the head from what they do doesn't help the reaction of the crowd.”

The road to hell is build by parents with good intentions

Postby Alea Davenport on October 10th, 2012, 12:03 am

As Coren continued explaining things about magic, Alea realized something disturbing. He was... actually talking to her. Like, patiently, as if she were something other than an annoying pest. Had she hit him too many times on the head? She was about to express concern for his well-being, but the she realized this was a rare opportunity. She had to get as much information out of him as she could while he was still in a talkative mood.

"So, people don't like mages because they don't understand them, and can't control them, and also mages go crazy?" she summarized. She tried to relate this information to the current situation. "So, your parents kicked you out because they are afraid you'll hurt them? Or someone else? Are they right? Are you going to go crazy, like you said?"

These questions led her to wonder why someone would want to learn something that would lead to them being hated and feared by their closest friends and family. "Why did you decide to learn magic? Were you born with it?"
