Orion, Day of Summer 2(Early Evening), 507 AV Orion yawned as he peeked outside to check the time. It had been a long day and he was ready for it to be over. Twenty, maybe thirty patients today? Most of them with the most basic of problems. It was ridiculous. People coming in with cuts, scrapes, coughs, bruises. It could be tedious work, that of the doctor. It was the same sort of things day after day. But it's worth it, right? Orion sighed. It might get boring, but it certainly paid well. That was a plus. Glancing down the street, he spotted a man walking towards him, holding his left arm to his chest. "Like clockwork." Stepping back indoors he took out his bag of supplies and began prepping them, waiting for the soon to be patient. I'll treat this guy and then be out of here. You sure made being a doctor sound more glamorous, father. He greeted the man as he stepped in. "I'm Dr. Michaels, what seems to be the problem." He looked the man over. Middle aged with sun work skin. A fair amount of muscle to go with a rugged complexion. A laborer, most likely. With an occasional wince, the man began, "Was working up on my ladder and took a nasty fall." He frowned, obviously in pain. "Hope you can fix me up. Awfully young, though, aren't you?" He let out a small chuckle. "If I'm too young for you, I'm sure we can see how your arm heals on it's own." When the man's eyes widened, he reassured him. "It's only a jest, sir. Please, on the table," he said, motioning him over. "First things, is there any pain? If so, where?" Orion's questioning was mechanical. He had a list which he had studied with things to ask when deducing what was injured. It was much easier to repeat the list than have to deal with people on his own. "I heard a pop in my shoulder. It's throbbing pretty bad." the man explained. "Mmm-hmm." Orion looked the arm over, taking it in his hands. No swelling. Temperature feels normal. "Are you able to feel my touch, bend your hand, move it at all?" The man nodded. The arm itself was fine. No symptoms of a broken bone. Switching his focus to the man's shoulder, he noticed the swelling and slight displacement. "Dislocated it, did you?" He asked. When the man opened to reply, Orion cut him off. "Yes, I know you did." People. "Well, let's get this fixed. It might hurt, but we have to get this back in place. Please sit up straight. I'm going to manipulate your scapula and ro-" "But I've got a wife."A headache overcame Orion almost instantly. "Your shoulder blade. I'm going to rotate your shoulder blade. Your arm is supposed to fit nicely into the socket, but when you fell it knocked it out of place, just in front of the joint. That's the most common way this happens, so it's an easy enough fix. When i work your shoulder blade, your arm should move back into place itself." He nodded at the man. "Are you ready." When the man returned his nod, he began working on the shoulder. The movement created space between the two bones and allowed the arm to re position itself correctly in the joint. "Easy enough, right?" The man rubbed his shoulder, shaking his head. "Now we need to ensure your shoulder remains stable, so I'm going to put you in a sling, just to be safe." Orion pulled a 2x2yd piece of fabric out as well as removing a pair of scissors from his toolkit. After laying the fabric out flat, he cut it into a triangle. He then placed the mans elbow at the top point of the triangle, then centering his arm on the middle of the bottom side. Taking the two free points in his hands, he took one infront of the opposite shoulder and the other behind, tying it firmly. It rest on the area between the neck and shoulder, the arm resting at a natural angle with the hand just above the elbow in height. "And there we go. You're set for that." He reached into his healer's kit and pulled out some herbs. Dad had said something about oregano being good for swelling...so...I think that was it at least... "Ummm...yeah. Take this and make a tea out of it," he said, handing him a small pack of the herb. "Should help with the pain and swelling." He patted the man's good shoulder. "You're gonna need to avoid using that shoulder as much as you can for a couple months. Come back in and see me if you have any problems." The man looked crestfallen. "But my wife and children. I've got to feed them! What am I going to do!?" He knew the man wouldn't be able to work with that being the situation. Orion sighed and found his way to his coin purse. "It doesn't do me any good to make all this money if I give it all away." He put a handful of gold mizas in his hand. Before the man could think him, he spoke. "Please, don't say anything. And please don't tell anyone about this." He shooed the man out and began cleaning up. He would normally head straight home after work but not today. "I need a drink." |
NotesRemoved 2sm for oregano and 2sm for ~2yds of fabric needed to make a solid sling. Also 10GM given to the laborer
