After a few more minutes of frantic betting, a loud bell rang out as one of the yellow-shirted men began yelling "All bets are in! All bets are in!" The last of the transactions were wrapped up, and bouncers began shoving through the crowd to get the men through to the back stairs and down to the vault with their money. Betting slips were clutched in eager fists as a cheer of anticipation went up throughout the casino. _____ Downstairs, the cheer was easily heard by the fighters. A knock on the door warned Taith a moment before it was shoved open. "It's time," the bouncer said, grinning widely. "Head up the stairs, and wait in the doorway until they announce you, then head out to the ring. Play the crowd a little, if you know what I mean," he chuckled. _____ The cheers of the crowd had just begun to die down, leaving only a few impatient whistles and yells, when the bell rang out again and the announcer's voice bellowed above the noise. "Ladies and gentlemen!" he screamed, stepping into the center of the ring. "Welcome to this afternoon's event! I know most of you are used to being here well after the sun goes down," he said with a grin, which got a rolicking laugh out of several of the men and a few shouted insults, "but this fight needed to be seen in the light of day! You've all heard about our fighters, so let's get them out here and get this fight going, shall we?" he laughed, and the crowd cheered once more. "Tonight's fight will be one-on-one, and will end when I deem that a clear winner has emerged. Now without further ado, let's bring out your fighters! The challenger is an akalak with a powerful need to turn some poor human into pulp - Taithrosa!" |
