Midday 73 Day of Spring Three days after this thread

Occupying one of the only free standing buildings outside of Stormhold Castle, The Spinning Coin occupies space in a large warehouse above the docks but still in the castle and city proper. One end is made up of a giant stage. An enormous cage can be lowered onto the stage, for death matches. There are tables set up for card games, and a full mirrored length of bar keep participants good and drunk so they bet freely and their money flows. Space can be rented for special events (pig racing is popular), and there are mats on the floor for wresting. If there is a vice known in Syliras, it most likely is practiced here, under the vary noses of the Sylirans that guard them.

People wandering by can walk in, and most likely they will be instantly invited to a card game or two... or to toss some dice. Sometimes there are chickens or dogs to bet on, and sometimes even children in street fights reenacted. The owner, Gene, is normally out and about - reliably able to start a conversation, make small talk, put someone at ease, or show a beginner the new ropes.

Taith arrived just before the sceduled time. His form that of any other Akalak. He walked into the room and enjoyed the sits. His greyish silver eyes taking everything in. As he walked around he keep an eye out for Gene.

When he found the man he walked over to him and smiled his teeth flashing. "Hello. I am here as I promised."
Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity,
Find out the generation Where Gods began to be?
Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end?
Me thinks the Spirit whispers, “No man has found ‘pure space,’
Nor seen the outside curtains, Where nothing has a place.”

To Dance In The Ring (Dusk~Open)

Postby Dusk on May 8th, 2010, 7:24 pm

Crowds were gathered, and had been gathered for hours in anticipation of the fight. When Taithrosa finally showed up, those who were still outside hoping to get in turned to stare and gawk, and several cheers went up. A few men wearing distinctive black tunics with bright yellow shirts underneath grinned and began yelling out the betting odds, and the men and women outside gathered to put their money on one of the fighters.

When he made it to the front door, two of the bouncers had to grab him and quickly escort him through the crowd as people cheered and reached out to slap Taith encouragingly on the arm, or to jeer at him, or tell that he'd better win since they'd bet all their money on him. "Should've come in the back door, you idiot," one of the bouncers grumbled as he shoved the crowd aside to make room for them.

When they finally brought him to Gene, who was sitting at the edge of the bar watching the roiling masses with cold eyes, he just glanced at Taith and waved a hand. "Bring him downstairs. Fight starts in twenty minutes, get yourself changed and ready to fight. Stay out of sight until Jimi here come for you." And that was that, the boss now unconcerned with whatever his minions needed to do to make this day go smoothly - just so long as they did it.
PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

To Dance In The Ring (Dusk~Open)

Postby John Vicari on May 8th, 2010, 11:37 pm

John just let out a soft sigh as he waited for the fights to start. He spent most of his time this day in the spinning coin trying to make money but he really was not betting on many things. He heard that a fight was to take place that had more people come about more then normal for it was a Akalak and that alone would want people to bet and try to make a coin or two.

John however just stayed near the area waiting. He would be able to make a bet but he wanted to figure out how much and who for this could help him a lot in terms of getting what he wanted in terms of items and such. He heard people in the background making bets already and using the odds.

He knew that he would never make a fighter with his bad leg so he knew his skills did not go with bashing someones head in but in the other subtle areas of life like mind games. Yet he could not turn the fight in this sense with his magic nor could he do anything to help his odds.

So for now he just waited and let his time sit. He would still place a bet but with who he was not sure.

Sitting back on his chair, Sasin kept an eye on the door. He planned on seeing this Akalak before placing any bets. He seriously doubted that an akalak could be bested, but it was always better to be certain.

He frowned as the Akalak walked in. What in the flaming blue blazes was the point? This was an Akalak, in the prime of his life. And on the other hand, a human. Those were terrible odds. Akalaks were born fighters. Humans were soft. They couldn't outrun a Viper, they didn't have the senses of the Kelvic, nor the fighting ability of the akalak, nor the agility of the Symenstra. Their only strength was that they were good at many things. And being good at many things wouldn't help here.

He smirked, confident in his assessment, and stood up to place his bet.

"Twenty five gold on the Akalak."

Easy money.

To Dance In The Ring (Dusk~Open)

Postby Taithrosa Eldytia on May 10th, 2010, 3:27 am

Taithrosa avoided rolling his eyes at the man standing before him. No one had bothered to even tell him there was a back way into the building, but he was good enough of a sport not to let that concern him. Clearlly this guy was brawn and little verbal communication.

He nodded and follwed the underlings to his cell. Once in there he began to lossen his muscles by stretching. He pulled off his shorts and unless so type of uniform was provided stuck to just his pants. His body while strong as other Akalaks also had flexability. He strentched his leg muscles out and then worked on stretching his back and shoulders to give him flexibility. He knew that he had strenght, but he also knew that his size wasn't always to his advantage. So he worked on his flexibility as well.

OOC: Is any one else getting an odd stacking effect of post in this thread?

Taithrosa was left to his own devices for the time being, though there was, indeed, a loose pair of white linen pants left for him to wear in the fight. They were thin enough that his sapphire skin shone through it - which also ensured nothing could be hidden within them.

Upstairs, the betting men were waving their arms and collecting bets, writing down information and calculating odds faster than most people could say their names. By the time the fervor of the Akalak's entrance had died down, the odds were at 10-to-1 in favor of Taithrosa.

Women in short, too-tight dresses were making their way through the crowds and serving all manner of alcohol to anyone with a few coins and patience enough to wait their turn.

**OOC: I'm going to give this thread one more day open; tomorrow I will close the bets and start the fights. Get 'em in while you can!

John thought hard on the odds. Everyone was going to bet on Taithrosa due to his race however John never did like going with the flow of people. He placed 30 coins on the human. It was a large bet to him however he was hoping it would pay off well for if it did he would be buying a few items and make other people rich.

After his bet he just waited for he was done. Only the fighters could figure out who won and lost. Here was hoping something would be in his favour.

To Dance In The Ring (Dusk~Open)

Postby Tyuru on May 12th, 2010, 5:25 pm

How busy it was inside - Tyuru had to shoulder her way to the betting table. She had only just heard about the fight. Strange, she thought, that people would pay to see other people fight and die.

As she considered the odds, she turned to the person nearest her, intent on getting a second opinion. It was a young man, blonde and blue eyed. Tyuru, unsure now of initiating conversation, said, 'So, you know what I heard? I might be wrong, because I only heard one person say it, and that's not particularly reliable... anyway, I'm rambling. I heard Gene,' she jerked her head in his general direction, 'has some sort of bone he's picking with Pete, which is why he's setting Pete up against Taithrosa. I mean, who could expect Pete to win? Taithrosa's gonna beat him, for sure.' She hoped this would nudge the young man into giving her his opinion so she could better decide who to bet on.

I apologise profusely to anybody who may have been in a roleplay with me that I kind of started ignoring or that I haven't been answering. I haven't been on Mizahar in the last couple of months (not by my own choice, though!!). I think Tyuru needs some major character revision because I have been completely insensitive to people who have actually been through what she's experienced. I'm taking some time out to make her character more realistic and less insulting. Sorry again, and thanks.

To Dance In The Ring (Dusk~Open)

Postby John Vicari on May 13th, 2010, 5:48 pm

John turned his head at the sound of a soft female voice. She had copper tone hair which was longer then he would had guessed on a person and loose. Her brown eyes matched the hair yet the pale skin did not yet it could had made it all the better.

"Hello...yeah...most will think he will win as he is the larger target however its all a risk. So while this game is a risk I might as well take the largest risk and maybe win out. You see the odds are 10 to 1 with Akalak in favour. So people, almost everyone will bet on him and if he wins they will get some coin back however as everyone bets on him that betting pool will be less and less. Yet I am betting on the human for the sheer fact he has won in bad odds before and the fact the payout is much larger. I can just work a few more days to get my lost coin back however if they do win then I will make a nice winnings."

He said as he moved to her ear letting the words fill around her due to the loud room and he did not feel like yelling that information. He was not sure on betting and odds that much but he knew basic logic in the end.

"When in doubt bet small." Was the last parting words before he turned to the cage yet still letting his body stay close to the females in case she wanted to talk some more.

"Hm. That does make sense, now that I think about it. You must have done this before," Tyuru smiled teasingly. She turned to place her bet - a small one, both because of the advice given to her by the helpful young man and because she wasn't much one for gambling.

"Hmm... I'll put 10 of these," she shook some gold mizas on to the counter after extracting her money pouch from the pocket of her skirt, "on Pete. Hopefully he'll pull through."
