One bell after midnight

Volinir wanted a drink. A real drink. The only chance he had to try a mug of silver sliver was when it was being thrown at him, but that was enough to give him a craving. Unfortunately, the closest he ever came to a gold miza was when he had to polish his master's strongbox. So if he wanted to have his own pitcher, he'd need to borrow a miza... Or five.

Taking liberty with his master's strongbox would get him a beating at best, a swift death at worst, and just about any other rich man would treat him much the same. As such, he made for the poorer section of town, searching for a house with an open window. Sadly, Ravokians were a little wary of thieves, and every window was shut fast. But not all of them were stuck in their panes. In the dark, Volinir could see as easily as if it were the middle of the afternoon, and he saw a sliding window on one of the more solid looking houses just around the corner. He smiled grimly to himself, laid his hands against the walls, and started to climb. It wasn't exactly noiseless, but he wasn't about to wake any neighbors.

Petching Windows!(Giph)

Postby Giph on August 11th, 2012, 6:54 pm

Giph had been restless for a few day's at a time now, he hadn't had much luck with his regular pickpocketing attempts, either having to break of his approach because the victims had been more observant then he thought at first or having to make a quick getaway because he was caught with his hand already in the purse. He really needed to get some extra miza's otherwise he wouldn't be able to make his next rent and be able to pay for the food. So there was just one option left open. He would have to take the risk and try to break in and hope for a big hoal that would last through this dry spell.
He slung his prized crossbow over his back and walked out of his apartment, giving a curt nod to the guards, who really couldn't care less what he did unless he screwed over the other tenants. As he left the apartments he kept to the main roads for a while as he let his eyes adjust to the darkness, before making his way towards the poorer parts of the town.

Giph was silently sneaking through the poorer part of the town hoping to see a house that would be possible for him to break into, but still looked secure enough that there probably was something worthwhile inside and that he wasn't risking his neck for a few copper's and a pair of foul underwear.
Suddenly a bit of commotion around the block he was at the moment caught his attention. From what he was able to hear it was something grinding over rock. He slowly took his crossbow of his back and awkwardly loaded a new bolt in silence. Before he slowly made his way towards the unusual sound.
As he silently rounded the corner he raised his eyebrows at the sight, a figure had clambered up to a first story window, Not by gripping the wall like normal folks, but just putting his hand against it and he kept sticking! He raised his crossbow towards the man, clumsily taking aim.
“What the petch are you doing, Freak.” The young boy said in a firm, but soft tone. Not that it really mattered in the silence of the street.

Volinir's heart jumped into his throat. Freak. They always called him a freak. Especially before they did something rash. The Symenestra swallowed uncomfortably and looked down to see who was threatening him this time. He blinked a couple times in surprise when he saw the young boy carrying a crossbow. Perhaps he wasn't the most brilliant detective in the world, but he knew when someone was wielding a weapon for the first time. He slowly made his way back to the ground, chewing nervously on his lip. "What? A man can't enjoy a nice rooftop view?" he said slightly irritably. When (if) his feet made contact with the ground again, he raised his hands over his head to show he meant no harm.

“Looked more like the inside view of the building then a view from the rooftops to me.” Giph shot back with a grim chuckle. “Besides I heard you fiddling with that window when I was still a few streets away” He kept his shaky aim on the figure as it climbed back towards the ground. He shivered once. He really looked like a freaking spider when he did that. “So don't try to ly, or you might be a freak on a stick instead of just a freak.” He replied in the most serious and authoritative tone he could. Which wasn't very, with his short size and all, then again he was the one of the two that was armed.
“Now if you are a human I'm the voice. So why don't you say what you as you lay yourself down on the ground?” he demanded of the thing. “And are you somebodies slave or not?” the capitalist in the boy's mind really hoped that he wasn't, if he could subdue the thing and bring it to the slave market he might get a month rent out of it. If not more! If he wasn't, well he should be trying to find out whose slave it was, maybe it was one that had escaped, and then he could still get a finders reward.

Petch. He probably should have expected as much in Ravok. The Symenestra never gets a break in Ravok. The spindly man grimaced at the boy's demands, sighing quietly to himself. He'd get a thrashing for certain if he got turned in by a little boy, even one with a crossbow. Which meant he had to escape. Either way, this bastard wasn't going to get the satisfaction of of a groveling Symenestra. Volinir slowly turned around, plastering a derisive smile on his face. "This is the first time you've pointed a weapon at someone, isn't it, azo?" If the boy got flustered, Volinir would take a step forward. Unless he got closer, he was completely at Giph's mercy. If he did... He didn't know what then.

“Not even the first, you aren't a someone, you are a something.” He stressed the last part of the word he was sent a bit reeling from the fact the non-human had managed to see his awkwardness with his weapon in the darkness. Maybe the freak could see in the dark better then a decent human. Probably to make up for their incompetence in every other field. He tightened his left hand around the trigger.
“Now why don't you stop delaying and just show your slave mark to me and lay down on the ground before I decide to lower your value with a hole in your chest.” He tried to make himself seem more confident with his bluster, trying not to let it show through to much that the freak before him was spot on about the fact he didn't have a lot of practice with the crossbow and it would be more luck then skill if he managed to hit him in a way that wouldn't kill him.

His eyes narrowed. They always got stuck on this. Spider. Freak. Merchandise. No one in this city ever saw him as anything more than an oddity or a number on a chart. It made him feel like... Well, something like a surrogate. "What makes you so sure I'm a slave, hm?" he retorted as he took another step. It was true, of course, but the longer he kept him occupied the better. A couple more strides, and he'd be practically pushing against the crossbow.

If he was unlucky, the boy would shoot him. He hadn't yet though, so either he was thinking of selling him: which wasn't impossible, he did mention lowering his value. If he froze up, a quick kick in the stones would (hopefully) buy him time to run. If he backed up... There was always the murky black canal that marked the border of their street. Volinir took another step. "Perhaps you're just short sighted... Or greedy?"

Giph narrowed his eyes at the freak as it took a step closer towards him. “You aren't a human, so your only purpuse in life is to be used as a slave. You should even be honored we bother with your kind.” Giph knew that would rub the man the wrong way, every non-human always thought they where equal to them. Or if they where really deluded, Better.
“Now if you aren't a slave that just means I'll get a better deal when I sell you.” the freak took another step towards him.
“Take another step freak, and I swear to rhysol, I'll put a hole in your hide.” He snarled. When the non-human in front of him didn't heed his warning and just took another step while spouting some nonsense about him being greedy or shortsighted. He made good on his warning, took aim at the freak in front of him, gave a mental prayer to rhysol and fired at the idiot who kept provoking the guy who had a crossbow aimed at him from less then one and a half meters.
As soon as he fired he took a quick step back, in case he missed and began pulling back the string of his crossbow, his eyes firmly on the target he had fired at.

"Take another step freak, and I swear to Rhysol, I'll put a hole in your hide."

That was all the motivation Volinir needed to duck, the bolt passing over him and nicking his scalp. He was fortunate, extremely so. An inch lower, and his skull would have shattered. He hissed in pain, his fangs extending as he exploded forward at the same time Giph was pulling the string back. The good of having such a light skeleton came with the bad. He got hurt easily, but he also moved fast. Very fast. He drew an arm back, his ebony claws glinting in the moonlight as he swiped at the would-be-slaver's thigh.

Giph let out a small curse as he saw the thing dodge, at least he hadn't shot the thing through the head, that would be really bad, as they didn't pay for dead things in the slave market.
While was prepared for the thing to charge him as soon as he shot his arrow and he missed. But he wasn't expecting for the freak to move that fast! He tried to defend himself, but the the thing's black claws sliced four shallow cuts in his upper thigh. The young boy winced in pain but wasn't going to let this piece of shyke walk all over him. He abandoned trying to restring his crossbow and instead swung the rather heavy and sturdy crossbow at the attacker's torso area, hoping to at least drive him back and regain the upper hand a bit.
