Character Concept
Viq is Viq. A jack of many trades, but master of none. He has dabbled in over a dozen disciplines in the past, but gained nothing to show for it from the process, or so he thinks. While his interests might seem unending, his laziness tends to get the better of him, before he is bored of one plaything and moves on to the next. And while it is true that some disapprove of this wanton search for self-satisfaction, he doesn't seem to be paying much attention. Constantly ever-flowing, never focused, his mood often seems to only have two states: cranky or playful. Though he's found himself in creative lethargy the past few years, he is hoping that some day soon the chance to embark on a voyage of learning and self-discovery will appear; a chance he'll take without hesitation.
Character History
Born Djefir Snowsong (a name that never saw much use outside official business) to Kanus and Haira Snowsong, he was bestowed the moniker Viq by his friends at a young age. Viq grew up in Avanthal, a fact he himself loathes to this day. His unbridled spirit was ill-fitted to the rigid programming of Vantha society.
This, however, is not to say he is ungrateful of the blessed life he was given by his family; on the contrary, he loves his family more than anything else, bar himself.Though Kanus Snowsong was a papermaker, his life-long dream was to become a geologist; one that he never saw bear fruit. And that is the reason why Viq can now recall many an evening of receiving his father's customary -almost trite- advice: "Never let anyone tell you what you can and can't do, my son", he would say, somehow instilling in his son the inklings of rebellion against social order.
His mother, a rare Skyglow-born beauty, has only been eager to dote, to the point perhaps that Viq could be described as a spoiled child. Most if not all of Viq's ethical code is derived from his mother's parables and fables, which he would keenly absorb while growing up.
In the end, slowly but surely, he grew up to become an obedient son. He went on to study gadgeteering, a veritable challenge in Avanthal. Thankfully, the library proved a great ally to his cause. However, as with all his endeavors, it was abandoned for something new, the embrace of a beautiful Drykas boy who went by the name of Tod. But this was not to last, as Tod had to depart with his family for Cyphrus, leaving Viq in search of a new interest.
He soon found the same in literature and language, which he pursued for some time. He read the great scholars of literary theory, eagerly absorbing their wisdom. He studied a few wadj containing Arumenic lores, and many more filled with mundane recordings of transactions and contracts. He even managed to discover a plinth containing text written in a dialect of the ancient tongue in a local cave, barely managing to understand the gist of it.
And life went on, and Viq found a new interest, this time in magic. He only had the chance to study the ways djed could be used to protect, but that was more than enough for him; Viq is not known for his violent nature. And then was music, which left him with nothing but his oud as a keepsake, after the djed storm of 512 swept his house and his old musical scores with it.
And now, in the aftermath of that storm, Viq continues his old life, hoping that one day, he will have the opportunity to exchange that boring old life with one of wonder and adventure.
