Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

70 Fall 512

Here was were many things came through. The relay station was nothing more than a tent, with wooden shelves and things stacked all about. Along with this, was a single Akalak at a desk, and many people running about.

Here was were people, goods, and anything possibly needed, was sent out and on. Stacks of arrows. Swords. Shields. Spears. A few small piles of leather armor.

Here people were broken up into pairs. Runners, and escorts. The runner carried the supply, whatever it might be, from this relay station, to its destination. The escort went along with them, making sure they did not get hacked to bits, or killed, perhaps by a monster that slipped by into the city. Though hopefully those would be few and far between.

Upon walking in, a person would report to the man at the desk, and tell him there name. In return, he would group you with your partner, and send you off on a task. Then you would be out of the tent, and off to wherver you had been sent.

This was one of many relay stations, with things inside, set up all over the battlefield, in the city, and wherever needed. The higher the number, the farther you were from the action. Which meant this particular relay station, was right behind the long range weapons, catapults, trebuchets, and in front of them the archers.

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

Postby I'sona on September 30th, 2012, 6:49 am

I’sona wasn’t sure why she was so surprised, the attack was not unknown though the preparation had seemed sudden and filled with a sense of urgency. And she lived within a city of warriors it only made sense that eventually a war would find them…

It didn’t stop her mind from swirling around reasons to run for not the first nor the last time. The Charoda could easily leave, flee to the sea and never looked back…but she didn’t. She should but rather than leave she found herself going towards her volunteered position. She had chosen to participate but she didn’t have to fight, she shouldn’t have too but there were no guarantees. The more she thought the worse her pulse echoed, the worse her own doubt grew and the worse her teeth chattered.

In the end it didn’t matter because she still ended up at the tiny tent, still patted her waterskin at her side and still slipped into the tent. I’sonas’ eyes sought the weapons and her face withered, she didn’t want to fight. But she wouldn’t have to. Her choice, it would be her choice to fight, she could choose not to. She just had to remember that. It would be her mantra, her choice.

By the time she reached the desk she had stood with her mouth opening and closing with only strange gasps coming out for a few chimes before she was able to sputter out something similar to her name. They seemed far from what was to come but her ears echoed with sounds that had yet to actually reach her ears. “I is—am—I’sona, to reporter for my job.”

oocSorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, .... sorry, sorry, sorry .... Did I mention sorry? I got inactive with Mizahar, and I got to remind myself to keep up to date as I slowly jump back in.

Dex was told by the library staff that he needed to go to one of the tents with big blue people and lots of paper and stuff. This took him awhile to find, especially since once he found the tent, he was then sent to another tent exactly like the first one. After wondering around about 5 of these tents, he finally found where they wanted him.

Coming into the tent into ferret form, he simply walked up to the desk there and flashed into his full clothed human form. Honestly, he was getting happy with the new collar, because it meant he didn't have to stop and put clothes on, while freezing off parts of his body in the fall that he didn't prefer to freeze.

Howling was soaring above the tents somewhere, not wanting to be on the ground under all the dozens of feet, which Dex had some issues with. But, he was promised shiny things, so he had to come.

As Dex flashed into human form, walking to the desk, he saw a funny green lady, with fishy bits. Ignoring her, he got straight to the point with the akalak.

"Someone said I could get shiny things?"

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

As the ferret kelvic appeared in front of the Akalak, he gave him an annoyed look. Kelvics... Petching kelvics? He understood using the female ones, but he did not get why they let male ones into town. Really, they were useless, little better than fodder for the front line. Not even good enough for that, they would be dead within the first attack.

Regardless, he had been assigned a kelvic as a runner. And run he had better, he would see to it.

Pointing at the "fish lady" I'sona, and the kelvic ferret, he handed over a scroll to the kelvic, who was the runner.

"Alright, you two, you are together. Take this scroll to the forward medical station, and bring back whatever they have for us. See if they need any equipment or materials, or supplies. Then get back on the double."

Looking back down at his papers, he shuffled them around, only to look back up at the kelvic. "Well get going kelvic! Hopefully this 'lady' here knows how to fight. Now out of my sight!"

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

Postby I'sona on October 13th, 2012, 7:36 am

The man was gruff and more than a little intimidating. Most of the Akalak looked like he did but she hadn’t heard any so brisk, it startled her a bit and she had wondered at first if ‘Kelvic’ referred to her or the man beside her. At least she thought he was a man. But she wasn’t sure if he had really been a ferret either. But this was not the time for thoughts like those and she watched the scroll carefully. They had to take it somewhere. Somewhere that she may have to fight and actually use her weapon. Her throat tingled at the thought and she had the strangest feeling of having swallowed bad kelp.

Unsure of what to do with herself she realized the other probably looked as confused as she was and righted herself. She had chosen to do it. She would do it. She wouldn’t have to fight, of that she would try her hardest, she would.

Turning to who she assumed was the Kelvic she plucked up the scroll with a soft thank you and handed it to her ‘partner’. “I am I’sona and you are?”

She was briefly pleased with how right her Common sounded and smiled brightly at the other and gestured back the way they came. They should go before the Akalak yelled at them again and if there was a medical center people could be injured and she didn’t want to stay there long or cause something to go wrong because they didn’t get the scroll.

“We is going.” She told the Akalak with a nod and waited for the other closer to the entrance.

Dex saw the fish lady, and after assessing a few things, realized that the two of them would be running paper pieces and stuff for these akalaks.

"I am Dex."

He turned back to the akalak though, for one very important issue.

"I'll need snacks. Rats, preferably, mice if I have too. If I have to ferret around, I need food and shiny things."

Looking at the fish lady, he realized that having a fish for a companion might not be a good thing, considering Howlwing was waiting.

"Mmm, let's go. I introduce you to Howlwing before you tell me which way to go."

Taking a few steps out from under the pavilion after he grabbed the paper, he whistled and waved up to Howlwing, a bird sized shape up in the sky. Within a few seconds, she circled once, then dived down, silver feathers sleekly pressed against her body, a dark missile heading for a definite crash, head first. Impossibly, she flared her wings out, spinning her rear end under body, slowing her descent incredibly, into a soft landing on her paws, completely unhurt. With a sharp meow, she brushed and twirled around Dex's legs. However, when she picked up the scent of I'sona, her eyes got big, her tail snapped back and forth, and she dropped to a prowl, an almost comical lick across her face.

"Howlwing, no! She is to big to eat." He said, before turning to the fish lady. "This is Howlwing. She'll be around while we run around. Now, where do we take this paper?"

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

It would be clear by looking at him, that the Akalak was getting annoyed. He had let out a blast of bluster, to show these two who was in charge, and instead of saying yes sir and racing off, he was staying for a talk and to answer some questions that had nothing to do with the fight.

Pulling out another bit of bluster from deep within, he bellowed even louder in reply than he had previously.

"You petching volunteered you petching Cerulest. That means you work! Know if you get there and back fast, maybe I will find you something to eat. But if you don't get moving, I will be feeding you to dogs. Now move!"

Once they left the station, the Akalak would shake his head, and turn to the next pair assigned to him. He didn't expect to see the two again, would be surprised if they didn't die 3 feet from the entrance.

Once they did indeed decide to leave, they would find that there were many people running around, several running to the front line, which is were most of the noise was coming from. If they followed the main noise, they would find the forward medical station was just behind the artillery area, which was at the rear of the front-line.

This medical station was a large tent, pavilion style, similar to ones used by the Drykas. A pair of guards flanked its entrance, and would question them as to what they wanted.

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

Postby I'sona on October 20th, 2012, 11:11 pm

I’sona flinched away from the bird-like creature with a shout of surprise but nodded nervously at Dex. So long as he kept the thing from trying to nibble at her…her head shook softly. They had other things to worry about. Important things but she really wished it wasn’t looking at her like it was going to take a chunk out of her ankle.

Her head shook again and she straightened up, looking around nervously. As she took in the sight outside the tent, people darted to and fro, Akalak, Konti, Human, Charodae and whatever else. They moved with purpose, intent and so would she. “We is going to ‘the forward medical station’”.

It was parroted easily enough and she searched for it before turning to her companion.

“You is leading the way and I is watching behind you.” She could see what was likely other runners, people in pair darting between the tents and twitched anxiously. “I is thinking it is over there.”

Her arm waved in the direction of the noise and towards most of the people and waited for Dex to go forward, her eyes darting around nervously. Looking for things she hoped would never come ad hoping her eyes wouldn’t rest on someone who would be bleeding. The Charoda wasn’t second guessing but she was sure she did not want to see the effects of this battle.

Dex looked sideways at her odd speaking. She spoke like ... like when he talked to a badger. The "words" were there, but they were kinda off. When she pointed towards a tent and said that he was to lead the way, he shoo'd Howlwing out of the mass crowd of people.

Picking up into a running start, he jumped up, in a diving forward motion, before flashing into his ferret form. Being able to go straight from clothes to ferret form was becoming very useful. As he landed on all four small feet, already running, he took in where his limited sight could still see. His sense of smell was almost useless, since all the smells of people mingled in a giant mix, and weren't quick enough to tell him where everyone was. Thankfully, his somewhat weak sight caught movement easily, so he simply weaved back and forth towards where he remembered seeing the tent.

His rush was somewhat because of the akalak's offer to maybe find him something to eat when he came back. But it was also because of the adrenaline that was starting to pump into him. Through his contact with the ground, he felt something thundering behind him, which he assumed was the fish lady.

However, being a short, small, ferret in a sea of giant, blue feet wasn't the best of plans. While Dex was weaving, more then once had he almost either tripped someone, or been stepped on, which he had to deal with by bouncing sideways. It was like an odd form of dancing, having to go back and forth, while always going forward.

As he neared the tent, he picked up the smell of alcohol, metal, and bodily scents. He flashed into human form just as this akalak stepped in front of him, blocking the entrance.

Attack on Riverfall[Relay Station 1]

The Akalaks at the entrance would bar them, and ask why they were there. If they explained themselves, and showed the scroll they were delivering, they would be allowed in.

Inside of the big tent, several people were running around. Others were waiting, and still others were going through shelves of supplies, trying to find things. The middle of the room was filled with several tables, apparently were medical work could be done. However for know the medical tent was free of injured or hurt people. After all, the battle had not yet started.

As they came in, one of the people standing around over a table covered in papers, looking through some sheaves, would see them coming in, and come over.

"Ah, another scroll? Were from? Ah the relay station."

Taking the scroll, he opened it, and read it once. Once done he tossed it over his shoulder and walked back to the table. However that was not all, as he tossed it away, it suddenly flared a flame on one part, and then the entire scroll crumbled to dust.

Assuming this surprised them, the Akalak grinned and turned back to the two.

"Just a little safety feature, so those don't get misplaced and read by someone they shouldn't, or to keep away prying eyes. Since it was intact when it got to me, I assume you did not try to read it."

Going through the papers, the Akalak took out a long piece of parchment, and began writing on it. He then wrapped it up, and handed it back to the person who had handed him the first one.

"Well off you go, bring that back to the station."

With that he turned back to his papers, going through them, and ignoring the duo.
