Mao may outwardly appear friendly and innocent but it's made apparent from the beginning that she is, indeed, a killer (although when dealing with strangers she is quite deceptive about it). She thirsts for blood, she's feisty, haughty and stubborn. She is also easily angered and doubly opportunistic. And although she attempts to keep it hidden at all costs, she yearns for someone to love and to be loved in return. It is in her core as a Kelvic to strive to become the perfect companion, but she is constantly trying to fight it, because it goes against her very being, her very personality and the way she sees life. At times she can become relaxed, especially after a full meal, where a full tummy means she becomes drowsy and affectionate, not much different to a common house cat.
Something that can be relatively noticeable about her from the minute someone meets her is the fact that she is primarily ruled by her bestial self. She is more cat than she is woman, and that marks her as a more dangerous individual. Likes: Raw meat, blood, trees, adrenaline rushes, sleeping, sex, open areas, being shifted.Dislikes: Enclosed spaces, cages, collars, humans, rules, authority other than her bond mate's, fruits, insects, more humans, pretty much everyone other than Navis. Don't fuck with her. Mao was born to wolf Kelvic parents who found their home in a pack of like-minded individuals whose sole purpose were to be guardians to a local wealthy landlord in the neighboring city of Zeltiva. They were quite fond of this job, and rarely if ever, complained about the lack of true payment they received for their services, because they only craved the satisfaction of pleasing the master. Many civilians in Zeltiva came to know this band of wolf Kelvics mainly because they often took to their beast forms to intimidate enemies, rather than engage in combat. However, the year after Mao was born, tragedy befell the Kelvics when their pack was accused of ransacking the market for food during one of the notorious shortages. There was, at the time, no way to disprove the allegations and thus the pack was persecuted by the notably violent individuals of the city and hunted.
Mao's mother took her daughter to the edge of the city, handed her a bag full of supplies to last her several weeks and instructed her to leave at once, and to not return. Mao, having grown to love and trust each member of her pack refused this, and begged her mother to let her stay, but to no avail. Still, as she watched her mother return to the city to help protect her pack mates, Mao crept up the side of a cliff overlooking the city, and watched in horror as her family was torn apart and slaughtered like lambs. She clenched the rocks beneath her nails and hissed into the howling wind, her anger boiling deep in her blood. She could feel the hot tears stream down her cheek as she turned and ran, ran as hard as she could and away from the tragedy that befell her.
For months she traveled the lands of Mizahar, passing from city to town, never staying for more than a day, eager to set off on foot once more to escape the reality of what had occurred. One night, as she sat down on a grassy patch beneath the shade of a large tree, she opened her pack of goods only to find nothing in there but a simple claw tied to a sturdy string of leather. After inspecting it for several minutes, she found the initials of her late father's name carved into it, and she realized that her mother had placed this in her pack as a reminder of her heritage. For this she was grateful, but her hatred of the humans of Zeltiva was far more prominent.
Onwards she continued with her journey to the land of Taldera, honing her hunting skills along the way and often taking to the night to prowl through fields of grass in search of prey. But she did not linger there for long. She would kill, eat then be on foot again, searching for a place that called to her, and provided a suitable hunting ground for a cat as large as her. Needless to say, Mao was very content to arrive in the jungles of Falyndar, where she makes her home 'til this day, and where she has spied upon the resident Myrians, who have much in common with her to her pleasant surprise... |
