Fall 13, 512

Asha stepped toward the doorway of Scintillating Scents and stopped before the doorstep. Already her nose detected a myriad of scents flowing through the door and open windows, most were light and delicate but a few heavier musks pulled through. The smell was intoxicating yet made her stomach knot at the pungency. With one deep breath she stepped forward with one black furred foot and entered the shop. Her chocolate eyes were assaulted by the brilliant reds, purples, oranges, and yellows of bursting blooms and she had to blink her eyes a few times to adjust.

Asha began to slowly shuffle her way through the indoor garden that was present before her. She weaved through rows of flowers, reaching out occasionally with a thick finger to brush a petal and soon enough she caught sight of the actual shop and her steps became more purposeful. This new room held rows of potted plants that were just as bright and decadent. Clay jars lined shelves and it seemed impossible but somehow the scent of the room was even more rich and cloying then the scent of the previous. It made Asha feel lightheaded and she had to concentrate on continuing her way back towards the shop counter.

“Hello?” Asha called and let her gaze sweep across the room. The scent of the room was so strong she had almost forgotten what she had come here for and her call seemed forlorn because of it. Ah yes she had hoped to purchase a perfume at the establishment but now she wasn’t positive if she would be able to handle the pungent scents they sold. Perhaps it would be less intense in smaller doses or so she hoped. However she supposed that even if it was incredibly aromatic it would be just as well and serve its purpose. Long had she walked past the Petal of Tranquil Slumber where the tanners and butchers worked and almost been sick from the wafting copper scent of blood and burning flesh. She had a particular aversion to that area and desired a small vial of perfume to dab beneath her nose and block the dreaded odors.

Practically a Paradise of Pugent Perfumes (Nasrin)

Nasrin sighed for what was possibly the thousandth time that day. She'd been working at the perfume shop for a little less than two weeks now, and had come to realize that customers were actually something of a rare occurrence. Their wares were moderately expensive luxury goods and the citizens of The Spires did not buy them all that often, leading to many days spent delicately misting the flowers, wandering to and fro from the garden to the workshop, and making copious amounts of notes on possible new combinations. Tika often flitted away to visit that Dhani poisonmaker, leaving Nasrin to man the desk, which was what she was doing now.

She was hunched over the front desk, cheek resting upon a stack of papers, deeply occupied with scratching a doodle of a daisy into the wooden surface with a quill when she heard someone call out:

"Hello?"

She shot up, standing straight and attempting to rub the reddish imprint the desk had left on her cheek away. She also quickly shuffled her papers to cover the half-finished doodle guiltily. A Jamoura made its way into the actual shop area, approaching the front desk, seeming a bit lost. Nasrin made an educated guess that the Jamoura was female, judging by the small size, but her eye was still untrained in picking out the specific differences in the race.

She smiled as she had been trained to do by Tika, and bowed her head slightly.

"Welcome to Scintillating Scents. I can help you?"

Practically a Paradise of Pugent Perfumes (Nasrin)

Asha smiled as she spotted the woman and her smile broadened as she noticed the woman seemed to possess four arms. Well now, that was interesting. Four-armed women were rather rare in the Spires and Asha delighted in all things new and interesting. She stepped towards the woman behind the counter and tried to ignore the parade of scents crossing her nostrils that also seemed as though they were trying to addle her mind. It was difficult to concentrate with such pungent odors.

“Yes, at least I hope so. My name is Asha and, well, I’m looking for a perfume I suppose. “ she shrugged and let out a rough chuckle. She was never very good at beginning conversations, particularly with shopkeepers. She knew that these sorts of interactions had a language and etiquette all their own but she felt quite unaware of the actual details of such. Oh well, she had blundered through these things many times and things rarely turned out poorly. With a little more confidence, Asha took another two large steps with her black-furred legs until she was only a foot or two from the counter.

“I’m not quite sure how to go about finding and choosing a perfume. There are many lovely ones in here, I’m sure, but the scents are so mingled together I’m not sure I could pick one. And they all smell very flower like. Not that I’m against flowers of course, I’m just not sure that’s what I want in a perfume. What other kinds do you have here?” Asha asked and turned her head to look at the rows and rows of perfume vials. The thought of smelling each one to try and find an appealing scent made her already tense stomach gurgle and knot. She hoped the woman hadn’t heard her stomach’s protests. She wondered briefly if the four-armed woman would be offended if she plugged her nose but decided against that course of action. She had chosen to come here and needed to deal with it. She ought to have prepped and come here a few times before. The shop had never held much importance in her mind, as she typically didn’t care what she smelled like, and she had never been exposed to its myriad scents.

Practically a Paradise of Pugent Perfumes (Nasrin)

Postby Nasrin on December 7th, 2012, 12:35 am

Nasrin raised one thin eyebrow by a near imperceptible distance, in both amusement and bemusement. From what she had gathered, Jamoura were an extremely long lived race, and that meant that this particular one had likely had years upon years to learn what was considered the proper way to interact with a shopkeeper. However, she seemed to be somewhat uncomfortable, although Nasrin was by no means well-versed in the intricacies of Jamouran facial expressions. When she'd first come to The Spires, she had scarcely been able to tell their emotions apart at all; to her, their faces were simply too foreign in structure to have any kind of comparison.

Nodding her assent, she made a sweeping gesture with her two left arms, indicating the shelves in that direction. She'd been practicing using her arms individually, since the 'extras' tended to make some customers uncomfortable, but so far she still had to be actively thinking about it to avoid same-sided arms from acting together.

"Floral is stronger scent, yes. Tends to overpower other types. Perfumes have what we call families. Basic families, floral, oriental, wood, fresh. I think for you, wood and fresh good scents. Light, refreshing."
