Description: The falls come from the glacier fed Twin Lakes, and start the Sanikas River. It also signals the last leg of the journey uphill to the gate. A wide bridge crosses over the plunge pool and the neck of the rapids. As a visitor crosses the bridge, they have the perfect view point to see down the Sanikas Valley is the rapids of the Sanikas River. Looking towards the waterfall, visitors will some time see Inarta releasing feathers out from the cliff to the rock face below. Nestled throughout the rock face are nest for birds of prey.
The Katshika Falls is normally a narrow waterfall no more than twelve feet wide at the top. It cascades down the rock face hitting a few rocks here and there. On a windy day, a light spray comes across the stone bridge cooling off the visitors. During the high of summer the waterfall stretches to double its width, and crossing the bridge feels like heading into a rainstorm.
Though the stone bridge appears to be made of simple stone, upon closer examination the masonry of the bridge is excellent. Cut groves in between the stones allow the water to drain back into the river from the spray of the waterfall. The holes are small enough to allow a hand to squeeze into it, but not a foot or hoof. The side rails are cut to help provide carts that slip a steady stone wall to slide against.
