He listened as she read the cards, his excitement growing as she quite accurately (if vaguely) described him. A nervous energy took presence in his chest, light as heated air, swirling, as it always did when he was on the edge of something important. Then she asked a question he was completely unprepared for.
"The past...? I hadn't even thought of that," he said, his surprise plain as day upon his face. "Ye, yeah. Anything you can tell me," he said, with his smile replaced by a blind, off-guard interest.

[OPEN] 8th of Winter 512, A Star Entering the Dark

The slightest but of mischief found itself in the glimmer of Amelia’s black eyes as she spotted how off-guard she had caught the man. If someone is confused, they are much more likely to pay more for rambling that has no actual meaning. ”very well then, with your approval I’ll have a look in your past” she said with a light voice, cheerful tone. The least thing she wanted to do was scare away a customer.

Amelia began taking cards from her deck. She pulled the first card out and placed it on the bench ”this card is your past” she began explaining every cards meaning as she pulled out another one and placed it a row higher than the card representing his past ”this card is your present and this” she pulled out 3 cards and placed them on the side of the card that stood for his present ”your future, or your fixed future…we’ll get into that latter” Amelia chuckled as she put the deck away for now.

She toke the card that was to represent her customers past and flipped it over, revealing the ’High Priestesses’ what put Amelia to ease, was that she didn’t have to think much regarding this customer, just lay out what she saw ”This card is known as the High Priestess, It’s a card that stands for knowledge, I take it you have devoted a big part of you to learning…but it’s turned so perhaps you had to leave your mentor?” a question that wasn’t really expecting an answer. Amelia didn’t honestly care and she assumed he wouldn’t really wish to speak so she tapped her finger on the card that stood for his present. She flipped it over and was quite shocked to see ’five of wands’ she was used to seeing this card turned, it was a twisted card representing crime and wonderings. She was confused to see it but none the less ”This card represents….it’s….tell me, do you know magic?” she questioned, that could explain the crime. In Ravok magic isn’t considered a common art and some forms of magic are forbidden.

He listened and watched intently as she continued pulling and reading the cards. While her specific details were slightly off, the told him the archetype of the card, and the archetypes were certainly right. He grew even more shocked as she explained the High Priestess; how right it was! The plans and expectations for him had always been to become a high intellectual, weather as a mage, politician, doctor-anything that was 'above' the rest of the world. He had no interest in it, and had left before completing even the standard education from his home.
And then that. Magic. His eyes grew wide and sharp. Technically, he hadn't broken the law because he had only learned magic illegal in his homeland after leaving it. Perhaps one of the crafts he knew was banned here? He looked at her for a few moments, hesitant and wary. "Yes. Magic is a bit more common where I'm from. I learned one or two extra types since leaving home that were banned there. I didn't think that was illegal."

Casually she looked up at her client and tried to think of an answer, after all Amelia knew little about magic and the few things she knew were that it was dangerous. Then again she was curios of it enough to ask everyone she could about a demonstration. ”Well, Magic in Ravok is kept under control…you should know that magic is dangerous” it made sense, she had heard that leeching was completely forbidden in Ravok and Reinmacy was highly under control.

”I wouldn’t say it’s illegal, but it isn’t common and most is looked down on, even the institute here is more to teach control than actual usage…well…as much as I know” she confessed, looking down on the 3 cards that stood for the man’s fixed future and decided that this discussion was not worth the time and with a tap on one of the cards she flipped it open, then the second and finally the last of the 3. The Wheel of fortune, The hanged man, Eight of Wands She couldn’t say the cards were unusual, just blurry and a lot of it was now left to guessing as she didn’t really know the cards well, after all Amelia ha a lot to learn ”This card is known as the Wheel of fortune, it is known to symbolize unusual events, unusual losses or gains, it doesn’t mean much on it’s own but this card that is known as the Hanged man” Amelia explained when tapping her finger on the card of the man ”It makes it clear, the card is a bit more positive than the name, it explains that the wheel will grant you the opportunity to escape boredom, it will grant you something to be…to improve yourself, but it will be something you least expected and the final card…it’s the Eight of wands, it means a journey and love, free lands and meadows…I’d say your future lies in the Sea of Grass” she explained with a smile, knowing she must have misread something, but couldn’t really be bothered.

Trychu raised his eyebrows at the mention of the Sea of Grass. "My mother was from the Sea of Grass. I'm not interested in going back there." He looked down at the cards again, pondering what other meanings could be drawn from them. They were all vague, though, and the reader seemed to be rushing-it seemed she was either in a hurry or had lost interest. He looked back up at her and smiled.
"I'm getting the impression that's the entire reading. It's been helpful. Thank you," he said warmly.

OoC: about how much coinage is equal to fifteen dollars?
And is it just Trychu and my inexperience with Mizahar and PbP, or am I not interesting you anymore?

Amelia was glad she had gotten at least something correctly, after all her skills of reading weren’t good to begin with and having to deal with cards that didn’t seem to pop up often made it just worse. ”I’ve heard that it’s a beautiful place…from what I have heard, better than Ravok…wonder why you left” she said a bit carelessly as she knew she’d be going away soon and there wouldn’t be much to regret in her speech when it comes to a stranger that has just arrived. Sure she wasn’t doing much good to the city as she technically put it down, but her hearth seemed to still belong to the city of knowledge, Zeltiva.

As he smiled at her and even thanked her, Amelia felt a shiver of guilt. She knew that she wasn’t even doing her best job and was trying to run away from the man, while he was being this nice and polite. Politeness alone wasn’t a common trait in men, none the less accompanied by a warmth from ones hearth. ”I am happy my reading was of some use to you, maybe I’ll offer you another one as time passes and perhaps, we meet in the hearth of Ravok” she said referring to the temple of Rhysol, knowing that mentioning a tavern as a place to find her wouldn’t be a good advertisement.

He continued smiling. "Alright. Here," he said, picking up his bag and sticking his hand inside. He twisted something, and an odd noise, similar to a person sucking in air, came from it. He withdrew his hand, coins in hand, before setting three sun-colored coins down. "I hope to see you again, Miss ...?"

Amelia’s eyes widened for a moment as she saw the generous reward from the man, realizing that it was quite a lot more than she actually deserved. Heck, it was about the average amount she made a day, none the less a reading. On more common times she’d probably take it all and not give it a second thought. However guilt wasn’t an emotion Amelia had lost completely and she wouldn’t feel right to take the coins from the man she didn’t even try to seduce and the reading was rushed. ”thank you…but” she began, taking one coin and dropping it in her purse, only to pull out 5 silvers and place them next to the 2 golden mizas she didn’t touch ”this would be a lot more appropriate, if you are this generous though, the Temple would make good use of the coins” she stated while standing up and placing her cards back in her palms, shuffling them casually.

”if you really must know, Amelia…but shh” she chuckled while placing her finger against her lips ”it’s a secret” and with that she wondered off into the small streets and bridges filled with people, looking for new victims.

oocjust when reading I realized I had sent you ‘gm’ instead of ‘sm’, anyway this was fun, but I am leaving for someone else to possibly join. See ya around Ravok

Lores: n/a

Loot: +5 Silver Mizas

You Question My Logic? :
Acarnatia, unfortunately there wasn't anything I could award you as far as experience goes, since all you did was get your fortune read. If either of you have questions or concerns regarding the reward, please feel free to PM me.

Notes: Acarnatia, I noticed you got better at this as the thread went on, but be careful of one liners. Since this is your first thread, it's fine, especially since you improved before the end. But in general, we do encourage 3-5 sentence long paragraphs at minimum.

Amelia, in one of your posts, you wrote that some forms of magic is forbidden in Ravok. Actually, that is not true. While your average Joe might be suspicious of magic, all forms of magic and gnosis are legal in Ravok, so long as you don't use them against Ravok.

Anyway, good job guys. Acarnatia, you seem to be improving just in this thread, so I look forward to seeing what you do in the future. Great job guys, and keep writing!

PS: Acarnatia, I went ahead and gave you your grade since you are only getting lores, but you still need to fix the issues on your CS.

Notice

As per the request of the Founders, threads cannot be graded unless your CS is up to date. This means you need to add threads to your thread list when you make new threads, keep your skills up to date, ledger, living expenses, ect. If you aren't up to date, you'll get a PM from me before i grade your thread. If you are up to date, disregard this notice.
