Promises Kept

Postby Hadrian on December 20th, 2012, 1:49 pm

10th Winter, 512 A.V.

As soon as the ship docked in Sunberth and Hadrian could get away, he did. He walked through the streets where only last season he had caused an uproar with illusions and elemental magics. His travels took him to a familiar inn in a familiar part of town, and due to the time of day, the common rooms were busy, which distracted innkeeper and his wife, so the young enchanter ascended the stairs on his own and knocked on the door of the room he had rented for the young amnesiac.

"Kasai," he called through the door. "It is I, Hadrian. I have returned. Please, if you are still here, open the door."

As simple as that, he kept his promise. He could only hope that Kasai had made wise use of the coin Hadrian had left with the innkeeper and his wife to cover his expenses for an indeterminate amount of time.

"Kasai?"

Gods willing, all would be well.

Promises Kept

He was in his room. He was always in his room. Ever since Hadrian had left he had sat at the window in the room most of the time, staring out at everyone coming and going, waiting for him to keep his promise. Oh he left the room of course, but rarely. He only left to get food and other necessities. He hadn't bothered to try to make friends, he hadn't bothered looking for work. He knew he was leaving and there was no point in getting a job just to quit it. So he stayed in the room alone, bored. But that day was different. He had just looked out the window when he saw what he had wanted to see most. Hadrian.

But no, it was probably just his imagination. Hadrian wasn't back. He was just getting his hopes up for the thousandth time. He looked around the room with a sigh. If hadrian really was coming back then he would need to clean his room. The blankets were everywhere, his vest was laying on the floor. His silk pants were tossed onto the table. He was lucky he didn't have much stuff, otherwise the room would be a lot worse.

Thats when he heard the knock. It was Hadrian had come back. It was him. But he wasn't dressed. He was just in the underwear Hadrian had bought him. "Uh, one moment Hadrian!" Oh but he was excited. He had kept his promise. He had come back for him. "I uh need to get dressed!" he'd call through the door.

As he rushed around the room, pulling on his silk pants he would hop over to where his vest was and slip it on. This was important, he had to look nice for Hadrians return. Had to make sure Hadrian still liked him. As he finished dressing he'd look in the mirror. He was clean but his hair was a mess. It had grown to cover his eye's during the time, he hadn't cut it. But he couldn't fix it now Hadrian was here!

Turning around he would rush to the door and open it carefully, trying to be as graceful as he can. "Hadrian, so good to see you again!" As he says that he would leap forward, wrapping his arms around Hadrians neck and hugging him. "I missed you!"

Promises Kept

Hadrian chuckled quietly on the other side of the door, relieved above all that Kasai was there and had taken his advice to heart. The enchanter could wait a few minutes for whatever preparations he needed to make. The sounds emanating from the room were frantic, but the door opened so carefully, and there was the boy, much the same as he had been left, though shaggier and better fed.

The enthusiasm was unchanged, too, and so Hadrian was hugging the boy, who rarely hugged people. But taking in children had changed him, he supposed.

"I missed you too, Kasai," he said, and lifted the boy off his feet just enough to walk him back into the room and close the door behind him.

"How soon can you be ready to go? I'm guessing if you're still here, you haven't remembered anything. Our ship just arrived, and so here I am, but I'm anxious to get back to Zeltiva where it's safe. Aren't you?"

He laughed and held onto Hadrian as he was carried into the room. Hadrian was just as amazing looking as he remembered, and he loved it. How soon could he be ready? He would be willing to leave right then as long as Hadrian was with him. But practically, it would take a few minutes to get the rest of his clothes from the room. Hadrian had made sure he had more than just the awesome looking clothes he had on, and it'd be rude of him to forget them. "Um, i can be ready in ten minutes if you can find me something to put all the clothes you got me in. I was just leaving then on the floor or bed."

As he said that he would look around at the warm clothes laying around he had been supplied. Perhaps he should have taken care of that, but it just hadn't seemed that important. "But um, no i haven't remembered anything. And um, Yea. I want to go soon. Is there going to be other people I can talk to and not be afraid of there in Zeltiva?"

As he speaks he'd turn around and start moving around the room, gathering up the loose articles of clothing laying around.

"Oh, I should've thought of that." He frowned at his own lapse, one arm still around Kasai's waist to stabilize him in his antics. "You probably ought to layer all your clothes on. It's winter now, so I'll lend you my cloak, too. Adrasteios can carry the both of us, so I suppose that will keep you warm enough as we travel. Do you have anything else that needs to be carried? I can put them in my saddlebags."

He watched Kasai gather his meager collection of belongings, still more relieved than anything else to see him alive and well. The events on Sahova had taken much longer than he anticipated.

"I'm not sure yet how many people might be traveling with us, but I can confirm that my associate Trente will be with us, as well as his son, Matilis, who is younger than you." He wasn't sure if Matilis would join Hadrian at the orphanage when they returned. Trente didn't seem keen on the idea of playing single father to the son he hadn't known existed until last season, but that was Trente's business and didn't bear discussion here.

"You can talk to them along the way, and in Zeltiva, the Farson Home has several adult caretakers, and other children. Most will be younger than you, but that just means they will look up to you and adore you."

Promises Kept

He'd shake his head as he moves around the room quickly, picking up the few things he owned. It really was a meager collection, only that of what he had been wearing before he met Hadrian, and the clothes he had been bought. But it was his, and he didn't want to leave anything behind. He would reach up and touch the pendant around his neck, making sure that it was still there. It was one of the reasons he hadn't left the room much, he didn't want to risk it being stolen. "No, just this stuff. I dont really have much."

As he picks up the woolen clothes he'd look at the shirt, then down at himself and his bare stomach. "Ugh, I look better without it, but it really is cold." With a sigh, he'd take the vest off and then put the shirt on, putting the vest on over it. "Who's Adra...Adra-stos? Is that a slave of yours?" He'd say the last with a frown. While he knew it existed, after all he had to dodge some slavers during his time on the streets, he disapproved of it in every way. Nothing good came from the practice, and if Hadrian was a slave owner he may be taking him to be another one of his slaves.

"And, how do you know this kid is younger than me? I mean...I dont even know how old I am." He'd turn around, holding the couple articles of clothing he wasn't wearing, in a ball in his arms. Walking back to Hadrian he'd tilt his head looking up at him.

At the mention of the kids adoring him he'd blush and look away, mumbling quietly under his breath "I'd settle for just a friend."

"It's better that way," he mused aloud. "Possessions tend to weigh a man down more than anything."

He didn't understand why Kasai was so concerned with his appearance, really. If he wanted to show skin for the sake of showing skin, the people outside would likely take him for a butt-boy, whether a slave or for whatever wages he could garner for plying his trade on the streets. But Hadrian knew he thought differently from most people, so he didn't say anything about it. Kasai was at least layering on the clothes, which would keep him warm.

"Adrasteios is a foul-tempered horse I bought some time ago. I'm not the best rider, but..." he could hypnotize the beast to be docile if he had to, "well, I need to get around somehow. While I don't know your birthday, I can see that you are an adolescent. Matilis is still a boy. I suppose anything is possible, but I would hazard to guess that you are his elder. Of course, his memory stretches back farther, so that might even you out in the end."

Hadrian held open his satchel for Kasai's few remaining articles of clothing. He would pack them with his own things while they traveled, and give Kasai his spare cloak too. If only he had it now, the walk to the horses wouldn't be such a cold one.

"Well, if you are kind to them, I am sure they will be your friends. We can start in on your memories in Zeltiva. It's safer there."
