Concerning the requirements for the Icewatch

Where does a Vantha go to learn the random personal magics admitted?

I'm thinking of going through a few and trying to get a feel for what would suit Miria. (Is moderation needed?)

Hey Miria! I'm going to jump in and answer based on what I think I've read from the forums, somewhere.

As far as I know, you can learn magic on your own through a book, an npc, or through another player who knows the specifics of that magic. Moderation is not required, but I don't think you're going to learn much unless you're being taught by an expert, whether it's an npc or a pc. And there are no npcs in Avanthal who have knowledge of magics that are seen as dangerous or destructive, so no voiding there. Anyone seen practicing these dangerous magics will be punished by the Icewatch. Also, I'm taking back what I said about reimancy in my earlier post, since I just realized it usually goes hand in hand with Ice Reaving after all.

Isn't there also certain magics that require an expert or higher to jump start the process? Like webbing and projection?

Yes, I did say that one cannot learn much unless they are taught by an expert. I was actually talking about the learning process of personal magics in general, gaining the lores and the experience as a whole. But based on what was written on the wiki, you are right about webbing and projection needing an expert to learn those magics. Not that webbing is even found in Avanthal, nor projection common within the mages of the city.

But I just want to repeat what I've said earlier for Miria. I believe you don't need moderation for learning magic, but it's better that one run it by the Storyteller of the domain they are in first, especially when using npcs that are expert in those skills. It's just not possible for such few Storytellers to moderate every single magic initiation thread that the players want, hence allowing for some self-moderation in those kind of threads.

So I'm back(finally) and I'd really like Sheva to have a IC conversation with one of Avanthal's polar bear kelvics, but I don't think there are any polar bear kelvic PCs. Am I right in assuming that?
