Keeping yourself occupied

"Are you interested in anything in particular?"

She did not answer straight away, the Kelvic was too intent in looking. Wyatti explored, her eyes taking in all, taking every moment to look at everything individually. It was better to look and see all before deciding. She wandered after Kenneric who was looking at the more hobby orientated area, her eyes drifting over colours, paints, brushes, small tools and instruments. Her eyes scanned them, before she turned her attention to supplies and other general goods. But every time her attention returned to that of weapons. She hovered over the case for a moment, her cat like eyes staring at the keen sword edge. Like all children her attention was first drawn to the largest of them all. But quickly the realisation of weight and size dissuaded her. After a while though she noticed the short sword she spotted whilst she looked in. She pointed at it.

"That... umm... please."
The shop clerk gave a perplexed look "Perhaps miss would prefer something... Smaller?"
"No... uh... that... how much?"
"It is ten gold mizas miss. But perhaps miss would prefer...?"

Wyatti cocked her head to one side, she had already made up her mind, she wanted to see the blade more closely before deciding for sure.

Keeping yourself occupied

Kenneric had seen Wyatti approaching, and had watched carefully as the girl first dismissed the more mundane items and then became attracted to the weapons. His gaze did not move from her as she examined a few of the weapons carefully, her child’s face more serious than one her age should be. When she asked the clerk to hold one of the blades he stepped forward.

“Ah, a swords woman, are you? Myself, I prefer a more… eloquent approach, not one for waving metal around. But I’ve heard it is good exercise.” He watched as the clerk took the sword down and unsheathed it carefully, handing it over hilt first to Wyatti.

What would bring a girl to have such a fondness for weapons. All the little girls he remembered were more concerned with horses or sewing. But such old memories were wind to the rock of the present. And he had left the gentle cities too. He had been set against the harshness of the wild, luckily with Lowych to protect him. Perhaps this girl had not had someone like his master? Perhaps she protected herself. He felt a small pang of concern for her, or perhaps it was just nostalgia. Either way, she brought to the surface old memories.

He wondered vaguely what her story was. He always wondered such things about the people he saw. Where they came from, what were their goals? What was her dream, and her nightmares? “A fine blade, no doubt. Though I admit I am no expert.” He glanced around for Miles, sure the thief was more versed in the art of slicing people open than he was. His method was much more obscure…

Keeping yourself occupied

"Hm." Miles chose to browse over the daggers, he had a few in his time, but as of now, found himself defenceless. It was a must if he was to embark on the adventures he dreamed of during his waking hours- to protect oneself is easily the most important thing: Miles hoped the girl's fascination with the larger weapon led to some sort of competency, otherwise she would invite trouble she could not handle.

"If you have the money, then pay the man and claim your property. Just know that a weapon is a responsibility: one that should never be taken lightly." He nodded toward the sword. "That is made to kill men- it serves no other real purpose- it defends, it attacks, but it was forged to kill. As long as you carry it, know that. There are those in this world that will believe because you carry it, you know how and will not hesitate to use it." Miles stepped back and assessed the girl once more. Perhaps he had missed something in looking at her the first time. He turned his attention back to the shopkeeper and pulled out a few GMs. "I'll have a dagger when she makes her purchase. Nothing fancy, something sturdy. I'll wait, good man take your time."

When Miles saw Kenneric return, he smirked- swordsmanship is in itself graceful- it was a dance, deadly and beautiful, something that Miles could not quite understand. He wondered just how far Kenneric had gone in his "other" pursuits once he heard the man speak. "Trust your feelings, Wyatti- does the blade feel right to you?" Miles understood that the weight, sharpness, and dressings of the blade could be changed by a blacksmith if needed be, but her impression, her feeling when she gripped the blade, could not. He watched her eyes as she went to touch it, searching her gaze for any joy or anticipation in it- murder had been on the streets and Miles was not above searching in strange places for bloodlust.

Keeping yourself occupied

Postby Wyatti on January 4th, 2013, 1:01 pm

Wyatti felt the weight of the short sword in her hands. At this moment in time she could easily grasp the hilt with two hands, but in time she would grow and the weapon would be easy to use with a single hand. She listened to Miles' words carefully, and although at first she did not understand what he initially said, the meaning behind his words quickly sunk in. It was a weapon, a tool used to defend and to kill. She gave a small frown, a deep understanding seeping in. A tool was an extension of ones self, and this tool Wyatti decided was one she would rather use to protect one than to go out and destroy.

"Trust your feelings, Wyatti- does the blade feel right to you?"
Right? What is right though?

The Kelvic drew in a deep breath, eyes narrowed as she focused herself. The weight felt good in her hands, the grip something she could hold onto, it seemed as if it was already an extension of herself, a piece that fitted into her own puzzle. Yes. It was perfect.

"I like it," she spoke clearly and nodded to the clerk before turning her attention to Miles "Thank you."

It was more a thanks to his guiding words, if it was not for them she would most likely still be deciding. It helped in giving her a small nudge in the right direction, she just hoped now that it would be used in the intention she wished. The short sword was sheathed, and kept to one side as the girl once more took long careful steps around the shop, seeking perhaps something to balance out the nature of the weapon. But then she thought of things of other nature, of what she would need if she was to truly go and adventure. For the meanwhile though, she only picked up a few additional items; a wooden flute and a set of ivory dice being among them. Wyatti paid the clerk, and quickly packed away her new belongings into her rucksack. She gave a smile again to the two men as she attached the linked the sword scabbard up to her.
