shieldbash 17 winter 512 Antinous Training Grounds Today, Kuza had brought with her to the training grounds only her light armour, her shield, and a metal cored practice gladius, the metal providing weight to make it feel like the real thing. She had been planning to spar and practice her skills, and a solo, unranked knight attacking a dummy seemed like the right person to try. She walked over to him and waited for him to finish before proposing. "Want to spar?" She held up her practice gladius and shield, compared to his steel shortsword. The knight grabbed a practice shortsword, following her to the grove of trees to simulate forest. "We can spar here today, and wherever you want to spar tomorrow?" "Alright." Kuza knew he was more adept at his shortsword than she was at gladius, but she didn't care.

He swung his sword towards her and she blocked it with her shield, dancing on her feet and attempting to not stand still. Kuza was faster, if only by grace of her Prowess mark. She barely used the gladius at first, dancing around and blocking the sword with her shield. She ran around a tree and he followed, before she turned around and shield-bashed him in the the chest. He retaliated by swinging his sword above and attempting to bring it down over her head, to which Kuza responded by dropping to her knee and raising her shield above her head, attempting to jab him in the stomach. She was too slow, though, because she barely grazed his stomach with the practice gladius before he twisted out of the way, bringing his sword to hit her unguarded side as she stood up. That's going to leave a bruise, Kuza thought while she used her shield to hit him in the arm, bringing her to her first encounter with his shield as it slammed into hers, blocking the hit to his arm. She jumped over a fallen log and he followed, almost tripping over it but effectively jabbing her in the stomach. She lifted her shield to block his next blow, jabbing him in the armpit with her gladius as he raised his arms to do a quick slice with his shortsword. He called time and they stopped sparring for the moment as they caught their breath. Humans didn't seem as resilient as Myrians, but he more than made up for it with his skill. "5 chimes and we start again, okay?" "Okay."

All too soon, 5 chimes were up, and they were at it again with renewed vigour. Kuza began to use her surroundings - the tree grove - to her benefit, skipping around boulders and slipping through trees. The other knight also had wit, though, and he tricked her, suddenly appearing behind her as she dashed around a tree. He bashed his shield into the back of her head and she spun around, bringing her shield around to block his next slash with his shortsword. Kuza dropped to her knees and jabbed him in the leg, accidentally parrying his retaliation slash with her gladius. She rolled away from him and stood up as quickly as she could, but not quick enough, as he jabbed her in the side. She brought up her shield too late and he jabbed her now unguarded lower half as she attempted to shieldbash him. Kuza only ended up hitting his shield, and her attempt to jab him with her gladius was also blocked. For a final move, Kuza quickly dropped to the ground and blocked her head with her shield, stabbing him in the back of the knee. That seemed to signal to both of them that the sparring was done. It seemed to her that he had won with his superior skill, but it didn't matter to her. She was still practising. "Good fight." "Yeah. So, tomorrow?" "Yeah." -fin-
