Winter 43rd, 512AV

Jesslyn scrambled around her home. "Where did I put that stupid canvas,"she grumbled, "I know I set it around here some where." Jesslyn picked up a blank canvas and felt around the edges. Not finding the right nicks she set it down and continued to go through them.

"Ah HA!" She exclaimed pulling out a black canvas with an x cut into the frame, "Found you! Thought you get away from me like that." Turning around Jesslyn went to walk in the direction of her table only to trip. "Frost!" she exclaimed when she landed on her stomach. Gently pushing herself to her knees she felt for what she had tripped over. Picking up a paint brush she glared, "This place can't be that messy."

Jesslyn couldn't see but her place was a mess. From the area she just came from was boxes of unpainted canvases, unopened jars of paint, open jars of paint, charcoal spread in the bottom of a broken vase, paint brushes in random areas and on the floor, and worst of all some of her paint was actually dried on the floor. Her bedroom had clothes thrown about, the bed was not made, and some of her finished art work at against her wall. Surprisingly her open living space was the neatest. Though some of her art work lay unfinished against the wall.

Jesslyn kept the paint brush with a shrug and began to stand up with her black canvas again, "Alrighty. Let's get you some skin!" Jesslyn walked to her table and set the canvas down. Placing the paintbrush on it she walked cautiously back to her supplies. "Okay, so I need white, purple, gold, and red...." Jesslyn paused as she went to the different boxes and felt for the colors, "On second though, not red. Baby blue." Rereading over the titles to make sure she had the right ones she turned back to the table.

Just as she reached the table Jesslyn slipped again. This time falling on her back, "Why? Just frosting why? I did my warm ups!" Huffing Jesslyn stood up angrily. For being blind she had really good balance, so what was up with her today. Placing down her supplies Jesslyn reached for the brush on the canvas. Only to find it not there. Jesslyn's eyebrows furrowed in frustration, "You have to me kidding me." After a moment of thought Jesslyn sighed. "Sylvia, get your butt out of where ever you are dying with laughter."

Giggling came from behind her.

The giggling continued until Jesslyn could make out the shape of a small woman, "Why do you do this to me?"Jesslyn pouted. Sylvia moved forward and placed a kiss on Jesslyn's cheek before pulling her into a hug, "Because it's fun."
Jesslyn returned the hug but continued to pout, "That's bullying. I don't think we can be friends anymore."

Sylvia pulled back with a laugh," Jess, you would be lost with out me." Sylvia walked around Jesslyn, Jesslyn turned with her bestfriend and 'watched' as Sylvia walked around looking at her artwork that lay all around. "How do you manage not do fall and hurt your self Jess?" Jesslyn simply shrugged. Turning back to where the table should be she paused, "Sylvia, I need that brush." Jesslyn was smacked with an object in the arm and then it clobbered to the ground.

There was giggling and Jesslyn sighed. Dropping to her knees she searched for the brush. "Jess, you are never going to find it if you search over there." Jesslyn sighed and began to turn to search the other side before she heard Sylvia walk closer, "Here let.." Jesslyn bit out a yell, "No!" The air was tense and Jesslyn didn't move from her position. Sylvia straightened up and sighed, "Jess baby. Don't do this to yourself." Sylvia pleaded.

" I have to learn to do things on my own Sylvia. I can't always rely on someone. And you should be having babies, not taking care of me. You have a husband who loves you so much Sylvia." Jesslyn whispered. She could feel the tears coming to the surface. She heard Sylvia before she felt her, Sylvia dropped to the ground with her crawling friend and attacked her in a hug, "Jesslyn. No matter what even Morwen thinks or says, I will always have time for you. I don't have to have babies now and I can take care of you as much as I want. He understands and accepts how much you mean to me and me to you. He finds it touching..." Sylvia paused before giggling and whispering, "Don't tell him I told you but he's jealous of your artwork. He can't believe someone blind can do better than him."

Jesslyn hiccuped a sobbed giggle as she clutched her friend, "Really? He thinks so?" Sylvia only nodded. Sylvia clutched Jesslyn before puling back and whipping away her nonegsestant tears to make her feel better, that maybe Jesslyn could actually cry. Though she knew she couldn't shed a tear. "Come now, you were going to paint weren't you?" Jesslyn hiccuped and nodded. Being pulled to her feet she felt Sylvia open her hand and place something in it. Feeling it she felt it was the paint brush. Choking again she clutched it,"I'm sorry Syl." Sylvia only kissed her forehead and turned her to the canvas.

When Jesslyn felt Sylvia head for the door she stopped her, "Stay? Please?" Jesslyn couldn't see her friend but she could feel the smile radiate to her face. "I can't leave my Lovely Icemaiden alone. She's a purple eyed beauty. One of a kind!" Sylvia preached."No, what I'm going to do is clean this place up. You work." Jesslyn nodded before turning to her canvas.

Sylvia started to hum a traditional Vantha song and Jesslyn soon found herself joining in.

Jesslyn wanted to smile at her friend as she came over. But if she did she would loose focus. And right now she was doing a solo on the humming part because Sylvia decided to stop.

"Okay, I must get to the bottom of this." Sylvia declared. Jesslyn rose an eyebrow. Sylvia must have seen it or known what Jesslyn was doing as she continued, "How do you get a shoe stuck under your hearth?" Her eye's couldn't form a look but Jesslyn's mouth frowned.

While Jesslyn loved Sylvia coming over and cleaning up the house and giving her company she didn't like the constant talk when she was working. Continuing to hum Jesslyn shrugged.

"No Missy. There is no 'shrugging' off an answer. How do you manage daily life?" Sylvia pressed a finger into the side of Jesslyn and sent Jesslyn into a fit of laughter. Her steady hand now flicking off the canvas and onto the table. Jesslyn had lost the flow and now would never finish the painting. Sighing Jesslyn set down the brush and turned to Sylvia.

"Oops." Sylvia giggled. Jesslyn frowned and jabbed a finger in Sylvia's vibrating form. Sylvia simply dropped to the ground in a heap of laughter. Jesslyn rolled her head in the manner one rolls their eyes and turned back to the canvas. It would take a little time to dry as Jesslyn had been using the thicker paints but the sides weren't painted on and it would be simple for her to put her mark. Jesslyn carefully searched for her knife and just as her hand landed on the hilt she was tackled.

"Sylvia! I had a sharp object in my..." Jesslyn was cut off by a hand on her mouth. Sylvia was hushing her with a quiet shushing tone that was panicked. Jesslyn's heart skipped a few beats as she panicked herself. "Jesslyn... I need you to be real quite okay?"

Jesslyn simply nodded her head. Sylvia slowly took her hand from her friends mouth before crawling beside on the floor, "Now listen to me Jesslyn. Listen real closely. I want you to crawl to your bunk and get under it. What ever you do don't get out from under it, okay?" Jesslyn shook her head and grabbed her hand. Tugging lightly Jesslyn attempted to get Sylvia to come with her.

"I'm going to be real quick okay? I'll be back... promise." Jesslyn wanted to cry. She had heard of the rumors and didn't want to believe in them... besides she hated the thoughts of them anyway. Jesslyn refused to let go of her friend. Sylvia moved and and kissed Jesslyn forehead, "Come now, my little Icemaiden. If it makes you feel any better you can hold my heirloom."

Jesslyn shook her head profusely. 'No, no, no, no,no. Sylvia have some sense. Just because some idiots are next door yelling at them to give them all their valuables doesn't mean you go out there!' Jesslyn wanted to scream but she knew that would do the opposite of making the robbers think no one was home.

Sylvia ignored her friends refusal and took her hands back to unclasp her necklace. Jesslyn had never seen it but she had felt it many times. To her hands it was a smooth surface with patterns carved out. Sylvia had told her it was the face of a wolf. A wolf that had helped Sylvia's great great great grandfather make it back to his Hold form the wilds. It was a heirloom that had actual meaning. Sylvia had told her the story behind it several times. And it always ended with, 'Jesslyn. We live in a dangerous world with danger at every corner. But we can't live in fear of everything or else we would never get home.'

Jesslyn was brought out of her thoughts when she felt the warm wood lay on her chest. Jesslyn whimpered and Sylvia kissed her forehead again, "I'll be back Jess. Just go do what I asked." Jesslyn didn't fight anymore. She knew Sylvia would only kick her but if she did. Instead she squeezed Sylvia in a hug before going to the table. Feeling for the wall behind it she followed it until she was at her bed.

Jesslyn slowly crawled under and let out a whimper when she heard Sylvia get up and slowly walk to the door. Jesslyn couldn't help but close her already blind eyes in fright. She didn't know what Sylvia had planned but Jesslyn didn't like it. Jesslyn clutched Sylvia's necklace that hung around her neck as she heard the door open slowly.

Jesslyn heard a scream and began to sob a tear-less cry. Jesslyn cursed her body when she couldn't produce the tears. She heard the door slam close and a scuttle outside. But Jesslyn felt numb, curling up in a fetal petition began humming the song her and Sylvia had been humming not all too long ago. Her shoulder racked and her body vibrated with sorrow.

Jesslyn didn't know how long she laid there but when she moved again it was because someone was shaking her, "Jesslyn."

"Jesslyn, come on get out from under there." Jesslyn slowly opened her eyes to be met with darkness. Jesslyn slowly came to to realize that her mother was crouched in front her her bed nudging Jesslyn awake.

For a few seconds Jesslyn was confused as to why she was under her bed but then she remembered. Jesslyn shot out from under the bed and tackled her mother, "Momma. Sylvia..." Jesslyn sobbed dry tears as her mother rubbed her back and made soothing sounds.

"She's fine honey. Minor wounds. Just a little scratch." Though Jesslyn's mother was only trying to make her feel better her words only made it worse. "Now Jesslyn. Is that anyway to act? My little Jess can't be crying when her friend is waiting to see her." A voice came from near the door.

Jesslyn identified the voice as her father and let out a strangled cry, "Papa..." Jesslyn listened as footsteps came close before she could see a vague outline of her Papa. He crouched down and enveloped her in a hug, "We can go see her in the morning."

Jesslyn nodded her head and sighed. "But for now your coming home. I don't want you here by yourself right now." Jesslyn wanted to argue that she could be by herself and not get hurt but she felt too much like a little kid who just had their favorite toy taken away to struggle.

"Come now. Honey grab her things." Jesslyn clutched to her Papa as her Momma went on a search. Jesslyn was being cradled and hummed to when her mother came back into visual with items in her hands. "Up you go."

Jesslyn was numb as her mother dressed her like she did when Jesslyn was seven. Jesslyn found a set of arms wrapped around her waist as she was led outside. "You know.... Sylvia is probably not going to take her necklace back. Her husband is so bent out of shape that he painted the biggest wall of their home." Jesslyn let out a small laugh as she could picture him running around with his hand stuck in his colored hair.

"We'll get you set up in your old bed and then in the morning you can go see her." Jesslyn simply nodded. Jesslyn's hands found the necklace and she clutched it with all her might hoping that what her Momma and Papa had said was true and that Sylvia was only a little injured. But some how she knew they were wrong, some how Jesslyn knew Sylvia was in trouble.

Jesslyn didn't state her thoughts but simply walked in the arms of her Parents as she went to the Whitevine Hold. Her old home which held so many memory's but the memory's of the thoughts and words of others still haunt her. 'Oh to the poor blind who seek acknowledgement but will never get it.' Jesslyn thought bitterly.

Notes: There wasn’t a lot of experience I could award for this thread since it was mostly about Jesslyn’s thoughts of the events happening around her. However it was still a good thread and offered a lot of interesting insight into Jesslyn. Being blind in Mizahar is a very difficult thing as it is really dangerous but I think you’ve done a good job so far keeping things realistic. I hope to discover the fate of Syliva in a future thread. :)
