32nd Day, Winter of 512 A.V. Crash? Was that the sound? No.. It was more of an aggresive 'ting'. Well, that was the literary excellence of Telk today as he mused on the noise metal makes when hit by a hammer at the forge. Wind-Reach wasn't reknowned for Blacksmithing in the slightest, nor was it reknowned for its epic forges which created masterpieces, but it got by. The Smiths here created what the civilization needed to survive and some extra just in case, despite this, it was still an art, it was still something to be respected. Weaponsmiths and Armorers created some fine pieces of weaponry for the Endals to use, and one or two expert artisans in the city were able to craft custom armour with intricate designs or carvings on them. There weren't many Blacksmiths around during Winter, it was hard to shape Iron and use forges while it was so cold outside, some still worked through Winter however, crafting for their Endal Masters or for the general populace, Telk had hung around with them a couple of times and they knew him by name, but they didn't know him as a friend, he was just an observer of their art. Telk just happened to be doing it again today, one Blacksmith in particular, he was crafting a sword for a wealthy benefactor who lived within the city, it was a fine blade, single-edged, with a gem encrusted hilt and a round pommel. It's cross-guard was also quite an intricate sight, curved and very elegant, almost Rapier-like in style, but still a long-sword. The Scabbard was being crafted by the Blacksmiths apprentice nearby, another fine piece of work, intricately carved in were the mans house crests, this was a sword you would probably see on somebodys wall in a hundred years. Watching. That's all Telk could do sadly, he had neither the skill nor the endorsement to use a forge and try create a sword, or something similar. He'd love to have a go, being able to craft his own sword then use it in combat would be exhilarating, he would have a much closer bond to his sword then. Without the money to pay for a specially crafted unique blade however, he could only resign to watching the Smiths work. With a deep long sigh. |
