Marcus was indeed content to let "Nolan" ramble for a while. The agent considered himself an intelligent man about many things, but in the field of poisons he deferred to the other man's superior knowledge. Marcus knew only what he had learned working so far, which as a lot more than he knew before he started working at Ino Vations. He watched with mild curiosity as the man worked. Knowing about poison might prove useful in the future, and it would be good to pick up a thing or too while he was undercover. Still, his mind wandered from time to time. Marcus wondered what the things he had seen in the ledger meant. Was he really working side by side with a traitor? Or was it something else? The man did sell poison, afterall, it only made sense that he would want to cover his tracks from time to time. But Marcus wouldn't be there if the Black Sun didn't suspect there was something for him to find. Marcus just had to be patient and wait for his "employer" to slip up. Sometimes Marcus wondered if it would have been easier just to pay Inoadar off. Eventually the work was finished, and Inoadar mentioned something about procuring a cart. Marcus didn't like the idea of leaving Ravok to go explore a swamp, and hoped he would not be asked to come along. Besides, it would likely take quite some time for him to return. The trip to the shore alone could take a long as four bells. That would allow plenty of time for the soldier to return and investigate the ledger. Although.. it occurred to Marcus that if he did go with Parnell to the swamp, it would give him an alibi in the case that he noticed the break in upon his return. "Did you need me to come with you for that," he asked, "or should I just stay here?" |
