There was a small theory that Leas had that could possibly explain Nai'a's unique color. But it was a long shot. "Perhaps you're albino." It was the only thing she knew of that could be the answer. Kelvics looked just like their animal counterparts, and bottle nosed dolphins weren't pink in the wild. She'd never seen an albino one, so perhaps that's what they looked like. But it wasn't like Leas could conduct an experiment or examination. An examination! She gasped loudly before she could catch herself, fluttering her hands wildly in excitement. "Have you ever thought of going to the university and asking them to try and figure it out? Aren't they supposed to be smart? Maybe they could help." What she would give to be able to study there. All that knowledge. Her chest ached just thinking about the possibility. Maybe someday soon. Zeltiva's university was the only place she could think of that could possible hold some answer to Nai'a's question. Kelvics were a fascinating race. Human and animal all in one, and forged through powerful magic. Like her pink haired companion said, a horse could have a mouse, and a mouse could have a giraffe. But it seemed she herself was a mystery to this woman as well. Leas was never one to talk about herself, but it was a simple question. Not a lot of people realized that she was merely a cross between human and Akvatari. A mixed-blood. Simple as that. "My mother is human, and my father is Akvatari." An echo of the words in her mind. For some reason, she felt like going into greater detail. It was a rare sight when her mouth would run away with itself, but Leas felt Nai'a was a kindred spirit. "Because of that, I don't have wings like my father, and my bones aren't hollow. I'm more or less stuck in the ocean." That familiar ache returned to her chest, tightening like a fist around her heart. She loved the sea beyond words, but she wanted so badly to lie in the forest and walk among trees and other people on two feet, head held high. Leas wanted to run and jump and roll and skip. She wanted to stub a toe and wear shoes. Absently, she ran her fingers down her lap, feeling the sleek fur of her tail. What would it be like if this was legs, and skin instead of fur? She couldn't even imagine it. At least she had the upper hand in the water, even if she was pretty useless on dry land. |
